The property was in a good location and was clean upon arrival, which were definitely positives. Unfortunately, the issue with the air conditioning made our stay very uncomfortable. The A/C was essentially held hostage. We were not able to control the thermostat, which was locked and set at 73F. In the heat of Abilene, that was simply not comfortable. We contacted the host to let her know we were having trouble with the temperature. While we were away, the host came to the property and later messaged us saying that the A/C needed an air filter change and that they did not have access to a ladder to change it and did not address the temperature. We contacted the host again because the property was still hot and explained that the thermostat was locked, which prevented us from lowering the temperature. The host tried to explain that the number we were attempting to set it to in the 60s was supposedly the temperature of the room rather than the temperature we were trying to set the thermostat to. We were also told that the room was cooler than the outside temperature. Regardless, the fact remained that we were uncomfortable and unable to control the A/C ourselves. We ended up having to use fans just to stay cool. Ironically, on the very last morning, shortly before checkout, the temperature was finally lowered remotely to 70F. That made it clear that the temperature could be adjusted remotely, but unfortunately this was not done when we actually needed it during our stay.
