VILLA MAYA was Fantastic for our family of five...

Villa Maya was a fantastic home for our family in Cancun!! We love the central location and convenience as well as the quiet neighborhood which made us feel like we were living like the locals. Transfers to and from the airport were simple and easy. When we arrived, Mattias was perfect with his timing in greeting us upon arrival and showing us around his beautiful home. All the amenities of home were available to us, and this made our stay more comfortable and economical by cooking meals at Villa Maya. Of course, there are many great restaurants within short walking distance--and the prices are very reasonable. Even though the water supply in the area is fine for cooking, bathing, and drinking; Mattias also provided bottled water for the home as an additional convenience at no charge:) Great customer service! Mattias and his wife were always available and just a phone call away. Internet, cell phone, and data service worked very well. The home is tastefully decorated, clean, and in a quiet & safe neighborhood. Villa Maya also has access to VW Beetle rental cars for added convenience at a very reasonable rate. His VW Beetles are in great shape and you will be able to drive around like a local. The beaches, highways, gas stations, and entertainment areas are all first class in Cancun and the Yucatan. We did get a traffic ticket by approaching a highway checkpoint going a little bit above the speed limit. We probably would not have gotten pulled over if we were going slower. They asked us to pay the ticket on the spot (about $40) :( We paid that and didn't really worry about it very much--we never had any other problems even though we drove all over the place and went through many more checkpoints on the highway after that. So, don't let driving in Mexico worry you too much:) It was as safe as driving in the U.S. We drove to most of the area attractions to include Chichen Itza and the equally impressive Uxmal ancient Maya city. Don't miss the cenotes (sink holes in the earth with clear, blue water for swimming or diving). All of the beaches are great!! We look forward to another stay with Villa Maya!! The weather was perfect during our stay in February 2013…Our family will be back again, and the next time we are bringing Grandmother:)) Gracias--The Rose Family from Seattle, WA, USA

Excellent place to stay!!

It's an amazing home and it was very well equipped. It's close to everything in Cancun! Amelia was very nice answering all of our questions. The communication with Matthias was also excellent! Home it's beautiful and definitely next time we go to Cancun this would be our home:-) we also met the owner Gemima which it's also a very nice lady. Overall I give this place a 5 star. Thanks!!!!!

Great and Safe

Our family of 6 enjoyed the property. It was safe quite and priced correctly. It could have some light bulbs replaced, AC on the main floor did not go below 26 degree C, some towels, and dish soap, but that was minor. Very clean and safe.

Ruhige und zentrale Lage mitten in Cancun

Wir waren zu viert in der Villa Maya und hatten das ganze Haus gemietet. Es war sauber und gepflegt und wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Matthias ist super nett und hat sich sehr um uns gekümmert. Gute Tipps für Ausflüge bekommen. Und als mal die Klimaanlage gestreikt hat, ist er sofort gekommen und hat diese ausgetauscht. Obwohl mitten in Cancun, haben wir uns sehr sicher gefühlt. Wir empfehlen dieses Feriendomizil auf jeden Fall weiter.

May/June trip

I stayed here for almost 3 weeks and also rented a car from Mattias. It was a great experience!! His employee, Amelia, picked us up from the airport and took us to the house where our rental car was. They were both very helpful, nice and professional. I stayed there with two young boys (2, 4). The drive to downtown was close which worked well for us as my boys went downtown everyday for preschool (mainly to practice the Spanish they're learning). The neighborhood is a typical Mexican neighborhood which worked well for us as we enjoy the cultural experience. We hope to return soon!

Beautiful villa in the heart of Cancun!

The property was very well-kept, spacious and pretty! We loved the decor, the rooftop patio and the back patio. It is in a very safe area with some great restaurants around the corner. We never felt unsafe and often were walking alone in the middle of the night. Taxi drivers had a hard time finding the house but we also didn't speak Spanish. We eventually would just ask them to take us to Wal-mart and walked home. The owner is very quick to respond and is very helpful. We truly had a great experience. Definitely would stay here again... it was perfect for us 9 college girls from the United State. :)

Ok

Safe location close to Walmart and small shopping mall. Our family would have been better off staying outside the city much closer to activities like cenotes, Tulum, Chichen Itza, snorkeling, and beach access in Playa Del Carmen. One night ran out of water so no showers, toilet, or anything. Most houses had cisterns on roof so assume it wasn't filled. Upstairs renters also did not have water until next day. Paid extra for air conditioning without realizing there are only two wall mounted space units in bedrooms, not whole house air conditioning. Only sheets on bed. No other covering.

