Village Lakehouse: Relaxing Getaway near the Beach

I unfortunately left this guest a 5-star review before receiving feedback from the guests who checked in immediately after her stay. During this guest’s stay, she asked whether her husband could smoke a cigar outside by the fire. I appreciated that she asked, as the property is a non-smoking home, and I agreed to allow it outside only. At checkout, my cleaners did not report noticing any smoke odor inside the home. However, the guests who stayed immediately afterward reported smelling smoke inside the property. As a host, I felt it was appropriate to reach out to this guest to better understand what may have happened and to give her an opportunity to share her perspective. I was not accusing her of smoking inside the home, as I cannot know for certain what occurred. Unfortunately, this guest became defensive during our conversation and denied that any smoking had taken place inside the home. She also expressed that she had never previously had a host not want her to return. I respect that she has her perspective, but I was simply trying to understand the situation based on the feedback I received from the subsequent guests. The rating this guest left for my property appears to reflect this interaction rather than her overall stay or the experience I strive to provide as a host. I believe my other guest reviews more accurately reflect my commitment to maintaining the property and providing a positive experience for my guests.
