Unfortunately, this guest did not have a positive stay due to her own lack of preparation and failure to read the property description. Our property is on a secluded cabin hillside with a steep driveway which requires an equipped AWD or 4WD vehicle for access-a fact which is documented multiple times. Said guest was not properly prepared with her vehicle choice and was unable to make it up the road in her vehicle and ultimately had to rent another property until the rest of her party arrived at a later time to assist her. We couldn’t give the guest a refund due to the late timing and guest error in failing to read basic instructions. The guest was angry with the situation and tried to get a refund through other avenues. She impressively made a significant effort to go through our property with a fine tooth comb and document everything she finds wrong structurally, cosmetically and in terms of cleanliness. Such avenues included physically moving furniture, removing linens from beds, and documenting single pieces of mice evidence. Remember, our property is in the middle of nature and despite baiting attempts and pest control measures, we are in pest territory and we occasionally have evidence of pests-more so with changing of the seasons. Surprisingly none of our other hundreds of guests have mentioned issues like this one particular guest complained about. No issues or concerns were communicated during her visit, all accusations were brought forth after her guests had spent their entire vacation time at our property. Her story and accusations have since changed several times and seem to get more elaborate as time goes on. VRBO and property managers have stayed in communication with her inconsistent claims. Documentation and evidence of services has been provided to VRBO but the fight goes on months after the original stay. It appears the negative comments are in retaliation rather than a genuine reflection of her experience. We take pride in providing accurate listings and clear communication, but this guest did not take responsibility for understanding the information provided and projected her own frustration onto our property. We would absolutely not rent to her again, nor recommend her to other renters.
