A relaxing East Frisia vacation at “Haus Hasenweide” near Bensersiel on the North Sea!
Our “Haus Hasenweide,” featuring two vacation apartments renovated in early summer 2022, is located in the heart of a scenic conservation area in the hamlet of Amkenhausen on the outskirts of the village of Stedesdorf. Stedesdorf, in turn, is located in the immediate vicinity of the North Sea spa town of Esens-Bensersiel on the East Frisian North Sea coast, right next to the unique natural wonder that is the “Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park,” which has been a “UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site” since 2009.
Here, you’ll stay in very well-equipped, cozy, and warmly designed and furnished vacation apartments measuring approximately 70 and 50 square meters. Suitable for 2 to 4 or 2 to 3 people plus a toddler, the vacation apartments offer plenty of space for peace and relaxation.
Stedesdorf is a small, idyllic farming village whose hamlets and farms are widely scattered—one of these hamlets is our little village of Amkenhausen. From here, you can reach the coast, about 9 kilometers away, in approximately ten minutes by car.
Massage and spa treatments are available in the neighboring town of Esens.
Thanks to Amkenhausen’s excellent transportation connections, you can easily reach all the many destinations and attractions that East Frisia has to offer. A bike ride along the East Frisia Hiking Trail is the healthiest way to reach the coast and the dike, passing through an area rich in interesting flora and fauna.
For children, the historic “Knight and Bear” town of Esens features the “Klabautermann” indoor play park; for adults, there’s a wide range of shopping and recreational options.
The North Sea spa town of Esens-Bensersiel, also nearby, has plenty to offer in terms of sports, recreation, and fun—for example, in Bensersiel, the “Nordseetherme Bensersiel” with a sauna area, wellness services, and many other recreational attractions; the wave pool, tennis courts, and a maritime sports theme park; surfing spots along the dike; fitness facilities; beach volleyball; fishing opportunities; and, of course, the very child-friendly beach—plus much more. You and your children should definitely visit the “Klabautermann” indoor play park in Esens—you’re sure to have a great time there. The “Klabautermann” is a large hall full of ideas for playing and running around.
Also very close by is the North Sea spa town of Neuharlingersiel. Neuharlingersiel is a 300-year-old fishing village with an active shrimp trawler fleet. In the beautiful historic fishing harbor, East Frisian fishing is still actively practiced today by 14 shrimp boats. There’s a wide range of tourist attractions for your vacation:
A beach with the fantastic “Platschi” water play area, the new, modern “BadeWerk” spa and wellness center with a seawater indoor pool and sauna facilities, as well as a spa house, a ballroom, an information center with the “Leuchttürmchen” children’s playhouse, the Sielhof as the “Haus des Gastes,” green spaces, events, a lovingly maintained historic harbor, and much more.
And don’t forget to visit the petting zoo—extremely popular with the little ones—in the old and cozy town of Warfendorf Werdum with your children!
Take a boat trip to the East Frisian islands or explore, for example, beautiful old chieftain settlements like Dornum, Greetsiel, or Lütetsburg with their associated castles and palaces.
Other worthwhile destinations include the many mills, museums, exhibitions, and other cultural highlights, as well as the diverse wildlife found in East Frisia’s geologically unique combination of marsh, geest, and moor. And don’t forget the “Ewige Meer” (Eternal Sea), a nature reserve right in our neighborhood featuring a moor lake and a unique array of flora and fauna.
You should also take the time to “get lost” in the friendly and cozy towns of East Frisia—for example, it’s not far to