Hola, It seems that you did have an issue with the location rather then the house or services you received. Our house is located in CANCUN like the name says, and not all the other Destinations you mention. Tulum is 119km , Chichen ITZA 178km and Playa del Carmen is 6o km from CANCUN,...and for beach access in Playa del Carmen you should have rented in Plaza del Carmen, not Cancun...where prices are more like triple than a Cancun Downtown rental. Next time make sure you inform yourself better on the location of the rental, and excursions you would like to do. And if you turn off the main switch of the general watersupply, of course you wont have water.

Great location and good neighborhood

We stayed for 3 weeks and enjoyed the downstairs apartment. Two other checking in and outs occurred in the upstairs apartment while we were there but we hardly knew anyone was there - very good insolation. The bus stop was close to take the bus down to the beach (about a 15-20 min ride depending on where you are going). The bus stop is just out In front of WalMart. And Walmart was 2 blocks walk with most everything we needed. The produce and meat & seafood departments are much better than you get in the states and prices are excellent. The neighborhood was quiet except for the sounds of children laughing and playing in the afternoon. Neighbors are very friendly. Be sure and not miss out on the fresh tortillas! The delivery man drives a motorcycle with an insulated box on the back full of warm fresh tortillas every day but Sunday.. They were the best we had ever had! 18 pesos a kilo! BTW, no GMO corn in Mexico so enjoy:). Mattias's assistant, Amalia, is responsive and helpful if you need cleaning or more blankets, etc. She's a very nice, hard working lady and did a great job cleaning for us during our stay (it's included in your rent). I loved that! She also drove us to and from the airport for a fee that Mattias arranged before we arrived. That was very helpful. It was a pleasure to get to know her and practice my broken Spanish. She was very patient with me:). This was our first trip to Cancun and we wouldn't hesitate to come back and stay at Mattias's home. He was so helpful, answering my questions and directing us here and there. I so appreciate the great communication. Thank you, Mattias. My husband also loved the character and comfort of your home.

Hola Mattias y Familia Con respecto a la estadia en tu casa y Villa Maya es amplia,limpia y en buena ubicacion... y nos gusto mucho. y la verdad te tenemos que agradecer yo y mi familia, por habernos brindado toda esa buena voluntad, no estuvimos en ningun momento temerosos a nada al contrario, una ves que le agarramos la mano a los carros, y taxis ya era como si fuera nuestra ciudad.- Aca en Rio Gallegos la temperatura es de 2 ºc, y esta lloviendo agua nieve.- Bueno muchos saludos a todos los tuyos y a vos Muchas Gracias, Hector

House is ok but some problems

Our experience with this house started off badly when the caretaker showed up 15 minutes late while we waited outside with all our luggage and I'm frantically calling a number that was on the site that was disconnected. Amalia the caretaker seems nice but I don't believe she's doing her job well because the first day in the house we found one air conditioner in a room did not work and when I told her she first tried to tell me I didn't pay for electricity(are u kidding me?)then she admitted that the technician was supposed to fix it the day before we arrived but he needed a part and he would be back tomorrow to fix it. That got fixed but then we found one light in a bathroom didn't work and then another bathroom light when out the next day and neither were fixed the whole week we were there. Also forget about using the washing machine that didn't work either and no surprise it never got fixed. On the website it mentions a beachclub we were allowed to use so I ask Amalia and, no surprise again, she has no clue what I'm talking about. It wasn't until the last day there I finally get an email response from the owner letting me know which hotel the beachclub is at. I do want to recommend the lady Sandra who handles all the tour packages, she was extremely helpful, came over 3 times to the house to make sure we were taken care of and gave us great prices on the packages. Sandra is intelligent, polite, knows the area very well and does her job extremely well. Other than all those above mentioned issues the house itself is not too bad, the upstairs terrace and the patio area downstairs are very nice and the location is very close to a Walmart and some nice restaurants.

