HISTORIC HOME: Welcome to Captain Kenny's House! Our family built this home in 1925 in Boynton Beach, FL and now it has been in the family for 5 generations! As the owner of this home and great-great granddaughter of the original owner/builder, I am excited to make it available to guests and share the history of our family for the very first time!

OUR HISTORY: Kenneth Lyman, was the grandson of Morris Benson (M.B.) and Mary Lyman, credited with the founding of the town of Lantana, FL in 1921 and who built their historic home in 1889 in that town which is recognized as the 2nd oldest. M.B. Lyman's home is now the site of the popular Old Key Lime House, a water-front restaurant, known for it's award winning key lime pie and largest tiki bar in south Florida!

Captain Kenny was the owner of Lyman's Sports Fishing Docks located at the current site of the Boynton Beach Marina and a recreation charter fishing boat captain. He took out private clients on his boat the "Lucky Penny" named after his wife of 63 years, Penny Lyman and introduced them to the wonderful world of sports fishing. A self-proclaimed "cowboy of the seas", Captain Kenny dazzled his clients with his skill and tenacity as a captain and sports fisherman. Lyman's Fishing Docks became a popular tourist destination in the 1950's, hosting dozens of fishing competitions, beauty queen contests and local fish fries which raised money for local charitable causes.

THE HOME: Captain Kenny's House was built in 1925 by his other set of grandparents, Frank and Alice Austin, and was completely renovated in 2007. It is centrally located in downtown Boynton Beach and a 5 minute walk to local, casual and upscale restaurants, community parks, the Schoolhouse Children's Museum, City Hall's NEW outdoor amphitheater, public library, Boynton Harbor marina, diving, jet-skiing, sports fishing, parasailing and MORE and exactly 1 mile to the beach with sidewalks the whole way! The town of Boynton Beach hosts a number of festivals, parades and events and the location of this home puts guests at the epicenter of all the fun and festivities! It is also the ideal home base for day trips to Fort Lauderdale, Miami and the Florida Keys.

When you stay at the historic Captain Kenny's House, you will experience a home that is deeply rooted in history, but also equipped with all the desired amenities of a short-term vacation rental: large private fenced yard with hardscape patio courtyard, gas grill, SCUBA rinsing station, shed with beach gear, oversized driveway for car and boat parking, oversized dining table, high-speed internet, wi-fi, keyless entry, full size washer/dryer, high-chair and travel crib, books, toys and board-games, ALL linens included, fully-stocked kitchen with spice cabinet, coffee/espresso station and 2 smart TVs.

As a big homeschool family, we have outfitted our home to accommodate the needs of families similar to ours too! We are also a musical family so this home has a full-size weighted keyboard and guitar available for guest use. Please be careful with each and ENJOY!

The host was absolutely amazing and communicated clearly throughout our entire stay. The home is beautiful and thoughtfully stocked with every amenity you could possibly need. From the high-quality sheets and towels to the appliances, everything was top-notch. We truly felt at home and would love to book again in the future. Thank you for such a wonderful stay!

Very close to Oceanfront Beach. Beautifully decorated, board games for the entire family, comfortable and convenient. My 5 year old love the antique desk and toy chest!

Trip to Boynton Beach

Great stay!

Great house close to the beach! Bedroom setup was nice with a 3-bed bunkroom for the kids and two queens for the grownups. Kids really enjoyed all the toys in the sunroom!

Adorable Boynton Bungalow

Everything was great at this rental. We loved the location as we could walk to some popular restaurants. The house was spacious and well maintained. Would definitely recommend.

Fabulous Space for Family

My family of 4 had a lovely time at this house. It was clean, close to family we were visiting in Florida and had just about everything we could think of for our kids in the house. Brenda was lovely to work with and we loved the history behind the house too. We hope to come back again in future years for vacation!

An historic, charming home

The privacy of the Captain Kenny home is nice. Walled-in backyard and plenty of space for entertaining. Sheets and towels are clean and soft. Good a/c. Would definitely recommend as a great getaway vacation rental, just wish we had more time to enjoy it!

Pleasant and comfortable.

