Tahoe Xmas Valley Cabin

Our cabin is located in scenic Christmas Valley. At the same time, it is close to the town for shopping, entertaining, eating out: 4 ml to Meyers, 8 ml to "Y", 14 ml to Stateline. The river runs in the back of the property

In the summer, here are lots of great biking and hiking (no driving required). It is close to southern superb sandy beaches of South Lake Tahoe, to the magnificent Echo Lakes, to Desolation Wilderness.

In the winter, it is perfectly situated for skiing at Kirkwood (24 miles), Heavenly (12 miles), and Sierra-at-Tahoe (13 miles). As well to enjoy your snowshoe trips, sledding and cross-country skiing right from the backyard!

Our house is very comfortable, great floor plan, roomy, and bright with large picture windows. Upper Truckee River runs in the back of our 2 acres property. One can see the river, the forest and the mountains from the inside of the house and while on the deck. Run down the slop to the benches of the river.

The kitchen is fully equipped (much appreciated by my past guests), the living room has a fireplace, nice size TV set, two comfortable coaches, and a beautiful cast iron coffee table. We have a spacious and very useful mudroom.

The deck overlooks the river and offers great mountain views. On the deck you will find a hot tub (always professionally serviced right before your arrival) for you to appreciate it at the end of a joyful day, and a gas grill on the deck, for happy cooking with your friends.

We have a fast WiFi internet and smart LG TV set.

One car parking space is available in the garage, 3 more cars can be parked on the driveway.

Starting in 2024, after 20 years of excellent records of renting my house, the ELD county does not allow me any more renting my house for a period shorter than 31 days. Please contact me if we need to adjust the length of your stay to fit your plans. We can discuss it.

Please follow "no shoes indoors" rule. We have a large mudroom a spacious entry in the front. It's easy to leave/change your shoes there.
If your stay goes past Sunday, please take your so far generated trash to the outside container on Sunday evening anyway for Monday morning pickup.
Please do not park on the dirt. Park in the garage or the driveway. The driveway allows 4 cars in the summer and at least 3 in the winter.

A quiet adventure

Rachel has an amazing property that my wife and I have come to twice now. Has a great kitchen and grill outside, so we were able to cook wonderful meals! The deck has an amazing view and a great spacious hot tub to boot! Indoors is very clean and comfortable with plenty of space too. We WILL be coming back as often as possible. A private piece of forest paradise.

Family Weekend Celebration

This vacation home is spacious, well equipped, tastefully appointed, and designed for family fun. The hot tub on the deck is wonderful and the barbecue high quality. The kitchen is great to cook in and the rest of the house perfect. We celebrated my daughters 50 th bday with the grand kids 7 and11 , 2 sisters, husband and Nana all with our own beds and everyone happy. Tahoe is a busy place to stay. This rental is a true retreat yet close enough to be a part of the action is that’s your thing. For us we liked the wild backyard, the hikes and the views.

Amazing location for outdoor activities

Just spent 3 great days at Rachel's cabin. Went with 2 friends for our annual mountain bike trip. Cabin was clean and well stocked. Rachel made the process very easy. The location is great for spectacular riding and hiking straight out the door. Once we arrived we didn't touch our cars until it was time to leave! Will certainly be back.

R&R

We had a lovely stay at Rachel’s place. We stayed for a week with our teenage daughters and our dog. Everyone had a great time! There are so many hiking tails located close by the house, we did the Hawley grade hike, Round Hill hike (these are all walking distance from the house)and did Echo lake (we did the water taxi one way and hiked back) which was very enjoyable. . Plan to come back to backpack in the Desolation Wilderness someday. We went to Carson Pass and did the Winnemucca Lake Trail. We have never seen our dog so tired, looks like he was having a blast. We also did a few waterfall trails at Emerald Bay Park. The girls went kayaking one day. Love love Emerald Bay. Tried to go at night to see the Milky Way but guess will need to come back another day. The house is very clean, conveniently located to major hiking trails. There is a grocery store close by. My younger daughter loved to go by the river which flows behind the house and look at the beaver dams, though she was a bit sad that she couldn’t spot a single beaver. We enjoyed the hot tub a few days, we certainly are planning on coming back in the fall and winter. What would be nice is to have a hammock in your back patio. I might never leave your place. Overall a very nice relaxing vacation and we even saw a bear crossing the road. Thank you!!!

Secluded and peaceful

The property is great and the neighbors are not too close. Very clean and secluded. Easy to find and the check in process was easy too. The only draw back are all the beds. They were hard as a rock. If the owner put more money on the beds it would be a perfect place to stay.

