In response, when cancelling a stay at check-in through VRBO a guest is subject to the cancellation guidelines set forth long before arrival. You indicated your youngest daughter refused to stay and you left the premises. Therefore, as a courtesy, we elected to offer a refund. At the time of your arrival, you called and stated to our managers there were 3 palmetto bugs in the house, (1 dead) and 2 which scurried into a locked supply closet. Our property manager arrived within 10 minutes of your call and promptly killed one as it exited the closet, removed the dead one upstairs as well as sprayed the entire area for the remaining bug. Choosing to leave immediately is unfortunate for both parties, however, Florida is a tropical zone as many are aware and summertime heat and rainfall cause all bugs to seek shelter where and when they can. We strive to have the property bug free which is an ongoing task with quarterly interior and exterior pest control as well as constant personal monitoring. With that being said, we did offer a full refund for the inconvenience which you agreed to be paid outside of VRBO once the two-week review period for both parties had expired, thereby ensuring neither would take the opportunity to leave a bad review and negatively affect either of our ratings. If you had chosen to cancel thru VRBO, you would not have received any part of your stay other than the possible guest service fee which was paid. To our surprise, you took it upon yourself to break our agreement by contacting the (VRBO) site several times, stating our home was in "unsafe condition" as well as questioning our integrity in text messages throughout the week, even though we continually assured you a check would be mailed. Our customary procedure with guest arrivals is to perform a final "walk-thru" just hours prior to guest arrival to ensure a safe and clean home which was completed earlier in the afternoon. We have two properties for rent, are premier and super hosts and have excellent reviews before and after your scheduled stay which we pride ourselves on. The food in question on the dustpan was in fact hardened glue (not food) which was confirmed by our manager. Since we were out of town at the time of your stay, our managers immediately contacted us and sent pictures of the items in question where we all discussed a simple solution for a refund. It's unfortunate we both have the reviews for all to read and we trust this provides a clear picture of the facts as they played out, moreover, if you would have honored our agreement a check would be in hand at the time of this writing.