We are just surprised (not to say amused) by the fact that your wife thought that our humble cleaning lady Amalia was her personal concierge , Bellboy and travelagent....she only is a Cleaning lady..not more not less. And since you didnt mention the house was dirty,..we assume she did an EXCELLENT job.. if you had questions on trips, restaurants, activities...why did you never sent me an email? Thats what we are therefore, you had Wifi in the hosue AND Whatsapp to communictaewith us during your stay...why didnt you? we encourage all future guests to contact us directly,..if any questions on Trips, Tours, Restaurants or maintenence issues arise...in order to assure everyone a nice experience.

I just love this property

Hello Me and my girls just returned back from our annual trip. I was very pleased with the house and what it had to offer. Amalia was very sweet and she helped us with anything we needed. I would recommend this house to anyone vacationing. I loved the neighborhood and there was a lot of places to eat and shop close by.

Genial als Ausgangspunkt für Kurzreisen

Wir waren jetzt schon 3 mal in der Villa Maya. Das erste mal um Cancun Stadt besser kennen zu lernen, danach haben wir Villa Maya 2013 und 20104 als Basis für unsere Rundreisen genutzt. Einkaufsmöglichkeiten in direkter Nähe, viele Restaurants und Freizeitmöglichkeiten zu Fuß zu erreichen. Toll und immer wieder gerne.

Clean. Spacious for 2 adults and 5 kids. Away from the typical touristy area. Great value.

Hallo Matthias, Our family of 7 (2 adults and 5 elementary age kids) spent four nights and rented the whole downstairs unit. Everything worked great and was clean. Being able to walk to the nearby Walmart (5-10 min walk) was a real plus for us. Mainly we bought food and water there, but also beach towels and minor household stuff. The long clothes line outside in the back of the condo was perfect for drying clothes or beach gear and having an in-unit washing machine was certainly handy. We chose not to rent a car and instead relied on a local driver, arranged ahead of time through Matthias, to pick us up at the airport and drop us at the condo. We used this same driver throughout our stay to visit various beaches, Tulum and Cenotes (sink holes). He also drove us back to the airport on our day of departure. Throughout our stay he was a valuable and trusted local resource to our family and steered us clear of tourist traps and crowded places. We truly enjoyed our stay at Villa Maya and can heartily recommend Matthias' as a conscientious owner who communicated and checked in with us before, during and after our trip to make sure all our needs were met. Villa Maya is ideal for those who prefer to stay a bit off the beaten path in a clean and simple home and plan/research their trip and activities ahead of time. To be a little more independent I might consider renting our own van next time but since we didn't plan/research our daily activities in detail before we arrived, having a local source/tour guide was invaluable and our kids really enjoyed him.

Excelente atencion e instalaciones

Queremos aprovechar este medio, para comentar nuestra experiencia durante la estadia en Cancun, dentro de las instalaciones de la casa. La experiencia fue maravillosa por multiples razones, la primera la atencion brindada no solo de forma electronica por parte del señor Mattias y su esposa, para la reservacion y confirmacion de nuestra estadia, sino la recibida al momento de la llegada y durante los dias de hospedaje, por la sra Amalia, no dejo absolutamente nada que desear, fue EXCELENTE. Con relacion a las instalaciones, todo es ordenado, pulcro, seguro y acojedor, un lugar definitivamente apropiado para tener comodidades y sentirse como en casa, asimismo, la ubicacion con la que cuenta, hace del lugar una opcion maravillosa para pasar los dias de disfrute, pues es espaciosa, y cercana a los dos supermercados mas grandes de la localidad, Soriana y Walmart. Indudablemente, le recomendamos a quienes deseen visitar Cancun, contactar los servicios que se ofrecen para el hospedaje en esta casa.

