Enjoy the perfect luxurious rental that is literally steps to one of the cleanest rivers in the US, Smith River. Our Villa is located above the Crescent City fog bank by roughly six miles, with inland climate, located near the Smith River and steps away from Jedediah Smith State Park. Completely renovated with all the amenities of home: WiF, BBQ, hot tub, two large master suites, and sofa sleeper in living room. Pick your own fresh tomatoes and veggies from the yard. Enjoy our complimentary cruiser bikes, stand up paddle board, kayaks, and water toys.

Very clean. The house has a nice layout for two couples. Right down the road from the redwood park. Convenient to Cresent City for dining etc. Wonderful place to stay!

This is a super nice little place to stay when you are in the area. Not too far from town, but you still feel like you’re in the trees. The house is very comfortable, especially the beds. We really enjoyed the firepit and hot tub in the backyard. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip.

This place is worth more than 10 stars!! Cute, cozy and sparkling clean. It was perfect for 3 adults and 2 fur babies! We enjoyed the yard with plenty of shade and privacy from neighbors, and it was such a great bonus to have fresh fruit that we could pick and eat!! Having a paddle board and kayaks was perfect for floating around the river that is less than 5 minutes away! The location is perfect and absolutely beautiful!! We would 100% stay here again!!

The parking in front of the house enters directly to Highway 197 which is quite busy. It was difficult and a bit scary to back up into the street to leave. Or back into the driveway so we did not have to back out to leave. Otherwise the property was perfect, quiet and the s’more’s setup was a nice touch. Thank you so much

If you’re looking for the perfect base camp to explore the Redwoods, this is it. The hosts were incredible, friendly, responsive, and genuinely welcoming. The home was exceptionally clean, the beds were very comfortable, and every detail made our stay enjoyable. We especially appreciated the thoughtful s’mores kit, which was the perfect way to unwind around the fire after a day of exploring. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

This place was recently remodeled and done very nicely. The finishes were great. Our son was interested in taking some water toys to the river but we had no way to haul them since we were in a car.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Villa Au Contraire! The property was clean and well-appointed with everything we needed and things we didn’t know we needed, like the thoughtful s’mores kit! Conveniently located near Hiouchi and a short, scenic drive to Crescent City. The only critique I have is there are not TV’s in the bedrooms; while not a big deal to some, I enjoy falling asleep to the noise of the TV. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would stay here again.

This is one of the best vacation rentals I’ve ever had. Absolutely lovely property, perfect for exploring the northern redwoods. The kitchen had every single thing anyone might need. The outdoor fireplace and grilling pavilion was awesome! I honestly cannot say enough good things about Villa Au Contraire.

The kitchen was set up so you could fix anything and the place was nice and clean. We did enjoy the hot tub and the fire pit too. It had a nice size fridge and freezer, washer, dryer and dishwasher. There were games and books too. I really enjoyed myself and I would definitely do it again. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to stay there!

I loved the aesthetic, cleanliness, quality, and variety of housewares. The mattresses, sofa and chairs are comfy too. What we loved the most was the kayaks, and inter tubes, we went down to the river twice and enjoyed it so much. The fireplace and hot tub was also a cherry on top. The shower water pressure was nice too. Water was filtered for the house so we drank sink water and it was good. We were happy to have s’mores supplied too! What a warm welcome! There was cooking sprays, oils, and some seasonings. I recommend bringing what you need. I would use this location again because it has the kayaks, tubes, and bikes and had all the comforts I could need. Also there was a crab pot, we used hot dogs and caught several which we let go due to size.

We added one more night to our stay because of an issue with the next property on our trip. We were not sad we had to stay an extra day in paradise though. The home was so clean and the backyard is so peaceful. Thank you so much for a great experience!Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a getaway in the Redwoods.

We loved our time at this home! It was absolutely beautiful, spotless, and had everything we needed for our trip; from plenty of firewood to a stocked kitchen with all the utensils, pots, and pans. We spent most of our evenings around the fire pit, which was such a peaceful, private, and cozy spot. The owner was very communicative during our stay and our check in and out directions were easy to follow.The location couldn’t have been better, only about 10 minutes from Crescent City and around 30 minutes from Jedediah Smith. The drive through the towering redwoods was breathtaking every single time. They did have some nice outdoor activity equipment and folding chairs available that we did not use this time.This was our elopement and honeymoon, and the two bedrooms and bathrooms were perfect for getting ready separately. The weather couldn’t have been better, and we couldn’t have asked for a more relaxing, beautiful place to stay.We will definitely be back and we highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a quiet retreat near the redwoods!

Where do I start? We were greeted with a basket with s'more supplies and a fire already set up and just needed us to light it. House was immaculate, and plenty of good quality linens. Towels for the hot tub and for the shower which was hot, which is a relief, since I hate running out of towels and using same ones for hot tub. Kitchen was shocked with all appliances, dishes, pots, pans, coffee maker was a single cup and full pot combo so bring your favorite coffee. We picked oranges and lemons in the front yard for our cocktails enjoyed by the fire pit, did I mention the wood? They left us enough wood to last for days. Along with fire starters and such! Water in both bathrooms was hot. Wifi was strong and easy to get on. It was too cold to use the stuff in garage but when I come back I am definitely using the bikes, wagon, kayak, and beach equipment available. And they had a pack and play and some sort of high chair available. And board games in the cabinet. The whole house was available, no weird locked rooms. We felt welcome and would definitely book again. Our host recommended two places to eat in town -both of them spot on and one I watched over 50 plus seals and sea lions while I enjoyed a very good fish and chips! One last thing I really liked was the local maps, books and local spots, all in the welcome basket which in the Redwood Forest was a game changer for us. Thank you for excellent time. We will be back!

This immaculate home had everything we could ask for. Beautiful interior upgrades and the back yard with firepit was great for relaxing while watching our pups play. Hosts were awesome....We will gladly stay here again!

The property is amazing! Great location to explore the Redwoods. The hosts went out of their way to make us feel welcome and added lots of nice touches like the fire pit loaded and ready and a s’mores kit. The hot tub and backyard is very relaxing and a great place to hang out. We had a fabulous experience !

We had a fantastic stay! The location was perfect—close to great hiking trails and the river, making it easy to enjoy the outdoors. The home was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped. We especially loved the spacious backyard, which provided plenty of room to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The backyard fireplace was a wonderful bonus and made for cozy evenings under the stars. Overall, a great place to unwind, and we would happily stay here again. Highly recommended!
