Tips for things to do:
Our apartment is the perfect starting point for hiking or cycling on an e-bike. Enjoy a hearty breakfast in the morning and off you go:
- One highlight is undoubtedly the disused diabase quarry in Rachelshausen, which is now protected as a natural monument and provides a home for many endangered animal species.
- The Daubhaus rises majestically 552.8 meters above the Gladenbach highlands. At its highest point, a commemorative stone marks the Celtic settlement of the Daubhaus 2,500 years ago.
- Hikers are rewarded with a panoramic view of the Dautphetal Valley and the Upper Lahn Valley when they climb the observation tower on the 504-meter-high Hünstein.
- Heading toward Gladenbach, the “Hinterland Switzerland” surprises visitors with a rocky landscape that unexpectedly emerges in the middle of the forest. Nearby are also the Blankenstein castle ruins and a wading pool in Georg-Ludwig-Hartig Park.
- You can enjoy a wonderful swim at the Nautilust in Gladenbach, which features a slide, a whirlpool, a sauna area, and dining options.
Shopping & Dining in the Area:
- Gladenbach is a great place to shop. The Krug and Baumann fashion stores offer fantastic clothing from many brands, and there are also great shoe stores and gift shops. Bellersheim is the go-to store in the area for toys, home decor, and household goods.
- Gladenbach also offers small restaurants, Café Fair and Café Kirche, an ice cream parlor, and snack bars. On Thursday mornings, you’ll find the market with fresh, locally sourced food.
- Events like the Cherry Market in July and candlelit shopping in December are the highlights of the year. There are also events such as traditional dance competitions, dance teas, Advent concerts, and readings at the Haus des Gastes.
In the apartment, you’ll find more ideas for things to do in the area. We’re happy to help with any questions or concerns you may have.
