Property location offers a glimpse of local neighborhood while not far from attractions. Konbini and grocery stores are an easy walk away.The house is spacious, clean, and offers all the amenities required for a very comfortable stay. Large living room and dining room makes gathering feel like home.Having a washer & dryer was great to maintain clean clothes and to mitigate overpacking for the trip.Communication with host couldn't have gone any smoother.

The house is simply beautiful and very comfortable for our stay with 7 adults. A very good location and house was supplied with all amenities we needed. Highly recommend for a stay in Kyoto.

Truly unique and lovely spot, with a host who went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and welcome. Great ammenities and location as well - comfortabIe rooms and convenient laundry. I highly recommend Samurai Machiya should you visit Kyoto!

Great spot for a party of seven. Classic Villa and Kyoto nearby the train station. I would suggest this place for a traditional Japanese villa experience. I would say it’s a great location to see most of the city. Might find a difficult time finding it but be patient and you should be able to find it.

Great stay in Kyoto

This house was a comfortable and clean property. The feel is authentic. Located close to a train station for ease of transport. Great place to stay.

Family of 5 from the US and could not be more impressed! This place is Japan - it’s in the middle of a neighborhood in Kyoto, where the roads are the width of a car and the ally’s are the width of my arm span. You get old Japan with modern conveniences. It’s much larger than you can tell from pictures. It’s within 3 minute walk to restaurants, stores and anything else you would need. Couldn’t be happier with the host and the property - it was amazing!

Amazing house! Everyone loved it, and I found out after a friend of mine had stayed there, so the word is out on how great it is. Very comfortable for our group of two adults and four adult kids. We made breakfast every morning with food from the Fresco nearby, and the Indian and Udon noodle restaurants a few blocks away were really good! We would definently stay here again!

Lovely machia, brilliant location

A total joy to stay here. Brilliant location, it was so easy to travel around Kyoto. It has everything you need for a comfortable stay and we loved all the extras like Samurai Jim and the wedding kimono. Thank you

Our stay was very comfortable for two families, 9 guests in total. The kitchen was well appointed. Was a little tricky navigating to the residence with the taxi drop off location, but with some help from some locals we found it. Was a very lovely area, with a train station near by for handy travel into the Gion district. The temple just down the road was a hidden gem, not busy with tourists.

The place is as special as the beautiful photos! We chose this for the comfortable kitchen/dining/living area and the wonderful location, close to the train station, and it did not disappoint!. We had a lovely time! Thank you!

Lovely property with great location

Easy to find and just as described. Samurai Jim was a fun host LOL Area is quaint with 7-11 and Familymart close by. Station is a quick 5 minute walk. Had everything we needed.

Perfect place for Kyoto exploring

Tofukuji Machiya is a comfortable place to call home whilst exploring the beautiful city of Kyoto. The kitchen allowed us to eat in for several meals, which was great after long days walking. Akiko was a great host who quickly responded to all my enquires & helped book meals out. Loved our time at Tofukuji Machiya.

GREAT HOUSE, GREAT LOCATION

This is a lovely Japanese house that easily accomodated all 8 of us. The kitchen was fully equipped and had a lovely kitchen table to gather around. Terrific location near JR line. Great local restaurants an easy walk away. Bed rooms were lovely. We'd highly recommend this house.

Wonderful$

This home is an fun, quaint neighborhood with lots to do and only one stop from Gion or Kyoto Station. Outstanding decor, lots of space and wonderful vibe. Look no further, this is the place to stay! Large home that can easily accommodate up to 10 if needed.

An amazing place

The house was amazing exactly as promised online. Great kitchen, has a place for laundry and when my son left his wedding ring…they found a way to send it back. Amazing location to walk to a train or 7-11 or sushi and I took many morning walks to see shrines and historic sites.

Great Home, Location, and Phenomenal Hosts

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Machiya. The home was great, as expected. The most phenomenal aspect was amazing communications with Akiko ans Patrick! Anytime we asked for ideas or assistance, they were very responsive. Thanks for the wonderful experience.

A taste of living in Kyoto

My family enjoyed the sense of staying in an authentic Japanese home. The facilities, furnishings and neighborhood required adaptations, none of which were particularly onerous. The location is within walking distance of beautiful shrines, temples and parks. Recommended for physically active cultural explorers.

Enchanting Machiya

We had a wonderful stay at the Tofukuji Machiya. There was plenty of space for our family of seven. We were looking for a traditional Japanese living experience for our boys and this property was the perfect balance of tradition and modern conveniences. Great location, just a short walk to the local train station. Highly recommend this property!

This was an ideal location for my family of four, including teens. Everyone had their own space, with me in the traditional bedroom upstairs. Slept amazing every night. So quiet. We never cooked, but more than adequate to heat up leftovers and 7-11 food. Close to several great restaurants. We did ramen, Nepalese, and an Izakaya place, based on owner's guidebook. All about 5 mins walk, all good. Easy to get on train or bus within 5 mins walk. Tofukuji shrine is worth visiting, it is about 15-minute walk. 7-11 next door and grocery options within 5 to 10 mins walk. House was clean and comfy. Washer dryer was a welcome sight. Took tea in the traditional room with Samarai Jim. Pretty cool. Love that it's nestled in a neighborhood and you get to feel like you're really in Japan in an authentic way.

Wonderful stay in Kyoto

This home is a real gem and easily accommodated our large family. It is in a great location within walking distance of the Tofukuji station, and not far from Kyoto station either. It was a perfect home-base for our travels throughout the greater Kyoto area for the week. The owner (Akiko-san) was very supportive and accommodating too. The house is well cared for and we all enjoyed the traditional, artistic decor, and the modern conveniences. Highly recommend!

Incredible stay in Kyoto

The house is as good as you see it from the pictures. It is beautiful and comfortable and has all the amenities you could wish for. The location is also great - we were able to walk in 20-30 minutes to all the locations we were interested in. We only used the local transportation system (for which you have a station 5 minutes away) when we traveled outside the city. Highly recommended!