Buena Ubicación, Casa limpia y Excelente Atención

La atención proporcionada por el anfitrión, es realmente excelente. Muy atento y te informa de todo lo relacionado a la renta de la casa; además de que es formal, puntual y honesto. El lugar donde se ubica la casa, es excelente; ya que, hay varias plazas comerciales, tienditas, farmacias, gasolineras, lavanderías, y pequeños restaurantes. Además de que es es un fraccionamiento muy tranquilo y seguro. El aeropuerto internacional de Cancún, está a 20 min del lugar. La casa tiene lo necesario para una estancia agradable; sobre todo, si vienen en familia o con amigos. Lo mejor, es que te pueden contactar con servicios de tours. Además, por un costo adicional, te pueden cocinar. Nuestra estancia fue realmente agradable y placentera. Definitivamente volvería a Villa Maya con Mattias!!!

excellent rental place

Home away from home! Renting a summer house for a week, has been the best experience ever for me and my family. Large enough, fully furnished, great location, near major shopping and tourist attractions. Just comfort in all levels, incredible savings compared to a stay in a hotel. Internet and cable accessibility was a plus for my teenage grandsons. located in a nice and quiet neighborhood with lots of places to eat at a walking distance. Home is where Villa Maya is :)

We had a fantastic time at Villa Maya!! The house feels like a home and the owners are super friendly :D The location is also fantastic as you've got shops, banks, petrol stations etc just around the corner and even a Vegan Restaurant 10 minutes away. I would highly recommend this property :D

Top Unterkunft mitten in Cancun

Wir hatten die obere Etage der Villa Maya direkt nach der Traumunterkunft in El Cuyo, die auch von diesem Vermieter angeboten wird. Das Haus liegt zentral in Cancun, in einer gehobenen und ruhigen Lage. Sämtliche Orte sind von hier aus schnell zu erreichen (vorallendingen mit einem VW Käfer, der auch vom Vermieter angeboten wird). Die Wohnung ist sehr schön eingerichtet und sehr sauber. Eine kleine Küche enthält alles was man braucht. Sehr schön ist auch die Dachterasse, wo man nach einem sonnenreichen Tag, den Tag gemütlich ausklingen lassen kann. Sehr zu empfehlen ist der Vermieter Mattias. Wir haben sehr gute Tips und Infos bekommen und konnten jederzeit in Kontakt treten, wenn wir fragen hatten (mittels Handy das uns zur Verfügung gestellt wurde). So war z.B. der Toaster defekt und kaum haben wir das erwähnt, stand auch schon nachmittags ein neuer in der Wohnung. Ein anderes Mal hatte sich eine Biene im Türschloss eingenistet und innerhalb von 10 Minuten war Mattias mitsamt Familie vorort und hat sich um den Schlüsseldienst gekümmert. Also eine ganz klare Weiterempfehlung für die Unterkunft und für Mattias sowieso. SO müßte jeder Vermieter sein!

Hola nach Alemania, zuerstmal ein dickes Dankeschoen fuer die tolle Bewertung unserer Villa Maya in Cancun. Uns freuts , dass es euch in Hazienda del Cuyo am Strand in Yukatan und auch in unserer Villa Maya in Cancun so gut gefallen hat. Ja ja die Biene im Schluesselloch,...was fuer eine Aufregung das war... Auch ihr seid tolle Gaeste gewesen, und habt mit einem unserer Vw Kaefer zuerst Yukatan bereist und dann Cancun und die Riviera Maya erkundet. Hasta Luego aus Yukatan,..und lasst euch al wieder sehen! SO wie ihr muesste jeder Gast sein!

Super Unterkunft ohne wenn und aber! Sauber!

Diese Unterkunft ist mehr als zu empfehlen... die Lage: mitten in einem schönen Wohnviertel...alle Nachbarn nett, höflich und hilfsbereit...haben uns dort sehr wohl gefühlt auch mit unserer kleinen Tochter... von der Villa Maya de Cancun kann man problemlos alle Sehenswürdigkeiten, verschiedene Strände und Ausflugsziele ideal erreichen... der Vermieter: 1 mit Sternchen... mehr geht gar nicht... hat sich perfekt um alles gekümmert und sogar noch darüber hinaus... mehr als nur ein Vermieter ... der VW-Käfer: tolle Erfahrung, lustig und ideal für Cancun... dies ist eine ehrliche Bewertung!!! Toller Urlaub, dank Mathias und Familie

Great Place! Great People!

