This place was exceptionally clean, cozy, and equipped with everything we needed. The kitchen was spotless, and the bedrooms were immaculate and very comfortable.The property is perfect for outdoor activities, with great areas for volleyball, fishing, and relaxing around the fire pit. The peaceful, quiet setting made it even more enjoyable.Kayaking and fishing on the river were highlights of our stay, providing hours of fun for both the kids and the adults. We had a wonderful experience and would highly recommend this place.

The place was great, caught fish in the river out back, floated the river, neighbors were nice, kayaks need a paddle update but were great to have, kitchen was good. Overall well kept. Subdivision was nice, lots of dirt roads in the area, we love dirt. Great area for UTVing to dinner or to drop kids off for creek floating. Had a great and relaxing time.

The property was a great size and we enjoyed the floor plan. The deck outside was a nice addition, however could've been cleaned up a little better. Some things on the house were overly worn or needed work like the bathtub drain stop, shower lining and shower curtain was dirty. Overall, no issues.

Perfect for a few day get away

Our kids loved fishing right off the river and sitting in the swing chairs. We chose to go to Buckleys for the river ride and it worked out perfectly!

We really enjoyed our stay. We stayed during the week and it appeared that most of the homes were vacation cottages so it was very peaceful and quiet. We would stay again.

Beautiful and peaceful getaway

This property was beautiful and the perfect getaway for my kids and I. We had a couple of rainy days but the endless amounts of Legos, puzzles, games, and coloring books kept us busy. Beautiful place in a peaceful setting!

We enjoyed our stay overall. The house is nicely updated, exceptionally organized, and everything is clearly labeled, which made it easy to find what we needed. The kitchen, bathrooms, and bedrooms were well stocked, and there were plenty of games and activities for kids indoors.Our favorite part was the outdoor space, especially the updated fire pit, sand area, hammocks, and swing chairs. We also loved feeding the birds and being surrounded by nature.A couple things to know before booking: we assumed we could swim in the river behind the house, but it’s very rocky and only a few inches deep. We did use the kayaks in the shallow water behind the house, but as beginners we weren’t sure where to launch them for a longer trip. Also, the home has two in-room A/C units rather than central air.Our biggest concern was the backyard. The concrete along the river is severely cracked and buckled, creating hiding places for wildlife. We repeatedly saw snakes coming and going from underneath it, and one slithered across our 7-year-old’s feet while he was standing in the yard. We expected wildlife in this beautiful setting, but not snakes emerging where our kids were playing. Had we known that, we likely would have chosen another property. Families with young children or anyone uncomfortable around snakes should keep this in mind.The dishes and utensils are excellent, but the pots and pans could use a refresh. The rugs could also use a deep cleaning, and more entry rugs would help

Relaxing weekend

Overall great experience, the place was as pictured but was somehow still better than expected. Sitting by the river with friends was a great way to spend memorial day weekend and the property made it even better. 10/10 recommend for anyone looking for a relaxing weekend.

Perfect long weekend getaway!

This was the perfect place to get away with just the three of us, it was clean, quiet, and relaxing. Sat out on the deck with our morning coffee and it was delightful! Even had a bonfire and sat in the fun hammock chairs! Everything you need is at the house. Thank you for sharing your space with us!

Relaxing Getaway

Such a cute little place with a beautiful setting on the Chippewa River. We had a very relaxing, but far too short, weekend. The swings/hammocks around the firepit were perfect. Didn't have a lot of luck fishing, but had a lot of fun trying. We would definitely love to return one day.

Exactly what we were looking for!

This vrbo was exactly what we were looking for, for a long weekend with our family. We did a day at the Soaring Eagle waterpark with our kids. We didn't want to stay at the hotel, so this was a great option to relax and have our own space. The kids absolutely loved all of the board games, the pacman arcade game, and the lego table! We had our coffee by the river in the morning and roasted marshmallows by the bonfire at night. Great stay!

Lovely!

We loved the swings and hammocks around the fire pit! Enjoyed morning coffee with all the birds sitting on the bank of the river. Cooked a delicious meal on the Blackstone grill. Wifi was amazing and covered the entire property. Thanks you for letting us share in this wonderful retreat.

Clean, cool and comfortable! Honestly can't recommend enoughl. The open floor space is great for socializing without feeling cramped. Coffee pods, shower items and laundry detergent/sheets were kindly provided. The neighborhood is quiet. And best of all, the back deck is incredibly calming! Watch the lovely Chippewa river go by, check out all the beautiful native birds visiting the feeder (get your Merlin app ready!), and enjoy the turtles, trout and other lovely wildlife who come to visit! Honestly cannot wait to stay again.

