Imagine ending your day in a steaming hot tub while watching the sun set behind layers of Smoky Mountain ridges. As darkness falls, thousands of stars fill the sky above. Welcome to The Bear's Den Mountain Lodge—our family's custom-built luxury retreat in the prestigious gated Laurel Valley community. The property is beautiful and spacious. The view from the patio is simply amazing. We spent every morning and evening on the patio watching sunrise and sunset. Owner is very responsive to our questions and inquiries. We really enjoyed our time there.

We visited with 4 adults and 7 kids. The views were amazing and the property was well cared for and well stocked. The kids particularly loved the basketball court and climbing wall out front as well as the fire pit and hot tub. It was perfect for our stay and we would 100 percent recommend this property!

The view was beyond amazing and we loved staying outside the hustle of Gatlinburg. Our teens loved the video game room and we spent several nights around tbe fire pit and even saw a baby bear walking along the driveway. Will definitely stay here again

We were excited to spend our family reunion at the house shown in the photos. The inside of the house was as shown in the listing photos. We esp enjoyed having the garage apt available . The house needs a larger dining table.The outside was another story. The grounds were very overgrown ..basketball steps obscured, path to steps to firepit completely hidden, bushes growing over firepit area..it needs serious attention. When trimmed it will be a beautiful perennial gardensThe basketball goal was broken..backstop broken and lifting strut apparatus held on by a string so that when we tried to raise it, it started to fall on one of the kids.The firepit was rotted out on the bottom and any wood was soaked through. There was no wood stacked or view as shown in photo.The cornhole box had dirty water in it and only two very dirty sacks to throwI was hesitant to leave a negative review but I rely on the description and the photos to make my decision. This was not on the low end for pricing either .It was very nice inside and a real mess outside.

Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad you enjoyed the cabin, interior, and garage apartment. We’re sorry the exterior did not meet your expectations. We do want to clarify a few points for future guests, as several comments in the review do not accurately reflect the property. We have since trimmed back the landscaping and overgrowth. The firepit is approximately 15 feet from the house and is accessed by paver stepping stones. The basketball goal is a weighted, portable unit designed to be moved and, like any large apparatus, should not be moved by small children. There are no strings incorporated into its design. The firepit is a raised steel pit with a solid bottom, so the wood cannot become soaked from a “rotted” bottom. We had a small supply of firewood available, and guests may also gather fallen wood from our five acres or purchase it locally. During summer, when evenings are typically 75–80 degrees, we do not maintain a large wood supply since the firepit receives limited use. The dining table seats eight, with room for approximately five additional guests at the kitchen island. We take our guests’ feedback seriously and have addressed the landscaping concerns. We appreciate your comments and hope future guests will have the opportunity to enjoy the property and its outdoor amenities as intended.

Excellent stay with the best views of Smoky Mountains

We stayed over the Fourth of July and the house was a perfect place for our family to relax and play. We were able to enjoy tubing, waterfall hikes, the Cades Cove Loop biking, fishing and more. The house was very clean and had a lot of games. We loved the Dancing Bear cafe restaurant nearby. This was the perfect location for our vacation.

Beautiful homeThis kitchen was well stocked with anything you would need to cook family meals during your stay. And plenty of counter space on the island. The s’mores kit and other snacks left for us was nice. Host was responsive and helpful First time staying in Townsend; Enjoyed the peacefulness of this side of the Smokies.

Perfect Family Vacation with our adult kids and two grandchildren!

What a welcoming home! The best we’ve EVER rented. It was super family friendly for four days and the view was breathtaking. Highly recommend!!!!

Absolutely Wonderful

We had an amazing time staying here. Very clean, lots to do and so spacious! Jill and Kurt took great care of us. You won’t regret booking here. We spent Thanksgiving in this lovely cabin and it was exactly what our family needed. A wonderful place to stay.

We would like to personally welcome you to our family's log cabin in the Great Smoky Mountains. We are very excited for you to stay in our dream home with amazing views and hope that you and your family have a wonderful vacation and enjoy it as much as our family does.

We are pretty unique hosts because we actually built this cabin as our dream home in late 2021. As the coffee table photo album will show, we did a lot of the work ourselves: all the stonework for the kitchen island, floor to ceiling fireplace and mantle; all the railings on the two-60-foot decks; the knotty pine tongue and groove in the lower level; the tile flooring; all the painting and landscaping, and so-so much more.

My wife Jill and I will be your hosts and are available to answer any questions you have prior to or during your stay at The Bear's Den, but we will leave you alone to relax once you have checked in and are all settled so you can enjoy your vacation.

Jill has thought of everything when it comes to stocking the house for you, so you are as comfortable in our cabin as you are in your own home.

We hope your family will enjoy The Bear's Den as much as ours does.

We started looking at the Knoxville area because we wanted to be near our Daughter and Son-in law just over the border in NC, and the low cost of living (no state income taxes:)) and then we fell in love with the mountains! Equally, we were amazed at how friendly and genuine the people were. We were looking at water front property to build, but when we saw all the log cabins we decided on a log cabin with a great view of the mountains. Every time we drove up the Bear Den road we felt we really had a unique location and reminded of the incredible views we will have when we are finished. The build took the better part of two years. Constructing a home in the mountains is quite different than if you are a low-lander. Jill and I and our two son's Troy and Adam took on several projects our selves (see pictures on coffee table book). Lastly, every time we visited the lot we would stand still and noticed how quiet it was. No traffic or city 'noise'. It is rare in this world we live in to be able to sit outside at most all hours of the day and hear only the sounds of nature. And maybe you too will know the answer to the age old question: "Does a Bear fart in the woods?"