Hello Everybody, Would like to start this review by saying that Matthias and his family are really great, and helpful. They made our experience in cancun very easy. Staying at the villa maya was great! It was very clean, in a very quiet neighbourhood. I would recommend the villa Maya for travellers who want to experience the real cancun. Many great restaurants in cancun downtown and the villa maya was in a great location. We felt very safe and comfortable and recommend it for families, couples, or even the single traveller just wanting a great quiet spot. We rented the VW bug from Matthias and were really happy we did since having a car made exploring the area so much easier! We would recommend the villa maya for sure! Thank you again Matthias!!!

A Great Home Away From Home

A beautiful home! We stayed at Villa Maya with another couple and their daughter Nov. 22 thru Nov 29. The home is located in a quiet neighborhood. It has a well equiped kitchen, plenty of bathrooms (2 full and 1 half), laundry, wireless internet, a nice patio in the rear with a gate leading out to a small park with playground equipment, great for children. Much, much more comfortable than a hotel room. A very nice place to come home to and relax and chill out after a busy day. Within a couple blocks, there is a Walmart, Sorianas (a supermarket), banks and ATM's, a mall, and plenty of small restaurants to sample the local cuisine, if you like me, are into that. Taxi fare is only 30 to 50 pesos to the beach, restaurants, shopping, or anywhere in town ($2.50 to $4.00 US). We had a thoroughly enjoyable time and would highly recommend Villa Maya to anyone who not only wishes to experience Cancun, but also the local culture. Tim and Liz

Toller Aufenthalt mit 4 Kindern

Wir waren mit unseren Kindern 18/18/14/9 im August / September 2012 für drei Wochen in der Villa Maya Cancun. Wir haben uns sehr wohlgefühlt und hatten wirklich nette Vermieter. Wir hatten beide Wohnungen genommen, das Haus war für uns sechs Personen groß genug. Die räumliche Nähe zu zwei Supermärkten fanden wir gut, ebenso die anfänglich undurchsichtige Busverbindung die sich als sehr praktisch und kostengünstig herausstellte. Auch kommt man mit dem Taxi gut weg. Gut auch, dass im Haus kostenlos ein WLan Netz zur Verfügung stand. Die Gegend ist ruhig, zum Thema Sicherheit haben wir nicht anders gelebt wie zuhause. Man sieht zwar Polizei auf der Straße aber weder im Straßenverkehr noch in Einkaufzentren oder in der Stadt war man irgendwie rabiat oder musste man ein unsicheres Gefühl haben. Das Viertel ist auch nachts angehm ruhig. Sehr profitiert haben wir von Empfehlungen von Mattias der die Gegend sehr gut kennt. Wir waren in Valladollid, in Xcart, Cozumel, Chizen Itza, Ek Balam, an den Hotelstränden, sind mit Walhaien geschnorchelt und waren intensiv shoppen. Es gibt auch viele Restaurants, zu günstigen Preisen. Gekocht haben wir daher fast nie. Schade, dass die drei Wochen doch so schnell rum waren. Was nicht ging waren die mitgebrachten Kinderfilme auf CD/DVD wegen dem anderen Format im amerikanischen Einflußgebiet. Oben liefen die Filme auf den mitgebrachten CD‘s aber zumindest in Schwarzweiss. Die Unterstützung von Mattias vor Ort war schnell und unkompliziert. (Konkret : Es war mal das Gas alle, ich hatte einen Plattfuss, die Sicherung flog mal raus und wir fanden die Hauptsicherung draussen nicht, unseren vielen Frauen reichte die Standardaustattung an Handtüchern nicht ) Einmal die Woche kam eine gute Putzfrau, und Handtücher wurden alle 4 Tage gewechselt. In den Schlafzimmern ist eine Klimaanlage, es gibt auch in fast jedem Zimmer ein Deckenventilator. Die Bilder ensprechen den Gegebenheiten, das Gebiet dort ist allerdings dicht bebaut. Für Individualurlauber auch mit Kindern nur zu empfehlen.

