The Old Hearth Inn was a wonderful quaint place to stay. We truly loved the cleanliness, location, and charming atmosphere. We would definitely stay there again.

Great location, great place to stay

The property was conveniently located, clean, and cute. There were things to do on-site, and the laundry facilities, hot tub, and kitchen were convenient.

We really enjoyed our stay! The cottage was quaint, clean, and in a great location. Communication and the check in/check out process was very simple. We also enjoyed sitting by the fire and meeting new people! Thanks for helping make our visit to Maine (from Louisiana) an enjoyable one!

Everything we needed

Served as home base for our Acadia National Park visit. Loved the access to the main house for the larger kitchen space, dining space and the washer dryer area. Met other guests which my daughter and I enjoyed.

Homey feel to main house made the stay!

The little cottage was as described. Nothing fancy, but clean. The 5 stars come from the feeling of hominess provided by the "big House" that all were welcomed to enjoy. We found it quite comfortable and charm abounded.

Acadia Trip

The property is rustic which I knew when I booked it. It reminds me of motels that we stayed at in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The common areas and kitchen and grills were awesome. The property was close enough to Bar Harbor and Acadia to travel back and forth and avoid the overcrowded area of Bar Harbor.

Cottage #9

Check-in was easy. Management was in communication vi email and text days before arrival, making it less stressful. The two bedrooms and bathroom were comfortable and quaint. Perfect for our 2 night stay. Grocery store and restaurant were nearby for any food and utility needs. Thumbs down though about the hot tub. It was not working and was a disappointment to myself and my kids. I would recommend this place to a friend.

Honest review

Trenton, Maine: Open Hearth Inn (Ohana inns, cabin #9). Pros: was definitely the communication. They explain everything you will need for your stay. The price was reasonable and originally booked this location since they accepted pets. The location was between Elsworth and Bar Harbor which was great for us. Cons: The photos showed the cabin had a mini split AC unit. Upon arrival we noticed a window AC unit. When I asked about this I found out the mini split units are not in working order. The rooms are small and noticed a weird smell. The smell came from the newly polyurethaned picnic table just outside the AC unit baking in direct sunlight. This unit is 2 bedrooms. The bathroom shower has great pressure and hot water however the sink drained very slow. One bedroom was fine. The other was very small and had a very high bed that was crooked. The difference from one side to the other was roughly 5”. I asked for a fix. They provided a large wooden plank. This contraption evened out the bed but it did slip out a few times and was not a great fix for safety. I am 5’ tall and I had to climb into the bed as it was very high. The window AC unit was directed right on the bed which is not ideal either. Also wanted to note this property is right on a main road and near a small airplane field. The planes and road are very loud. I wanted to write an honest review so others can plan and decide for themselves. Price and location versus quiet.

Dear future guest. We tried really hard to help Debora have a five star stay but she just didn't seem happy she was here with us at Open Hearth Inn. She's right about the Mini Splits, we are having the electrical service at the property updated and added window units for this summer but unfortunately Debora was very sensitive overall to noise, smell and even the situation with the bed (which isn't slanted 5 inches but has since been given a permanent fix). We have also fixed the slow drain that was reported. The cottages are roughly 70 years old so the rooms are smaller but we feel like the pictures show the rooms and overall cottage size so you know what you are getting yourself into. We hope that you can look past this low review (it stings as we try really hard to please everyone) and check out the other 10/10 reviews we have on VRBO to show that this is not the norm for Cottage 9. We are on the road to Acadia and there is an airport nearby with a few planes that hum by during the day. The good news is that the location gives you a springboard to MDI and Bar Harbor in just a quick jump, but in the summer the road can be busy! Cute clean little cottage. Ear plugs were provided in the room and I think this was for the loud dehumidifier. There was some road noise too as it is directly off the main road. The view was terrible with construction fencing in the front. All that said, the rooms were clean and the bed comfy. Thanks

Horrible Communication/Check in Process

We booked months ago and paid in full. Arrived to no one to check us in. A sign in lobby stated they are now remote and provided a number. No one answered or returned my call. After nearly 25 minutes of saying hello in what felt like a horror movie set, someone finally emerged only to tell us they couldn’t find our booking. After around the 40 min mark of standing around, we received a text from the manager followed by a late email with our booking and instructions. The entire situation was disappointing and stressful for a period of time. We were concerned we wouldn’t have a place to stay. It is poorly ran and there should be other means of contact for people coming in from out of state at different hours.

Homey comfortable stay

Our cabin was rustic, which is what we expected based on the pictures. We were there two nights to attend a wedding. Would have been nice to have more shelving in the bathroom. Homey feel, comfortable property. Felt as though you could enter the house and use the hot tub freely. We were bummed to not meet the owners of the property. It would have been nice to put faces to the email communications. It was great to have a bakery and restaurants within walking distance.
