Beautiful home and plenty of room!

This house was perfect! We had to attend a wedding near the house and the house was so spacious! Beautiful views!

A Little Bit of Paradise

We thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful Hawaii-themed house and the location on the riverbank. It is a very comfortable, well-stocked house...everything you can think of was available! We did several walks a day along the private beach, which the dogs exploring.

Beautiful Hideaway

In town for a wedding , we stayed with 2 other couples. Plenty of space for everyone. Everything you need was there. The Hammocks and hot tub were amazing, What a beautiful, relaxing and peaceful stay. Sunrise was to die for ! We will be back!

Great Place!

Really enjoyed staying at this house. Little more remote than I would have liked. Didn't realize pet fee wasn't included in the price. Only real drawback was all the seagulls on the dock, made fishing off it so unpleasant with all the droppings. Would defiantly rent again.

Amazing family vacation

A wonderful family vacation at a beautiful river house. We swam the fish we walk the beaches.. Sunrises were breathtaking. Beautiful views from every window of the house. Pet friendly home our dogs enjoyed swimming and running the beaches to. The house had everything we needed and more. We made find family memories. We’re looking forward to coming back and making more.

Hawaiian Hideaway

Our stay was a pleasant one. Turns out this property is extremely remote and much older than expected. The owners clearly are working hard to update the house and there are many amenities. It's a bit cramped for 11 people. Our family always has a good time when together and we did so here as well.

Surprise Engagement

What a beautifully decorated home. This home had plenty of room for our group (Except the bathrooms. 2 bathrooms was a little tight for 13 adults). We came down for a stay before a concert in Va Beach and my daughter’s boyfriend suprised her with a proposal. It was a wonderful weekend and we would definitely stay here again.

Fantastic Getaway!

Our group of 7 REALLY enjoyed our stay at the Hawaiian Hideaway! The house was clean and well prepped, and the rooms and amenities matched what we reviewed online. Beds were comfortable and the kitchen was stocked with all the pots/pans/utensils and dishes we needed. The view is fantastic from multiple points inside the house, on the deck or from the hot tub - and the beach and dock are great options for a walk or just to sit and relax. We were in the area for an event in Smithfield, so the location was perfect for us. Our entire group would highly recommend The Hawaiian Hideaway if you are looking to stay in the area. And I have to say, the Hawaiian vibe was a plus as we all felt relaxed and refreshed after our stay. Ke aloha!

Our final Girl Scout Troop Trip

We loved loved loved staying at The Hawaiian Hideaway. It was such a great final culmination of all our years of cookie sales and hard work in our community. The girls and mom's who came made such great final Girl Scout Troop memories. Everything about the house and property was perfect. Everything we needed was there including so many fun games. We played and laughed so hard. The outdoor swing loungers were a huge hit and watching the deer on the beach and friendly neighborhood dogs, who came to make sure we were happy with everything, were amazing. We were up watching the sunrise almost every morning and found lots of sea glass that the girls collected to make into cool projects. All of us want to return someday if life allows us to. Thank you so much for everything.

Great quiet retreat

The place was fantastic. Bonus: it was 5 bedrooms not 4 as listed. The view was beautiful. Well stocked kitchen. The arcade style games were fun. We were looking for a private area and this fit the bill beautifully.

Relaxing getaway with private beach in backyard

We had a relaxing family vacation there! House is just as described and seen on the website with short walk down wooden steps to the nice backyard wide sandy beach. Beds were very comfortable. Kitchen has all the supplies you need, just bring your food & beverage. A/C doesn't cool the living, kitchen, and dining areas very effectively, but the bedrooms were cool enough for sleeping. One full bath is in the kids bunk bedroom. The other full bath is in the hall. You have to go up a half flight of steps with no rail, and through the large king bedroom to get to the only shaded outdoor seating area which is also where the grill is-so not convenient to the kitchen. The outdoor shower is very nice to rinse off the river water and sand when you come up from the beach. The hot tub was great and is in a screened gazebo. In August, the river water temperature was very warm and not refreshing. The river is very shallow, like only up to 18" deep (adult's knees) even way out beyond the end of the pier, so not swimmable. Water is thick green and river bed has a murky slimy black bottom. No chairs provided on the beach, however there are some folding sand chairs in the little room at the backdoor, as well as owner provided beach towels, which was very nice. The exterior deck is warped and has a lip in the middle of it, which we all tripped over at least once. Exterior could use some updates. We all had a fun time!

Great Family Relaxation Location

We had a wonderful time relaxing with our family and another family that included four young kids and an infant. The house conveniently had lots of beach toys, beach chairs/supplies, inside games, and books to use. The kids loved the bunk room and playing in the arcade room. Added bonus for our trip included the high chair and pack n play. The beach is close enough to the house our baby monitor would still get signal which was so nice to allow the family to enjoy the beach while littles napped. Would have been nice if the lawn was freshly mowed, but it wasn’t that big of a deal for us. The views from the master are beautiful, just pack yourself an eyemask as the sunshine comes in through nice and early. And if you have littles be careful on the dock as a few planks plop up if you step in the right spot. Location is a little bit remote (closest grocery store about 15-20 minutes), so just preplan your meals if you don’t feel like driving. We had a really nice vacation and would definitely recommend this location, bonus our dog loved joining us!

Amazing - If you're on the fence, do it!

We had an amazing stay at the Hawaiian Hideaway. This was our first time renting a property along the James river, and if we ever go again, believe me we'll be trying to stay here again. The first day we arrived we knew it was going to be great. We were greeted by the property owner who was making sure that the beach and house were ready for guests. They talked us through the amenities and what they had done for guests and immediately made us feel at home. They also gave us a some insider info to bring some bread on the ferry to Jamestown for the seagulls, which was killer! Our group was two adults and four children and there was more than enough space for everyone in the house. The outdoors is where you'll want to spend your time however. Amazing beachfront, great views, and lots of care and thought put into how to maximize the enjoyment of your time there. Absolutely wonderful property and hosts, 100% worth it and if you have a chance treat yourself to the closest thing to Hawaii in Virginia!