Da wir ja selbst nur ca 1 km von Villa Maya entfernt wohnen, faellt es uns leicht unseren Gaesten zu helfen,oder Ihnen mit Rat und Tat zur Seite zu stehen,...und es ist sehr angenehm,..wenn jemand es auf deutsch tut,..so wie bei uns. FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE !!

Well let's see.....VERY COOL and GREAT HOST!!! This was our first experience rentinng privately and I can best sum up my stay in Cancun with Mattias by saying "I extended my stay in his apartment by an additional four night" for a total of 11 nights. Mattias and his wife have been great....VERY QUICK RESPONSE TO EMAIL..I MEAN VERY QUICK.(there is wifi connection that works at the apartment) Any small things things that came up he handled quickly ..He described his place exactly as it is...very cool and a steal for the price. But what he did not say that i can verify is that the block the property is located on is GREAT. VERY nice homes and nice people. Also there are servies..ie (WALMART, LAUNDRY MAT there is a gym around the corner near the OXOX which is like a 7-11 in the USA , MOVIE THEATER, internet cafe/long distance calling store around the corner.. AND PLACES TO EAT) ...i walked today and was again reminded how lucky we were to take a chance on Mattias and his family. The place is located in a middle class neighborhood on the fringe of the middle to upper middle class downtown area..near service areas where you find shops...jewelry stores, pharmacies..apartments, and everyday working people of Cancun. ( 10 min drive to Bonapak shops, Plaza America, Hotelzone)...safe area..and VERY VERY NICE AND HELPFUL NEIGHBORS who clearly like him and his family. The place has great running water with good pressure and really good AC. To be completely straight forward...what you see in the pictures is eactly what you get. My girlfriend and I stayed and I would return. If your comfortable in the city and want a more everyday life experience ...in a great apartment ..and still be able to get to the tourist areas...THIS IS A GREAT OPTION. I would also say ...we rented a car..made getting around easy and helped. Make sure you have cell phone or an exact meeting place and time like the airport customs area or a specific hotel lobby. We got off the plane with no cell phone and had to find an internet store to email Mattias to meet.Nothing to do with Mattias he provided the address; just a fyi because you take things for granted when you stay at a hotel that taxi's may know by name. This has been great and the experience we were looking for. Im headed to the roofdeck with Modelo. Addios!!

Haben uns bestens aufgehoben gefühlt

Nach unserer Ankunft auf Yucatán haben wir die erste Nacht in der Villa Maya (1. Stock) verbracht – gleich auf den ersten Blick sehr einladend und mit allen Annehmlichkeiten ausgestattet, die wir als europäische Gäste für einen kurzen - aber auch längeren - Aufenthalt zu schätzen wissen. Genial ist die Dachterrasse, da schmeckt das Frühstück noch besser… Einkäufe für Lebensmittel oder Essen gehen kann auch zu Fuß erledigt werden – das Haus befindet sich in unmittelbarer Nähe von Geschäften, und auch das Zentrum ist nicht wirklich weit weg. Die Unterkunft ist ideal als Basis für weitere „Unternehmungen“ in Cancun vorstellen (ruhige und sichere Gegend…), hatten aber bereits drei Wochen in El Cuyo im Norden Yucatáns in einem anderen Haus des Vermieters gebucht – und da war’s für uns paradiesisch-traumhaft, wollten ja auch bewusst weg vom Stadtleben ;-)

We will be back

This is what a tourist home should be, clean , centrally located with everything you could need from a couple to the whole extended family you will be comfortable and happy here. It's a short walk to shopping and if you have an adventurist spirit the cabs and local buses will take you anywhere in town.Add the car and you have the whole Yucatan at your feet from the hotel strip beaches to the ruins of Cichen Itza and every town and beach in-between. We never stopped discovering new and beautiful spots all around the Yucatan and Mayan coast for the whole 2 weeks we were there. Matthias and his family made us feel right at home and had helpful information to share with we 1st timers. I'm sure even seasoned travellers to the Yucatan would find useful hints and new locations to explore. We would recommend Casa Maya to anyone that wants to have a relaxing and safe place to stay while exploring the Mexico's beautiful Mayan coast.
