Late Summer at Alger Alps
Warm days still delight through late August and September, but evenings cool once the sun drops behind the ridge. The covered deck catches that shift best. Sit out with coffee in the morning or a glass of wine after dinner and watch the light change over the trees and nearby hills.
Reed Lake sits three minutes from the front door on foot. Cain Lake is a short drive, with a boat launch for kayaks and canoes and good fishing off the bank most mornings. Bellingham and Mount Vernon both are drivable in about twenty-five minutes, close enough for a day of shopping, sightseeing or dinner downtown without cutting into your enjoyment at the house.
The kitchen has stainless appliances, a big dining table, and counter space for several people to cook at once. Late summer here means Chuckanut Drive with the windows down. Farm stands stay stocked into September. The Sunday Market in Alger runs through the season if you want to spend an hour talking with locals. Galbraith Mountain`s trail network is fifteen minutes away for anyone who rides, and Mt. Baker`s alpine trails are open through early fall before the snow comes back. Closer to home, the Alger Alps Trail and Lookout Mountain Forest Preserve start right in the neighborhood.
Sleeping arrangements spread across two levels. On the main floor, two queen bedrooms share a full bath with a soaking tub, and the game and media room gives kids or adults their own space with oversized sack chairs, a foosball table, and a smart TV. Upstairs, the primary suite has a four-poster bed and an ensuite bath with a walk-in shower and standalone tub, along with a twin room that works well for children or an extra guest in the group. Upstairs the large great room invites relaxation, conversation and gathering. Cool in the summer and able to warm if the temperature drops with a mini split.
The house sits inside the Glenhaven Lakes community, with seasonal access to a pool, tennis and basketball courts, two playgrounds, and small-lake boat access. Two garage spaces with EV charging keep gear dry and the car ready for the next trip out.
The home is named for the mountain that the home is nestled at the base of - lovingly nicknamed the Alger Alps. :)
Glenhaven Lakes is a small residential community in Washington, nestled in the low lying hills of Alger Mountain and the Chuckanut Ridge. Home to eagles, deer, geese, and ravens, this excellent location is perfect for heading out on your next adventure.
It`s close to many different recreational areas and everything the Northwest has to offer. Less than an hour and a half to Mt Baker Ski Area and the Mt Baker National Forest. About 15 minutes to Galbraith Mountain Biking Trails: Over 50 miles of singletrack that winds through over 3000 acres overlooking the city and Bellingham Bay. Hiking trails abound - the closer ones are the Alger Alps Trail, Lookout Mountain Forest Preserve. There`s fishing in nearby Cain Lake with a boat launch for non-motorized boats - it`s fantastic for kayaking, too. Nearby Lake Whatcom is large and beautiful!