This was a relaxing and comfortable stay. Brenda was easy to communicate with, the beds were very comfortable, and the home was well stocked, clean and as we expected. The only thing I was not aware of were the trains running right behind the house, but we were not bothered by them. I would recommend Captain Kenny's for the next guests! Thank you Brenda. 😊

Thanksgiving Stay

The property is a beautiful space, very clean, spacious and accommodating for our dog. The only thing we didn’t expect is that the train is pretty much in the back yard. Very loud. Literally shakes the house. Besides that had a lovely stay.

Provided Every Thing Necessary to Enjoy

Clean and spacious. At any one time only had 3 adults or less staying. Loved that there were basically three living areas (including the patio area). That if you wanted to be together you could but if you needed privacy that was easily accommodated. The house was well supplied and minimized things that were needed to be able to cook etc. I am looking forward to staying here again.

Spring Break

This was an awesome home that was well stocked with everything you need. There were plenty of bath and beach towels as well as beach supplies. The kitchen was fully stocked as well. There were even spices in the cabinet. My kids loved all the books and games. We made played games each night before bed. My kids loved exploring games we don't have at home. Great place with plenty of sleeping space for a big family.

Charming and Spacious

Loved the house itself. Very charming and the history of the home and its owners is very interesting. It is about a mile from a public beach, so if you are interested in going back and forth, you will probably end up doing so by vehicle. We used Lyft and that worked well. The house is very close to train tracks and trains do come by every half hour or so. We got used to the noise the first day, so for us, the trains were not a problem. Overall we really enjoyed our stay!

Comfortable, Clean, and Charming!

We had the privilege of being the "first VRBO guests" at "Captain Kenny's", and it was an absolutely wonderful stay. The home was clean, functional, relaxing, and charming. It's obvious that the host has infused this home with a lot of care and thoughtfulness. Our kids really enjoyed the game room, board games, books, and fenced-in back yard. Each bedroom had a sound machine, and practically every outlet had USB connectors/extenders. Brenda was easy to work with, and active in making sure we were doing ok, how to check in, etc. She graciously allowed us a late check-out. Our family plans to be repeat guests at this wonderful home!

Nice Property but Needs Work

The property is cute but needs some work. The sheets and blankets smelled bad so we had to wash them first thing. There was only a couple of Tide pods so that was an issue. The blender didn't work. Beach toys were broken and we found nasty little boy underwear in the wagon. Bathroom did not have soap and we found a large cockroach in the main bedroom. Smells musty. Nice but needs some extra attention

Spacious home away from home

So thankful that Brenda and her family decided to open their amazing historical family vacation home to others. This home and space is well loved by their family and it shows. They have it stocked with everything you could possibly need in the house and for the beach. The home was extremely clean and the space is amazingly roomy. The large bonus living room was a great separate space for remote working/ homeschooling families like ours. The fenced yard was perfect for our small dog. The home is located in a nice, quiet neighborhood yet only a couple blocks from restaurants and other stores. An easy 20 minute walk will have you at a very nice public beach. Brenda was exceptionally easy to communicate with and wanted to make sure we had everything we could possibly need. My only note is that the queen beds are quite soft. That's not a complaint just a personal preference thing. Thanks again Brenda and family!

Amazing 10/10 will book again!

Firstly, check in was a breeze and so convenient. The location is great, minutes from so many things and even going into Palm Beach is super quick and easy. The host was very quick to respond to any questions and very helpful. This home has everything you could need and then some. Bath towels, beach towels, dishes, spices, pots, pans, gas grill, games and so much more. The beach gear was a life saver, we used the umbrella and chairs (beach cart was so amazing too) and my kids really enjoyed the scooters. Nice coffee and espresso station as well as the Ninja blender to make smoothies and the kids loved that. Everyone had their own space and the beds are absolutely amazing. High quality pillows and bedding, best sleep I've had in awhile. I will absolutely be coming back to stay next year. If you're looking for the perfect family house in Boynton, this is it! We had five people but would have been comfortable with 4-5 more honestly. The checkout list is very reasonable and easy to do...I couldn't rate this stay any higher, the host really has thought of everything when it comes to this home.
