Hi, I’m Shelly O’Rourke! I visited Wilmington on vacation nearly 40 years ago, and I loved it so much that I never left! I adore this city and my house and I enjoy sharing with others what’s great about my town, from historic downtown to the beaches and parks. I’m excited to share it with visitors from all over the world.
When I’m not hosting, I enjoy travelling, cooking, and (of course) exploring Wilmington. Life is about creating memorable experiences, whether it’s a peaceful morning with coffee on the porch, an adventurous day exploring the local sights, or an evening with good friends. As a host, I love helping others create those moments here in my home. I designed the layout of our home and renovated it to provide a modern, luxury home within a historic structure and a walkable downtown environment.
I truly enjoy meeting people and sharing the magic of this place. It’s rewarding to hear that a guest had a wonderful stay, whether it’s because they found the perfect lunch spot I recommended, enjoyed an evening stroll on the riverwalk, or simply loved the quiet escape my home offers. I’ve put a lot of care into making my space comfortable, welcoming, and full of little touches to make you feel at home.
For me, hosting is about more than just providing a place to stay—it’s about creating a space where guests can relax, connect, and make lasting memories. A home isn’t just a collection of beds, it’s a place full of life and for good living. Our prime location in the heart of Historic Downtown Wilmington is just a short stroll from the 1.75-mile Riverwalk along the scenic Cape Fear River. Historic Downtown is a vibrant hub featuring dozens of restaurants, breweries, charming local shops, cafes, art galleries, museums like the Bellamy Mansion, stunning river views, and historic homes.
Downtown Wilmington is highly walkable, with several distinct neighborhoods easily accessible on foot or a very short drive. Explore the Water and Front Streets, artsy Castle Street, the Northside Marina, the eclectic Brooklyn Arts District, the Cargo District (literally made of cargo containers), and the bustling South Front District, or our new Sodapop District.
Immerse yourself in Wilmington's rich cultural scene, offering a diverse array of museums, theaters, and live music venues. Catch regional and touring theater performances at the stunning 19th-century Thalian Hall, or explore contemporary and historic art at the Cameron Art Museum.
For beach lovers, we're conveniently located about 20 minutes from Wrightsville Beach and approximately 25 minutes from Pleasure Island beaches, including Carolina Beach, Kure, and Fort Fisher.
Just across the bridge, don't miss the USS North Carolina Battleship, a World War II vessel, a must-visit floating museum, and a beloved local attraction. Our downtown location also provides easy access to the Brunswick County Beaches and towns such as Oak Island, Southport, and Ocean Isle Beach.
Seeking tranquility? Airlie Gardens offers a serene escape, a lush paradise of vibrant blooms, majestic live oaks, and diverse wildlife, and Greenfield Lake lies just a short drive down our street (5th Ave). We can’t wait for you to experience and enjoy Wilmington as much as we do!

Our meticulously renovated 1921 home offers a unique blend of historic charm and modern luxury. We’ve carefully restored original features like the floors, windows, and doors, while updating all infrastructure for contemporary living. Unlike many rentals that prioritize quantity over quality, we’ve created a pleasant, livable space that feels like a cherished home, not just a place to sleep.
The professional kitchen is a chef’s dream, fully equipped for either intimate gatherings or family events. Its design allows for seclusion or effortless flow into the rest of the home.
You'll find six charming bedrooms, five of which boast en-suite bathrooms, including a unique hidden bedroom behind a first-floor bookcase.
Our home is a treasure trove of art, antiques, and decorative items, including antique taxidermy, curated over many decades and displayed on all three floors. We invite you to explore and appreciate them as much as we do!
For entertainment, discover our game closet on the second floor, near the front porch door. Musicians will delight in the array of instruments available throughout the house: drums and small instruments in the downstairs study, a piano in the front parlor, and acoustic guitars and an electric keyboard on the third floor. Feel free to play any of these instruments.
