We have used VRBO for many vacations, and this was our first experience like this.Pros: The home was very clean, in a quiet neighborhood, and the host was extremely prompt and responsive. We appreciated the private parking, great location, beautiful yard, and nice backyard pool.Cons: Our biggest surprise was arriving to find that the host lives in a portion of the house. We have rented entire homes through VRBO many times and have never experienced this. We booked this property for a private anniversary weekend, so the lack of privacy was disappointing.I chose this home specifically for the backyard and was looking forward to enjoying the indoor/outdoor space. Unfortunately, the host’s living area provides the direct access to the backyard, so we had to exit through the front door, walk around the house, and enter through a side gate to use the pool. The host’s windows also face the pool, which made us uncomfortable and as though we were being watched. I also found it very strange that we were only able to use the pool between 9am-9pm.We love VRBO because it offers the privacy and comfort of a home rather than a hotel. Unfortunately, this stay did not feel private. I’m glad we only planned a short trip and didn’t bring our kids. Finally, the home is very dated. The furnishings and décor feel like the 1990s, with very little appearing to have been updated. Overall, the property was quiet and clean, but the lack of privacy made this stay less enjoyable.
