The Oak Winds Cottage was amazing! The view was spectacular from the living room and the porch. The screened-in porch was a great touch! The home was well laid out and provided an enjoyable stay. The neighborhood was quiet which made this a great place to relax. I highly recommend this cottage!

Peaceful, lovely and close to the ferry

We were 2 miles from the ferry for Portsmouth Island which was the reason for our visit. We brought all of our meals to cook at the house and the kitchen was well stocked. We enjoyed sitting on the porch looking at the water in the evening. We will definitely stay again when we are in the area.

Anniversary stay

Very relaxing home. Beautiful views of water! Loved time sitting on swing and using the dock for feeding the seagulls and sun bathing. Enjoyed our time down east. Hope to visit again!

The house is in a very good location and its a very nice house. However, the first thing we saw when we drove up in the driveway were four full bags of the previous renters trash sitting in front of the garage door greeting us as we got out of our car! And they stayed there the whole length of our stay! On the front door step there's some brown looking gunk and I'll leave it to your imagination of what it is! It would make a lot of people turn around and leave! Yes you could walk around it but why didn't the cleaning service clean it up? We get inside and start putting stuff up and the freezer door handle comes off. The screened porch has a lot of screen missing so its unusable. And it's way too dirty anyway. Ten out of the eleven entry doors in the house will not lock at all! The wind would actually BLOW open a set of double doors leading from the dinning area to the screened porch! Anyone can just walk right in whenever they want too! The toilet handle was broke in the 2nd bath. Had to remove the lid to manually flush the toilet! There were no sheets on the beds in 2nd bedroom. Remote control to the tv in that bedroom was missing. Sand coverd the porch floor as you step out of the living room. Could not find a broom! Over all the interior of the house was pretty clean. The pillow cases and the washcloths looked grungy looking. Rental cost was 900 for three nights. Asked the owner for a two hundred dollar refund. Said no way. I don't think that was too much too ask????

Simply a great place.

My wife and I have stayed throughout the Beaufort/Harkers Island area over the years, and this "Down East" cottage is the best of the best! It is simplicity, privacy, and world-class views rolled into one. The property is built for relaxation. It has a beautiful covered dock, a screened-in porch for evening enjoyment, and a small beach area. Inside, you will find beautiful prints and artwork describing the "Down East" way of life. The open concept lets in plenty of light, and enhances views of the Core Sound. The furniture was very comfortable, and the cottage was very clean. If you want to get away from crowded condominiums, and traffic congestion, this is the place!

Nice get away, very peaceful... great star gazing and water views!!

We enjoyed our stay! The cottage is very private, enjoyed sitting on the porch with the water views. At night, stars and the moon were beautiful! Floated and sunbathed at the dock area during the day. The only negatives, the house has a lot of personal items in it. A little worried we would mess up a sentimental item. Learning some history of Linda and the cottage was interesting... it was almost like she was with us! It is a little drive from Beaufort to get there, but worth it. Baths and kitchen and furnishings could use a freshening up. But... overall a very nice, a little off the grid long weekend!!! We had a good time!

Down east NC was a first for us. The outside of the house is the best part. Dolphin watching from the dock was a favorite, even a family of sea otters. The refrigerator had a high heat alert and was at 55, broken freezer handle, and the toilet would not flush. There was trash from previous renters in the garage and outside. We improvised since the property manager said her contractor was on vacation as well. With some maintenance this place could be amazing.
