Relax at the Barefoot Mermaid, a 3BR 2BA cottage retreat half a mile from the beach and only one mile from Carolina Beach’s best dining, recreation, and entertainment. Restaurants for every taste. An old-fashioned Boardwalk with a Ferris wheel and amusement rides. Fireworks on the beach every Thursday. Free live music on Fridays. Lake Park, with a Saturday Farmers’ Market and free outdoor movies on Sundays. All within one mile of this beach hideaway. The Island Greenway, a 1.2-mile biking/walking path is a block from the house. Another block over is Mike Chappell Park, with tennis, pickleball, and basketball courts, a skate park, and playground. A short drive away, visit the NC Aquarium, Ft. Fisher, Carolina Beach State Park, and the Kure Beach Pier for fishing and sightseeing.

Connect your device to the stereo speakers with sub-woofer. Central A/C plus 5 ceiling fans will keep you cool.

Prepare meals in the fully equipped kitchen, with full-size stove, oven, and refrigerator (w/ice-maker and filtered water), dishwasher, microwave, 2 coffee makers (drip and pod), convection toaster oven, crock pot, blender, dishware, cookware, and utensils. Serve in the light-filled dining area or at the kitchen counter. Out back, there’s a picnic table with umbrella, and a covered porch with rockers that are the perfect place to sit and listen for the ocean in the quiet of the evening.

You have three bedrooms to choose from: Queen (w/shower bath), Queen (w/Smart TV), and Twin with easy-to-use trundle (sleeps 2).
The second bathroom has a tub/shower.
There is also a full-size washer/dryer.

The Barefoot Mermaid is your beach retreat—tucked out of the way, yet just minutes from the best Carolina Beach has to offer.
Cottage-style one-story living—no stilts, just three steps up to the entrance. Nestled in a quiet residential neighborhood, the cottage provides off-street parking for two or three vehicles, depending on size.

Bring your own beach towels, chairs, boogie boards, paddle-boards, surfboards, kayaks, bikes, etc., and get ready to make some memories!

The perfect place that my boyfriend & I & 3 of our friends stayed at! This was our second year in Carolina Beach, we love it! The place was super clean, super spacious, huge bedrooms, large backyard & we all LOVED the back patio! Super easy access to all the amazing restaurants near by (5 min or less drive to most of them) Definitely would recommend/ stay here again!

Perfect beach cottage

This beach cottage is in a quiet neighborhood. It has everything you need for your stay. The beds are very comfortable, nice porches and a big backyard. It is a short, easy walk to the beach. It was just 2 adult friends but I plan to bring my husband and 4 kids to stay here, it’s a perfect little spot!

Great for a family vacation!

My husband and I stayed here for a birthday trip with some family and it was excellent. Not too far from the beach to walk and in a great neighborhood! Will definitely be coming back!

Great beach vacation

Perfect location for our family vacation. Property was clean and exactly as advertised. Had all the amenities we needed and was just a 10 min walk from the ocean. Back porch was ideal for morning coffee!

Perfect beach house

We had the perfect stay at this beautiful little house. Beautifully decorated. Very quiet. We had everything we needed. Plenty of space but also cozy. Easily walkable to the beach and restaurants and bars. Will definitely be back!

Family Time with a Big Backyard

We traveled from Iowa for end of school year celebrations and time with family. The house was the perfect size for the two of us sisters and a great location for the family to meet up before adventures to the beach and other places around town. The back porch was excellent for reading in the mornings, bird watching, and the yard was a beautiful place to hang out when the family brought over corn hole and pizza. The only drawback is the very small driveway. But great communication from owners!

Great experience

This is the perfect quintessential beach cottage. It’s beautifully decorated for the laid back beach vibes. Our family has children from middle school to pre-k ranges, and everyone was happy. It’s a quick 10-15 minute walk to the beach, and with the younger ones, bringing a wagon is helpful. The location is close enough to the boardwalk and shops to enjoy in the evening, but it’s far enough away to not be bothered on the busy July 4th holiday with noise. Everything was completely and thoughtfully communicated by the owner, and my family could not be happier with our stay. Thank you so much!

Family weekend away

All though it rained it was a great time. This home far exceeded other places even those in Hilton Head. Very clean and well stocked. The backyard is great if you had kiddos. Kitchen fully stocked, location is perfect, beds comfy and shower pressure with hot water was on point even with multi showers. We will stay again for sure. Cozy with a beach vide.

This proprty is very dirty. The front door is almost impossible to lock. The beds are soooo uncomfortable. They make you clean dishes that were dirty when you took them out. No coffee or soap, shampoo, conditioner provided. Toilet runs constantly and sprays at you when you flush it.

Great Cozy Stay-Easy

Everything stated about this was exactly true! It was close, quiet and loved the screened in porch for late night chats. The home was clean and everything worked as designed. The communication with agent, excellent! No recommendations for improvement. We were on the move so not a lot of time actually spent there. Was able to store our E bikes in the front screened porch area. I would definitely rent this property again!! Close to eating and drinking places along with a neat bike/walking trail very near.Quiet at night as well!

Beaching, Biking, Relaxing. We love Carolina Beach!

Our new happy place! We felt relaxed as soon as we walked in—it was so clean and welcoming. The kitchen has everything (we like to cook). Beds and baths perfect. Of course the main thing was the beach, which is just a 10-minute walk on a flat street. The fireworks on the beach Thurs night were great (they do it every week!). We all brought bikes and rode the bike path as well as going up to the boardwalk and restaurants. We were able to pack a lot in since it was so close. It was amazing to have such a peaceful house so close to everything. We actually tried to extend our stay but there was another reservation.

Barefoot Mermaid’s Carolina Beach house

(1) Got into vacation mode right away. Sweet place: All the amenities you could need and so bright and clean!!! Up to date appliances, all kitchen stuff you need. Sheets and towels provided made things easy (had to bring our own beach towels but that’s common). 2. Easy in, easy out. One good thing that came out of covid is the invention of “contactless check-in” with coded door locks. Quick and easy with no office key pickup or waiting for host. (3) Nice back porch and yard. (4) off the beaten path away from tourist attractions boardwalk etc (5) location location location. Walked to the beach in like 10 mins and could also use public parking real close by. We play pickle ball so glad for the park 2 blocks away Oh yeah: Best bbq and diner takeout just up the street Butts and Such. Almost like room service ha ha. Gonna try to go back in Sept or def next year.

Family Beach Getaway for July 4th weekend.

Overall for the price we are content with our stay. We were attracted to this home because of the location and price but even for the affordable price we were a little disappointed in a few things. Here’s our honest list of pros and cons. Pros: close to the beach, affordable, close to a bike and walkway, everything worked, kitchen had everything you’d need, and a large backyard. Cons: bathrooms and other items need updated, vents and bathroom fans were filthy and had mold, seem to have a bug problem we had multiple very large cockroaches during our stay, and the check out list was very excessive considering the price of service/cleaning fee. Also we were given a non working access code and when I reached out to the property management, they were a little condescending and short about the code, they gave us another code and it worked fine. Overall if your looking for a budget friendly place and don’t mind the cons it was a decent vacation rental.
