Big Canyon Farm – Near Harbin Hot Springs

Big Canyon Farmhouse is an authentic, lovely, classically rustic craftsman home with gardens, sharing 3+ acres in pristine South Lake County wine country. We are surrounded by giant oaks, picturesque vineyards and expansive valley and mountain views. We are just 2.5 miles to Harbin Hot Springs! That puts us 18 miles (about 30 mins) due north of Calistoga, over Mt Saint Helena in the fabulous Callayomi Valley.

Big Canyon Farm is the perfect setting for a memorable retreat. The house includes 3 separate bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. Both lower floor bedrooms have full size beds, cozy bedding, and share a full bathroom across the hall. The upstairs master has a queen bed plus sitting area, a dressing room and full bath with clawfoot tub. The upper floor resembles a full suite, to include the home theater lounge in the next room.

Downstairs, the open kitchen, living and dining rooms create an inspired group gathering space, with easy access to the giant covered porch/ outdoor lounge. The theater lounge upstairs includes a huge flatscreen tv, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and YouTube TV. We have WI-FI and a high quality Bluetooth whole house sound system. The kitchen is very well appointed with the dishware and modern appliances for entertaining and gourmet cooking.

While it feels like we are miles into the country, our wonderfully stocked and family owned grocery store (including plenty of organics) is just over a mile away. Even a bit closer is the community swimming pool and tennis court. If you feel like going back in time to a simpler place, this is your spot!

If you’re into Mountain Biking, you’ll find plenty of joy riding at Boggs Mountain, and also at Six Sigma Ranch. Local Beaver Creek Organic and Biodynamic Winery is a favorite, as is Shedhorn’s tasting room downtown. Golf options include nearby Hidden Valley Lake (with driving range) and Adams Springs on Cobb MT. This is vacation paradise!

A couple interesting details about the house:

The wide plank floors, stairs and much of the finish/ trim work throughout the house are from local, fire salvage Douglas Fir. In winter, you can enjoy the local fire salvaged black walnut and tiled wood burning fireplace, which is as authentic and heart warming as can be.

Beautiful, comfortable and calm

We loved our second stay. The cozy living room and curated decor are inviting. The upstairs bedroom suite is lovely. The landscaped property overlooks a vineyard and valley, and is viewed perfectly from the front porch in the afternoon. Very nice.

Magical Farm House

We were so impressed with this beautiful farm house. The porch was just perfect for relaxing. My grand daughters ages 6and 8 loved the trampoline and horses. So great- we didn’t use the TV the whole time - just family time and exploring the little towns around.

Beautiful house and property

The house is very clean and cute with a big kitchen to cook and gather. There is a sweet little game room upstairs where we were able to have a movie night one night. The beds are very comfortable with wonderful linens and great views from every window. Sitting outside on the porch and lawn was the highlight of the trip to take in the scenery. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

Porch Potatoes!

We could not have been more pleased with our stay at the Big Canyon Farmhouse! The porch was our favorite place! Morning coffee, evening wine, meals...it all happened on the porch! The bedrooms were cozy and well arranged; the bathrooms were very nicely decorated and functional for our family. The kitchen was well-appointed with plenty of dishes, silverware, appliances, etc. The location of the farmhouse is very convenient! Only 1.5 miles to a fabulous little grocery store (Hardester's) with all the grocery supplies you could want. The one thing to be aware of is, if you plan to go into the Napa Valley or even over to Calistoga, you need to be okay with a few minutes of winding road -- the St. Helena Pass. We tried Butts Lane, but it was also a long, curving drive--the Pass turned out to be better because the winding part is over quicker. If you want to relax, cook, hang out with family/friends, this is the place for you!! Loved it!!

Lovely farmhouse stay

Finally once the pandemic started to ease up a bit we were able to make plans to travel from australia to see my children after 4 years. The six (+ 2 furbabies) of us had a great time, plenty of space to be together or apart. We had everything we needed. Thanks Wade for being so accomodating

Comfortable home, tranquil surroundings.

This home has a comfortable old farmhouse feel with all the modern amenities. It has everything needed for a family to take a break from the busy world and relax in a country setting. The rooms are bright and airy with casual furniture and multiple places to gather as a group. The wrap-around porch is a delightful place to have a meal outside, sit to enjoy the view with others or just hang out and read. We liked being there so much we hardly wanted to leave. It was a bit of a drive on the curvy mountain road into St Helena where we attended a family wedding and events but it was also scenic and our "home" suited us so well that we didn't mind the time in the car.

Family Getaway!

We absolutely LOVED our stay at Big Canyon Farm! Wade was so helpful and the property was even better than we expected. It was extremely kid friendly, the big kids were obsessed with the trampoline and media nook upstairs while the toddler (and dog!) loved watching the birds building nests on the deck and wandering the open space! We brought baby gates for the stairs as we have an adventurous toddler and moved a few things out of reach, but overall it is a perfect stay for families! Looking forward to booking again!

Really REALLY Get Away From It All

This was such an amazing stay. Our host was very communicative and welcoming. The house was so wonderful and our only regret was that we couldn't stay for a whole week :) The children had a wonderful time relaxing in the house. The evenings were filled with cooking and together time as we enjoyed wine and laughter. There was no need for our phones, ipads or computers. We had the greatest time simply enjoying the gorgeous property and each others' company. Coming to Napa / Sonoma, you could choose to stay in the heart of Napa. However, we loved this place because we could enjoy Napa and then leave the wine trail and have the quiet serenity of this wine country house to ourselves. Would absolutely stay here again!

A very special retreat

We just completed a one-week stay at this beautiful home, which is a wonderful place to spend time. The layout is ideal, both for gathering with family (indoors and out) and for spending private time when desired. The home has been totally modernized while retaining vintage charm. All of the furnishings are handsome and comfortable; and the kitchen is very nicely equipped. Wade was a perfect host ... welcoming and always available to answer any questions, while affording us total privacy to enjoy our stay. We are delighted and grateful to have found this listing, and can easily imagine a repeat visit. Thank you!

Great space, great house, great views. There is a lot to like about this place. We enjoyed it for 3 days while attending a family wedding. Absolutely no complaints and I live in the country in Oregon on a similar property. My wife and mother and daughter all loved this place.

The perfect house in the country!

We stayed at this lovely farm house with friends while wine tasting the entire Napa area. The drive is a bit windy, but beautiful, and the location is spectacular. The property and home are spot on with style and comfort. Our favorite was sitting out on the porch at night and enjoying the view with great wine.
