Overall we enjoyed our stay. It does get quite hot even with windows open. Some of the fans in the rooms did not work or were stuck on low. The view and the pool were amazing.

Great location and breathtaking views off the sea cliffs. Very much off the beaten path/ quiet - we loved that we could hear the waves crashing on the lava rocks outside. The pool and hot tub were much appreciated by our elementary school age kids. The property is older but well maintained.

This is a cool place on the volcanic cliffs. A beautiful yard that we enjoyed. The house is good but it needs some upkeep. We did have a few maintenance issues which they worked with us to resolve.

Unbelievably beautiful place! Dreamlike location, top-tier star gazing. Easy drives to all the best of Puna. The house was perfect for our group of 7. Comfortable, well-provisioned. Host was attentive and responsive. Fell asleep to the roar of the ocean every night and watched the sunrise from the rocks every morning. Unforgettable. Can’t recommend highly enough

We were very pleased with this property. The ocean front location is beautiful and we frequently saw turtles in the water in front of the house. Our kids enjoyed the pool and the hot tub. The property was clean and well-maintained. The property is professionally managed and the management team was very responsive.

We loved our time at this property. The house cools down quickly once you open all the windows. Check in was super easy and our two questions were answered quickly via text. The home felt like a destination unto itself. Watching the sunrise and turtles in the AM and relaxing in the pool at night were perfect ways to bookend our Hilo-side adventures.

Beautiful and relaxing stay.

This house and the surrounding area are perfect if you are looking for a quiet, peaceful, tropical vacation. The house was clean and beautifully situated if you enjoy listening to the sound of the ocean (which we LOVE). The neighborhood was walkable and peaceful. We would stay here again and again.

Family vacation

The house is just like photos. Our family of 6 had plenty of room. Well equipped kitchen, every room has its own individual patio with sitting area (even the little one)the pool and hot tub next to the ocean made it really amazing. Definitely 5 stars!

The property was as advertised. Plenty of room for our party of 6 adults. Enjoyed the pool, hot tub, and oceanfront. The property location was convenient for our activities.

Nice house, but worn and needs to be refreshed, particularly the living room couch. And absence of Kleenex, paper napkins, coffee filters, scissors, and aluminum foil was a nuisance. Also, the handrail to the top floor needs to be extended 3' so that it reaches the top floor.

Pros:The view is absolutely beautiful, with an open kitchen, living, and dining space facing the ocean, pool, and hot tub. The upstairs master suite is beautiful, large, and offers a deck for amazing sunrises. The lawn was well kept and beautiful. Cons:Cleanliness: The master and downstairs bathrooms were dirty. The master shower had a moldy, soap-scummy curtain, soap scum on the rock walls, and filthy faucets. We found mouse or gecko droppings on the master closet floor on day one, and the top of the fridge was covered in dust and mold. For such a high cleaning fee, this was unacceptable.Privacy Concerns: There was a security camera in the living room pointed at the pool, and another in the master bedroom window facing the driveway. A few days in, we realized the living room camera was unplugged under a table, but the bedroom camera was plugged in and taped to the wall.Condition & Maintenance: The patchwork paint on the garage gives a run-down first impression. The property lacks air conditioning, making it very uncomfortable for sleeping. Furthermore, one bedroom's sliding screen door was broken and off, preventing us from leaving the door open for airflow due to fear of pests—and we still had two huge centipedes get inside. Finally, the hot tub lid was badly worn, and the hot tub itself was rusty and filthy. We couldn't even use it to relax.Overall: This place is way over priced.If you are looking to de-stress in a relaxing, clean environment, this is not the place.

Mahalo for your thoughtful and detailed review. We are happy that you enjoyed the location and floor plan at Hale Mar. We are so sorry if the bathrooms appeared dirty. The slate tiles and black toilets amplify the hard water stains to a high degree. The original owner of the house made some unfortunate design decisions that can cause the appearance of cleaning issues even though every surface is thoroughly scrubbed in between every guest. The bathroom fixtures are also hard water stained, and we are working with the owner to replace them. We will ask the owner about painting the garage, but in an oceanfront jungle environment, there's always repairs and upgrades needed and it's often best to apply funds to more crucial projects. I have alerted our handyman about the screen door so he can fix it right away. Remember we are just a call, text, or email away if there's any maintenance that needs doing. I will alert our housekeeping manager about the top of the fridge and the back of the closet. Most of our rentals do have cameras pointed at the driveway, and the ocean front properties have cameras pointed at the ocean cliffs behind the homes. We have had the hot tub lid in transit for almost 6 months! One of the unavoidable challenges of life on this tiny rock surrounded by thousands of miles of ocean ;-) We appreciate your feedback, and bringing these issues to our attention. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Comfortable home with a spectacular view. We enjoyed grilling dinner and hanging out in the pool.

Pretty perfect

It was beautiful. Hot without windows open, but cooled off quickly. Small ants food get into a few things like food and tooth brush so put everything in sealed bags, but it definitely did not ruin our stay. Kids lived the pool and adults loved the hot tub. Can't beat the view!!