Great cabin

Red Dog Cabin was a relaxing and beautiful get away for us. Our dog loved the cabin and the surrounding area. Rachel was the perfect host and she had to help us a lot. The art work in the cabin is beautiful.

Great home on the edge of the forest

My family really enjoyed our stay at Rachel’s home in Tahoe. The property sits next to the national forest with a river running through it. Kitchen was well stocked and the place felt like home with Netflix, jacuzzi, and access to miles of trails right out the front door. Master suite bedding was plush and cozy as you could hope. Check in/out was a breeze and Rachel was an excellent host; checking in at arrival and departure time but allowing us autonomy to make ourselves at home. I even left a pair of yoga pants in the wash that she found and mailed back to me. Can’t say that’s ever happened before - left items are generally as good as gone. Highly recommend a stay here.

Great House

This was a great house for a Thanksgiving get away. Beautiful location not far from the village or the slopes. The house had everything you needed and was very clean. Well equipped kitchen. Definitely would stay there again.

Early Thanksgiving Celebration

We absolutely love staying here and the location is wonderful in any season. We will be back and so appreciate the warmth of the home. We were three generations and our grandkids loved playing in the snow and going in our nature walks. Well stocked home.

Delightful Mountain Retreat

Red Dog Cabin provided a much needed, easy-going getaway. We loved that it was dog-friendly and provided plenty of space for our family to spread out. There were lots of hiking opportunities nearby. Rachel was very approachable and accessible.

Christmas Valley full of grace and peace

We have stayed her previously and will be back. We love the deck and the location. Well stocked kitchen and off the beaten path from the congestion of SLT. Best of both worlds, the beauty of Tahoe without a touristy feel.

Lovely house in the woods

Review: 5 adults and a baby- This home in the woods was beautiful! The hot tub was a plus, and the views of the mountains behind the house were so relaxing. The home felt comfortable, had everything you needed, and the owner was very wonderful! I would definitely come back and recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing weekend.

One of our best vacation

We had amazing time at the cabin. Absolutely everything we needed and wished for was there and all was excellently communicated by Rachel. The house is in a great location walk distance to trailheads, many places to explore on the river and just about 10minutes drive to a grocery store. Beautiful view from the deck. House was perfectly clean, kitchen fully equipped. We have many many great memories. We highly recommend. Thank you Rachel! Alexa & Räm

Family Retreat

If Red Dog Cabin is available for your dates, look no further as you will not find a better stay. The description of the cabin is spot on but upon arriving we found the location even better than we imagined. Very excited to call Red Dog Cabin our 'go to' cabin in the Tahoe woods!

quite location

Very nice walks through the forest and access to the river. This area of the river for fishing was fun but let it be known that fish are only about 7 inch size unless you make it the lakes. the views are great and peaceful location. Thanks for the accommodation

Perfect getaway for the family

Everything about this rental was as advertised. The house is well-stocked, clean and comfortable. The location is beautiful and quiet, and Rachel is a thoughtful and responsive host. Our family has such a relaxing time here! We would definitely return...perhaps in the winter next time!!

My name is Rachel and I live the Bay Area, CA.
I am a sculptor. I love traveling, gardening, biking, hiking, and I really enjoy sharing our beautiful home in Tahoe with our friends and guests.

Derfor valgte værten dette overnatningssted

We love our house in Tahoe. It is a very spacious home built on a 2 acres lot, surrounded by the mountains and the US National Forest. South Upper Truckee River runs though our property.
The location is wonderful! It takes only 20 min getting to everything one would love to do in Tahoe: getting to a couple of ski resorts, to Lake Tahoe, to Stateline casinos, to hiking trails (many trails accessible with no driving at all).
This is our second home and we love coming here. We recently did lots of major remodeling: completely remodeled the bathrooms, got all new kitchen appliances, painted inside/outside, got new furniture, new mattresses, rebuilt the deck, and got a new spa. We made the house very comfortable for ourselves and our guest.

Derfor er dette overnatningssted unikt

We have a Water Filter system, installed in the garage, to reduce coloration in our water from the well. Every 3 days at noon it flushes the sediment into the drain. It creates a flushing sound in the master bathroom for about an hour.
My apologies for this inconvenience but there is no other way for the filter system to function and we badly need one.

In the winter, sledding and snowshoeing can be done in the back of the house. Heavenly, Sierra-at-Tahoe, and Kirkwood are the closest ski resorts.
The Winter season lease is also available.

In the summer, if you like hiking, you can go on either short or very long hikes right out of the house (no driving). It is the same when it comes to biking. The beautiful Lake Tahoe Southern shore beaches are within a short 20-min drive.
