Relax with the whole family at this peaceful retreat. Tucked away right near the Saalfeld Fairy Grottoes and in the heart of the Thuringian Forest lies this charming little cottage. With an indescribable view of Saalfeld, you can treat yourself to a break from the stresses of everyday life here. A climbing frame and a playhouse let the kids run around and have fun without a care in the world. The wood-burning stove adds even more cozy charm to the house.
The first floor features a fully equipped, modern kitchen and an adjacent bathroom with a toilet. The living room, with its wood-burning stove, invites you to linger. Please note that we do not provide firewood. However, you’re welcome to bring your own wood to fully enjoy your evenings by the fireplace. Here, you can spend a cozy evening together playing the Wii or the board games provided, even on cloudy days. The office leads to the upper floor, which features three themed bedrooms. The family room features a double bed with a 3D TV and a loft bed. The Anchor Room, which impresses with its nautical decor, offers a single bed. In the VIP Lounge, you’ll find a double bed with a chill-out area in a purple theme.
Outside, a brick charcoal grill is available to our guests on the inviting terrace. Please remember to leave the grill clean after use. Seating and a canopy are provided (weather permitting) from April through September.
The little “Sonnenschein” house, the jungle gym, and the trampoline invite children to play and run around.
The steep driveway offers a quiet location, but driving on it in winter (in snow and ice) is at your own risk! Road salt and a snow shovel are provided.
BY THE WAY: The first Saalfelder Grottenfee spent many happy years in this cabin and wishes you a wonderful stay. If you look closely, you’ll also find a fairy-like greeting.
The fairy grottoes are a maximum of 10 minutes’ walk from the cabin. It’s also a maximum of 20 minutes’ walk to downtown.
There are many hiking trails right behind the accommodation, and the Thuringian Forest is also nearby. Other nearby attractions include: Hohenwarte Reservoir, SaaleMaxx, Morassina Show Mine, Heidecksburg Residential Palace, and much more.

Starting at 01.04.2020, the state-recognized spa town of Saalfeld—Heilstollenstadt—charges a tourism tax per day of stay of 2€/day for each adult and 1€/day for the first child aged 7 or older (exemption applies from the second child onward). Guest passes are issued, which can be used to receive discounts at local businesses and for tourist attractions. An overview of all offers can be found in the booklet provided at the accommodation.
