Amazing place

We already can’t wait to go back. Lovely home, secluded setting, nice hiking. The kids and dog enjoyed themselves very much too.

4th of July Getaway

The cabin was very lovely, homey and nice. There seemed to be everything there that we needed. Thank you for letting us stay in your home.

cowgirl getaway

Myself and 6 cowgirl buddies spent a week end in this beautiful historic chalet. Owners Mike and Kiyoe were more than accomodating ,and let us bring our 7 horses to keep in their 2 acre fenced enclosure. We all had a great time exploring the nearby trails and relaxing in the jacuzzi after a day in the saddle . Great fun,great place!! Hope to go again for the fall colors !!

Family Fun

My husband, two kids, and two dogs stayed at the Chalet over a long weekend, and absolutely loved every aspect of the cabin, the location, and the owner's hospitality. The cabin is quaint and spacious, very clean and very comfortable. The master bedroom's queen bed was super comfy, and the kids loved the double and twin bunks in the second bedroom. They had plenty of space to spread out. The property is beautiful and peaceful, backing up to national forest and hiking trails. The owners were exceptional hostesses. Kiyoe allowed my kids to help her gather eggs from her hens, and the cabin was provided with bagels, fruit, milk, and juice. It was an amazing trip for the whole family, and we cannot wait to go back again!

Great cabin, amazing host and incredible snow!

Kiyoe was an amazing host to our 5 year old twins: came by ever morning and took them with her to feed the chickens! When we arrived Kiyoe showed us the spacious cabin and then we took some time to explore. We eventually found the tasty homemade cookies she left and fresh bagels, something you don't often find at a home rental. The week we were there it snowed 3ft so if you plan on coming up make sure you have chains or a good 4 WD. Kiyoe will makes sure her driveway is plowed but you need to also make sure g lane is plowed otherwise you might be stuck. But, it doesn't matter b/c there it's kind of cool to be stuck in a place like this :) We will be back!

Pros AND Cons

Pros: Beautifully built cabin, Nice and Quiet area, easy check in process, very roomy and spacious cabin, Hot tub access. Cons: Spiderwebs in every room of the house, appliances are very old, very old pots and pans to use and they look like they are rusting(sketchy if you use these), cabinets coming unhinged, overall the kitchen needs a whole remodel. Hot tub jets did not work and it was a bit of a walk to the hot tub with no clear pathway. My main concern was the way they had electrical hooked up in the cabin, there were extension cords plugged into extension cords plugged into the wall as well as every outlet on all the extension cords occupied(Piggy backing is a no no)…This is VERY VERY CONCERNING for me because it’s a MAJOR FIRE HAZARD. You just want to keep your guest safe for their stay. I do appreciate you letting us rent this cabin for the weekend. Hope you take the cons above and fix something’s for future guest to fully enjoy their stay.

We have no idea what this complaint is about. The guests did not contact us during their stay. Here are reviews by non-VRBO guests before and after this booking: “Nice quiet place to get away. Really enjoyed my stay. This is pretty large place. They had a list of instructions that made it so much easier to get to your vacation without having to wonder about the do’s and don’t.” “We adore this cabin! We’ve stayed twice now and plan on coming back. Such a nice property, and Mike is super helpful with any questions! Thank you!“ “Place was amazing.” “ As advertised and a great location away from the busyness of Big Bear Lake yet close enough to drive in for lunch. The hillside behind was awesome for sledding so we were happy it had snowed recently. Mike is a great host and very responsive.”

AVOID.

