Temple Tree Retreat - An Adventurer's Oceanfront Paradise!

Overlooking ancient lava ocean cliffs, Temple Tree Retreat is designed to see and feel nature all around you. Our home has three main living spaces - you get the entire property to yourselves. The main area hosts the kitchen, two bedrooms, bathroom and laundry room. Another area is a bedroom/bathroom suite and the third area is a library and office space with a pull out couch bed. The three areas are connected by a covered, open lanai that serves as a cool gangway with amazing ocean views from every plank. Live the Adventurer's life, be a pirate for a week, explore this astounding island from your home port of Temple Tree Retreat.

Temple Tree Retreat has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Please respect our max occupancy of 4 guests until our water system capacity is increased.

We loved the house! Host was very responsive for the one question I had. We watched porpoises from the back yard, and saw humpbacks from a distance. They must come much closer after dark because we could hear them spouting and grunting and (I think) slapping the water with their tails quite clearly from the upstairs bedroom, even with the windows closed. The day geckos that live under the lanai are adorable. Its a bit of a drive into town, but that's perfect for us. If you stay, try to make the hike down to Hāʻena Beach. It's a quick drive to the parking area, and a trek through the jungle, but so worth it. We will definitely be back!

This place was like a dream! We were able to watch the whales from the deck and enjoy the beautiful scenery. I couldn't imagine a more beautiful place in paradise! This place had everything, especially stunning views, and incredible sunrises!

We loved our stay at this beautiful oceanfront home. The location truly couldn’t be better—just steps from the cliffs with waves crashing below. Falling asleep with the bedroom door open and the screen letting in the ocean breeze and sound of the surf was unforgettable, and waking up to the sunrise over the water was absolutely stunning.The home was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped. Having a washer and dryer plus a dishwasher made the week incredibly convenient. Our host was attentive and responsive throughout our stay, which made everything even smoother.If you’re looking for a peaceful getaway with unbeatable ocean views and the relaxing sound of waves day and night, this is the place. We can’t wait to come back!

We felt very comfortable at this retreat. The gated property gives a sense of security. The open air bedroom to the sea provides a wonderful view and great sleep. The ocean view is spectacular.

We were 4 adult women friends traveling through Hawaii. This place was wonderful! It was such a lovely drive to get here and it was very secluded, clean and comfortable for all of us. The ocean views were marvelous and all the frog singing is ringing in our ears. There were many many spaces to be in and those stars at night!Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful house and we hope to come stay with you again someday.

Stay in on Hilo side

We loved the property. Not your typical rental house, everyone hade their own space and the grounds were beautiful.They were very accommodating when we realized I’d booked for the wrong dates. They got us into another spot until Temple was ready for us!

I really liked the forest cabin type property I loved this place! Well appointed kitchen not tht I used it much, ha ha ha! A lot of room for people to have their own space with the three building layout.Will book again in the future when I return to this beautiful island. I thank the owner and I especially thank the people of Hawai'i and the spirit of the island herself. Such a lovely place in a world filled with many troubles. Peace.

Interesting house, fantastic location

We enjoyed our stay at this unique place. Beautiful location, right on the water. The house is a unique design with lots of space to roam around. We only had a few minor issues. One is that the refrigerator freezer had someone else’s garbage in it. The owner wants you to put any garbage that might attract insects in a bag in the freezer which is fine. However, they should remove the previous guests garbage before new guest move in. The house needs a functional can opener. The current one is rusty and nonfunctional. Also, it would be nice to have some smaller cocktail glasses in addition to the large 16 oz glasses and abundant wine glasses.

The Power of the Temple Tree Retreat

Breathless!! This place has Hawaii home, all over it. We just loved everything about it from all the old history decor, to the crashing ocean waves! The gated property made us feel very safe, but it was as if we were in our own world!! Just not enough time or words to put it all in. The one word that keeps popping into my mind is "Spiritual" Can't wait to go back.Mahalo!!

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was somewhat unhappy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This house had an amazing view and a layout that offered lots of personal space. However, it's not in a great location: About an hour from the national park, 90 minutes from Black Sand Beach, 30 minutes from Hilo, 90 minutes from the Observatory. Lots of driving to places. The property is private and a great retreat, but the kitchen is not well stocked, which makes cooking challenging, with no restaurants close by. This makes it less relaxing and add hassle.

Waves and whales

This is our second time staying here. This is a great spot for a family of 4-5 people. The added picnic table was a very pleasant place for breakfast looking out to the ocean watching the whales beach and swimming around the bay. The sounds of the geckos and waves made falling asleep super easy. Just a perfect spot.

Amazing stay!

A quaint experience in a quirky set of buildings in a dreamy location. We had whales so close you could hear them blowing from inside over the sound of the pounding surf, and watched turtles playing from our porch. Decently appointed, comfortable beds, great views. It was clean, and the management was responsive.

Right on the water with spectacular views! This plantation style home is very nice, with lots of charm and character. Overall, a very nice and comfortable stay.

Paradise

The view cannot be beat! The living room, 1 bedroom, and main space are separate buildings connected with a covered walkway. I over looked the fact that it does not have air conditioning, for us that was not good. The view though is spectacular!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Lots of sleeping room options. The beds closer to the waves could be a bit too loud with the winter crashing waves but moving to the upstairs bedroom provided the perfect mix of waves but tranquility for sleeping. The upstairs bedroom could get too warm during a sunny day but once evening arrived, it cooled down with the open windows sufficient for sleeping. The beds were very plush and soft. Showers came with body wash and shampoo. The home is very private with its own gate. It takes about 20 minutes to go to the nearest town of Keauu and 30 minutes into Hilo. Would stay again if considering staying on the Hilo side of the island.
