With German and Haitian roots, the hosts have the good fortune and opportunity to travel to many parts of the world, including Europe, Asia, Central and South America, the Middle East, and all around the Caribbean.
With each travel opportunity, we take great care and deliberation to reject the tourist moniker, and ingratiate ourselves into the local community, making sure to experience, as much as practicable, what it’s like to live there.
Attorneys by trade, we have found our professional passions elsewhere, including environmental advocacy and policy, building and construction, the preservation of history, and now….Hospitality.
We are also extremely passionate about raising our three children, with whom we enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, skiing, tennis, and sailing.
In fact, before having kids, we maintained our own sailboat docked at the waterfront Torpedo Factory. One day, we invited some friends out for an afternoon pleasure cruise over to Fort Washington for lunch. On our return journey, a very large motor yacht cleared the bridge and forced us out of the lane in which we were traveling, over to one closer to the shoreline. To our horror, we hit the mast off the top of the bridge, snapping it in half.

The Parker-Gray House was built in 1888, although substantial renovations were completed in the 1940s to bring the house up to code for that period.
The antebellum neighborhood in which the house is located was originally named Uptown, and its total area spans 24 blocks, making it the largest historic African American neighborhood in Alexandria.
By 1870, with many African Americans migrating to Alexandria during and after the war, Uptown grew into a large neighborhood and was the birthplace of several noteworthy black churches. Additionally, the Parker-Gray historic district protects various other historic structures in Uptown.
Purchased from its five-decade owners in 2004, this historic townhome underwent a complete renovation, including sistering the 100+-year-old frame. Old newspapers, cooking supplies, and tools are just some of the fascinating artifacts buried within its walls during the renovation.
Although many of the homes in Old Town have undergone cosmetic renovations, Parker Gray Suites is one of the few to receive complete renovations. These bring it to today’s safety and comfort standards while maintaining its historical significance and charm.