All kitchen appliances minus the dishwasher had grease to the point of blackening on the inside. A pot of water was left on the stove top upon arrival. When one of us tried turn the stove on, the knob felt loose and effort was needed to turn on. We turned the heater on, and it took really long to warm up inside. The white vents were also blackened with dust. The vent on the bottom in the hallway to the left of the entrance was only partially up. The smoke detector was hanging by the wires. Under the smoke detector was the piano/organ. It caught our attention, and we started playing the keys. One of us wanted to see what the inside looked like, and we found what looked like a rats or mice nest. We went into the bedrooms after. The room with 3 beds still had dog fur. We opened the closet to see if we can even put our stuff away, and we found 2 mattresses and sheets thrown into it. Not folded. It fell out a bit when we opened the doors. The little office has week floors and tile by the window and lamp. The other bedroom was the cleanest, but the bed was hard as bricks. Not my thing, but it was clean. Next to the door of the clean bedroom was the washer and “dryer” that was out of service. There’s more to complain about, but those were the things that made us feel uncomfortable, unsafe, and in disgust. We checked in at 3:56 pm and left at approximately 7:30 pm to check in at the motel 6 close by since it was too dark to drive back to our homes and all of us were already too tired from the day. The communication was great when we were checking in. However, when we made the owners aware of the environment, responses were delayed and a bit weird. When we told her about the dryer’s “warning: do not use” sign, her response was “why do you need the dryer?” Her solution to the situation was to send a cleaner after he got off work. There’s more to add and show, but I would not recommend this location at all.

This is a older home with with older appliances.

Upon arriving to the house there was no heat during a snowstorm luckly the owner had the heat fixed the next day for us And provided reimbursement for the inconvenience. However the home was a bit outdated the appliances were working but quite old. There was mismatch bedding mismatched towels. Lots of power chords for everything that was plugged in. This home would be hard to call toddler friendly lots of things for a kid to get hurt on inside and outside. There was lots of space very very spacious place. The Jacuzzi was there however it is not a private Jacuzzi it is shared with the property. The location was good the property was nice. The only other thing I could recommend would be to bring your own you're own plastic wear for dishes if you have children because all they have is mismatched old glass dishes. This owner was very nice and accommodating. With a few upgrades this could be 5 stars.

Secluded Get Away

Loved the location, very secluded. Large rooms with a spa in the back. The trees in the back with the wind rushing through them was what I was looking for and we were lucky to have thunder with some rain. The trails in the back were very nice with my dog.

Rustic Treasure

This was the second time our family has stayed at the chalet. The house is roomy with plenty of space to spread out and also to hang out together. The house has everything you need, but we really came for the location. Backed into the national forest, all you hear is the wind in the trees and all the birds. There are trails right outside the back door for hiking. It is peaceful and beautiful and we can’t wait to go back again!

Large, one-story cabin with vintage charm

This is a great cabin to stay in, but there were a few drawbacks. Highlights: kids play area outside, hot tub outside, and spacious interior. Responsive and helpful owner. Downsides: not sure about the cleaning - lots of pet hair, missing top sheet on one bed, and toilet paper already out in one bathroom when we arrived. Also, it’s dark inside at night, even with the lights turned on, and a little musty. Otherwise, solid place to stay - we enjoyed our stay overall.

Big Windows

Loved our stay here. House was cozy and had lots of windows to gaze out on the beautiful nature surroundings. Also had paths to trails literally right out the front and back doors. Definitely would return!

Incredible Hosts and Easy Place to Stay

The hosts are wonderful. Kiyoe saw we have daughters and brought over a dollhouse for the girls to play with. She also brought the kids out to the chicken coop to feed the chickens which they loved. She provided awesome cookies, fruit and fresh eggs for our stay. It was amazing!!! The chalet is comfortable as it is a lived in place. It makes you feel comfortable because you don't have to stress about your kids or the dog. You can tell that things are used for their purpose and maintained for that purpose. Unlike other vacation rentals in the Big Bear area, and we have stayed in half a dozen over the last 6 years, the outdoors is literally right outside the backdoor. You don't have to go walking down the street to get to hiking/horse trails. This is a great place to stay. Thank you to Kiyoe and Mike.

Weekend Adventure

The cabin was wonderful. It was spacey enough for all 8 of my friends to stay could have slept more. The jacuzzi was very nice to go sit in. If it had been colder however the walk to the jacuzzi wouldn't have been very fun. A few of my friends really enjoyed the trails around the cabin. They went on a hike everyday. The property was beautiful. The house had a really nice porch to sit on in the mornings. We went and talked to the dogs next door one morning. The only complaint we had with the place was that there wasn't enough cooking supplies. We needed things like thongs, pans, dish clothes, and some silverware.

Jessica, so glad you and your friends enjoyed your weekend. Gosh, I'm sure Kay wishes she'd known you were wishing for more kitchen supplies. We've got a really big inventory in the Chalet, but there are a lot of drawers and I guess it takes time to know where to look! ;)
