The space
DESIGNED based on what worked for us traveling the world with for both work and family fun.

INSIDE a historic cottage with modern, attractively designed interior
- A well-equipped kitchen with large fridge, new range, microwave, coffeemaker, seven seat table, lots of storage.
- Breakfast foods, snacks, condiments, lots of coffee & tea options, hot cocoa, plus all the utensils, dishware and pots and pans you'll need
- An antique clawfoot tub in the master bath; modern walk-in shower in the half bath. Both equipped with grab bars.
- 3 smart TVs (bring your own passwords, no cable or local TV)

SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS
- A comfortable king size memory foam bed in master bedroom
- 4 twin beds in upstairs cruise ship themed bedroom; note angled roof 6'3" maximum clearance
- 3 convertible couches for larger groups
- Pack n play crib on request

FREE FOR YOUR RECREATION NEEDS
- For young guests: swings, mini basketball hoop, tricycle, scooter & more.
- For adults: Stationary bike, bowflex machine and weights set
- Beach gear to borrow, including umbrellas, beach blankets, folding chairs, beach toys.

KAYAKS available for a fee to navigate our inland waterways
- Gazebo with fire pit for our rare cold nights

OUR COMMUNITY AND REGION
- Long Beach is a walkable, bikeable mid-size an ocean front city which welcomes people of all races, nationallies and sexual orientations.
- We are a convenient spot for visitors to So Cal's traditional tourist spots, with Disneyland to the east, Hollywood northwest and the vast expanse of So Cal oceanfront starting just a mile away.

GETTING TO LONG BEACH
- We highly recommend our local Long Beach airport, an easy 15 minute drive from your home away from home. Second best: John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana. We ENCOURAGE GUESTS to avoid crowded, slow-moving LAX if you can!

>You enjoy privacy plus as much advice or help as you need from a family that has learned what it means to be gracious hosts in our -reliant travel on three continents.
Other things to note
Diversity and tolerance are core values for our family and our Long Beach community. We welcome guests of all races, religions, nationalities and sexual orientations. We have raised four children here and your children will be welcomed.

BY BOOKING WITH US, YOU AGREE TO OUR RULES FOR A SAFE & RESTFUL STAY:
1) Third party bookings are not permitted, meaning that the person booking must actually be staying at the , and you must provide the names of all guests
2) Parties and gatherings with people not on the reservation are not permitted on the property and that your own group, out of respect for our neighbors, will observe outdoor quiet time from 10pm to 7am.
3) This is a strictly no smoking, no vaping property, including the yard. Violations will result in a $250 penalty and a requirement to leave immediately. (Two of our adult children have their own homes in another building sharing the same yard, and smoking is an important issue for them.)
4) You must let us know if you wish to bring a pet, as you will need to pay an extra fee and agree to our pet rules.

The host was very welcoming and our family had everythign they needed for a wonderful stay. We were so thankful for the games and extras supplied for our kiddos.

This is a wonderful cottage and we really enjoyed our stay. The cottage is an ADU behind a much larger home, and it shares the property with the larger home. it is completely fenced in which was really appreciated when toddler grand children visited. It is in a lovely area surrounded by 100 year old homes on quiet streets and only about a mile walk to the beach - which I did frequently. The unit was extremely clean and had many amenities. The kitchen was especially well stocked with everthing required to make a gourmet meal. The property owner was a very nice gentleman who was especially gracious to our grand children when they visited. My wife and I also enjoyed investigating Long Beach. There are good restaurants and miles of beach with paved walking and cycling paths.The only minor recommendation to future guest is really a nitpik and not really about the property. There is a parking place immediately behind the cottage, but the alley to get to it is narrow. We had a small car and it was tight to get down the alley. There is parking on the street that is a few more steps away, by may be necessary depending upon what you drive.

We had a great time! The small house had everything we needed. There was plenty of drawer space, room for all six of us, and the place was stocked with thoughtful essentials—from ibuprofen and coffee pods to Ziploc bags. Everything was clearly labeled and easy to find.Steve lives in the house in front and was quick to help when anything came up. We hope to return soon!The upstairs room has four beds—no bunk beds, which we really appreciated. The ceiling is a bit low, but even our 6-foot-tall kid made it work. The teens loved having their own charging stations, storage space, and TV upstairs, especially since it let them stay up late while the adults went to bed downstairs.Just a heads-up: parking is tight, which is pretty common in California. It would have been tough if we’d brought our usual XL SUV.I give this place a 10 out of 10. We all loved it here! Bonus: there are orange and persimmon trees right out front, and I loved picking fresh oranges every day.

Catherine’s Charming Cottage

Beautiful house! Perfectly clean, well stocked, nice beds, awesome kitchen, all the amenities, we would definitely return. The house is lovely, large, spacious, and very comfortable, with a wonderful yard. Parking is easy, right next to the house, and has a private, secure entrance. The neighborhood is really nice, close to everything, and very walkable. The beach is barely a 5 minute drive, and is less than a 2 mile walk. My parents are VERY particular about their beds, and were happy, comfortable, supported, and well rested the entire week. Amenities are above and beyond, with WiFi, large tvs, games, and electrical outlets galore. The kitchen is amazing! Abundant kitchen supplies, tools, utensils, and even snacks. Bathrooms were clean and accessible, even for 80 year olds. And to top it all off, the host is knowledgeable, friendly, and accessible. Excellent experience, we would give it 10 stars if possible!

Impeccable Property - wonderful stay

We stayed at dozens of VRBOs and have never seen a location so incredibly stocked. From the food drawer, to the medicine cabinet, to the fully furnished laundry, impeccably done. The attention to detail in every corner of the cottage is spotless. Fully remodeled with decorative tile, paint, fixtures, granite countertops, masterfully done. Beach amenities fully stocked. The upstairs loft of four beds is tight for someone tall but very doable with each bed having its own “privacy” so to speak for our teenagers with USB plugs and enough room to set aside clothes in cubbies separately. AC works really well downstairs and upstairs and water pressure is phenomenal. Every drawer labeled, every appliance stocked, ready to bake/cook/grill/meal prep for anything we needed for our two week stay. Brought our bikes and rode to the beach without hassle with the kids, little far for littles but a simple neighborhood trek. Host is warm and social, responsive to every request. The cottage is on the back part of the main house but doesn’t connect in any way with its own privacy and access, owner lives in main house but keeps to needed privacy. Overall an incredible stay and will come again.

Great Place for Families

Our stay was comfortable and we were so impressed with all the attention to detail. The house was decorated so well and everything was incredibly organized. We liked the smell of the soap and the quality of hair products. We appreciated the sound machine in the master bedroom. Everything was child proof and toys were provided, in the chance of toddlers. The outlets by the beds included USB ports. The loft upstairs had 4 twin beds for my teens and tweens, each with their own recessed lighting and electrical outlet. Drawers in the kitchen were stocked and laid out well, with labels on the outside of the drawers. Closet included velvet hangers, iron and small ironing board. The towels were oversized and so soft. I was truly impressed with how far the hosts had gone to make sure every need was met. My only heads up would be to ask about parking. If you have a very large vehicle like ours, it may be a tight fit.

Each room is designed in mind, drawing on the best of our experiences traveling in Europe, Africa and North America.

Hosts Catherine & Steve live in a separate house on the same large lot. We respond quickly to every guest inquiry or request for needed household supplies when that's needed and, at all other times, respect the privacy you will enjoy in your spacious home-away-from-home.

One of our daughters is an experienced babysitter sometimes available to look after guests' children for a reasonable fee