Another great memory

Sisters getting together for a couple of priceless days. This was a great cabin to catch up on some old stories of our past & present lives. Thecabin was very clean well equipped & very cozy. The flowing river & bird feeders full of several Michigan bird species just outside the sliding glass was awesome. Thanks.

Nice house on the river

If you’re looking for a quiet place, this is it. It’s a really nice, renovated house right on the river , that has all the necessities you might need. It has plenty of board games ( for a rainy days) as well as the outside fun activities( valleyball net, fire pit, bird feeders). Nicole, was quick to respond to my question and the check in process was easy.

Great family getaway spot

Checkin was smooth with no issues - we actually never needed to contact the host as the house was clean and everything was functioning properly. There are some other properties close by but everything was quiet as could be. The river flowing just steps away from the house is super peaceful and the wooded area across the river provided for some nice views of the wildlife. It was too cold to enjoy much of the outside in December, but the patio and firepit area would be great in some warmer weather. The kitchen had all the necessities needed to prepare meals and the appliances are up to date and well-maintained. We would not hesitate to visit again!

nice quiet place

Overall the Beaver's Den was a nice destination for a get-away. Even though there are many houses around the Den, it was generally very quiet. Very much enjoyed watching the woodpeckers, blue jays and hummingbirds enjoying the bird feeders. Would definitely stay here again if it's available when I'm in the area. Tried to kayak on the Chippewa River but gave up. The river moves deceptively fast and with no experience kayaking and traveling alone I decided trying to kayak would be a very bad idea. For groceries there is a nice store in Evart and in Mt. Pleasant there is a Meijer's and Wal-Mart. Barryton does have a Dollar General but I don't know about the quality or variety of their food selection. Do note that the air conditioning is window AC units and not central air. The window AC units are on the noisy side. There was also a number of moths and mosquitoes in the Den at times, most likely because the gap between the upper and lower window sashes with the AC units had not been blocked in some way. Also the floors weren't particularly clean. Ran the swiffer around the Den. It picked up a fair amount dirt and hair which I know wasn't my hair since my head is shaved, beard is very short and the hair was way longer than any hair that I have.

Every year my daughters, granddaughters and I go on an annual girls trip. This year we chose Beaver Den as our vacation spot. I really wanted to give a glowing review but in all honesty I just can't. I contacted the property manager the morning after check in to let her know about some concerns I had about the property. She did get back with me right away and we spoke on the phone regarding the issues. There were just a few small things that were solved very easily and didn't impact our stay at all, however there was one MAJOR issue we were having regarding a very pungent mold smell inside the house. I told her that when we arrived and I went to open the door I didn't even get inside the house before I could smell it, it was overwhelming. I explained to her that I am allergic to mold. We concluded that it was probably caused by the excessive amount of rain we had in the week prior to our arrival. I found out nobody had been in the house the week before us. I guessed they had a leak somewhere and it went undetected until we arrived. She apologized and offered a discount which I NEVER SAW! After 5 days in that house my asthma was terrible. Another issue was the air conditioning, it wasn't central air as advertised there are 2 room air conditioners ( 1 in the living room and 1 in 1 bedroom). The people that slept in the other 2 bedrooms were uncomfortably hot and every night people slept on the couch for relief.

That said, I wanted to personally respond to a few points from your review to clarify and hopefully provide some closure. First, regarding the mold smell you mentioned, I want to reiterate that I never dismissed your concerns. In fact, I specifically said we would take them seriously and get the property inspected to ensure everything was safe. I did not suggest there was a leak or try to diagnose the issue myself—that was your own conclusion. My intention was simply to acknowledge your concern, not to invalidate it. I also want to respectfully point out that during our conversation, you mentioned that after cooking bacon and eggs, the smell was no longer noticeable in the house. While I understand that you personally found the scent concerning—especially given your asthma—this does suggest that the issue may not have been as overwhelming to the average guest as it was to you. Additionally, despite our repeated offers to send someone to the property to assess and address the situation immediately, you declined to allow us to do so. As for the refund, we did process a $185 refund to the card on file as a goodwill gesture, even though you stayed the full five nights. Refunds can take 7 to 10 business days to appear on your card, depending on your bank or card company. If you don’t see it after that timeframe, we’re happy to assist
