Our vacation home 1899 embodies tranquility, warmth, and individuality. It is an extraordinary retreat where you can take a break from everyday life and recharge your batteries.

Our house is furnished to a high standard and has a very special charm thanks to its unique interior design. Each room has its own character.
After 118 years, we completely renovated and lovingly restored the house. We have preserved and highlighted the building’s unique character while adapting the living comfort to modern standards. For us, “well-being and relaxation” are our top priorities. Our property is designed to reflect this—it is also meant to be a place for socializing, enjoyment, and pleasure.
The German Tourism Association (Deutscher Tourismusverband e. V.) awarded it five stars in 1899: “This vacation rental offers first-class amenities and exclusive comfort.”
Especially in these times, our house—with its technical amenities—also offers an ideal change of pace from working from home.
In Wittmar, you can buy fresh rolls and bread at a local bakery. In the neighboring town of Groß Denkte, just a few minutes’ drive away, there is a discount store that is open on weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. There, and in Kissenbrück, you can also purchase regionally produced or processed products around the clock from vending machines operated by Bauer Bues, the Dohlenburg sheep farm, and the Neldner country butcher shop.

Wittmar is a former small mining town in the northern Harz foothills, situated in a scenic location on the southern slope of the Asse mountain range. This mountain range, designated as a scenic conservation area, is located about a 20-minute drive southeast of Braunschweig.
Just a few hundred meters from the 1899 site lies the Asse Forest, where you find yourself surrounded by nature. On a clear day, the magnificent panoramic view stretches from there across the gently rolling northern Harz foothills all the way to the Brocken, the highest peak in the Harz Mountains.
The Harz Mountains and larger cities such as Wolfenbüttel, Braunschweig, and Wolfsburg are just a short drive away. The region has something for everyone—whether you’re interested in nature, culture, technology, or shopping. It’s all here!
Getting there by car:
Drive via Wolfenbüttel on the B 79 toward Halberstadt; once you arrive in Wittmar, take the first left onto Asseweg; the vacation home is on the right at the first curve.
Traveling by public transportation:
Upon arrival at the Wolfenbüttel train station, take bus 710 toward Winnigstedt, which reaches Wittmar after about 20 minutes; get off at the bus stop there, cross the main road, walk a few meters to the left, and then turn right onto Asseweg; after walking about 200 m, the vacation home will be on your right.



1899 - The vacation home:

The first floor features a large open kitchen with a cooking island and direct access to the south-facing, covered terrace with a Weber gas grill. The kitchen is superbly equipped—two induction cooktops, one oven with a steam function and another with a microwave function, two dishwashers, two warming drawers, a KitchenAid stand mixer with accessories, various small appliances, baking pans, and much more. Cooking and baking are a pleasure here!

The café-bar, featuring a portafilter espresso machine and a lounge area, is open to the kitchen and the dining room, where a large table seats up to 10 people. There’s also a cast-iron wood-burning stove here to provide cozy warmth during the cold season. Across from the dining room is the living room, featuring a large couch, a TV, and a view of the apple tree in the garden. Adjacent to the hallway in the entryway is a small restroom. The first floor is fully equipped with Sonos speakers. An iPad is available to control the music and some Hue lights—Wi-Fi is available throughout the house and can be used free of charge.

From the large wooden deck, an open staircase leads to the garden and the sauna. Adjacent to the outbuilding is another deck for relaxing in the garden. There are additional seating areas in the shade of large yew trees. Two lounge chairs invite you to relax.

The upper floor features three bedrooms and two modern bathrooms. The garden room, which features a double bed, has its own bathroom and also includes a chill-out area in the attic—a private retreat with an additional TV. The Bismarck Room features a box-spring bed, and the Railroad Room has two single beds. Both bathrooms are equipped with a sink, toilet, and shower, and feature skylights for ventilation. The beds are made, and a set of towels is provided for each guest.

To recharge your energy and strength and do something good for your health, we’ve installed a sauna with a BI-O sauna heater in the old laundry room of our annex for moments of personal well-being. Here, you can also perform alternating water treatments based on Pastor Kneipp’s method to stimulate blood flow and support circulation—foot baths are also available. The sauna area can be used as an additional service for a fee.



On-site costs: Operating costs for water and sewage, electricity and gas, as well as wood for the wood-burning stove, are included in the rental price of the house. Two touring bicycles are available on-site and can be used free of charge. Please note that additional fees apply for the use of the sauna and the EV charging station, which will be billed separately. There is no visitor’s tax or tourism fee. 30% of the rental price must be transferred within two weeks of booking; the remaining balance, including mandatory additional services (final cleaning and linens) and the security deposit, must be paid no later than two weeks before arrival. Please observe the following house rules: • The house is non-smoking; however, smoking is permitted on the terrace and in the garden • Pets are not allowed • The house is not intended for parties or similar events Note: The house is not wheelchair accessible—there are steps leading up to and into the house. The house is also not equipped for small children (no cribs, high chairs, stair gates, or outlet covers). Check-in is available starting at 2:00 PM. We have an electronic door lock that can be operated with a cell phone. The access code will be sent to you well in advance of your arrival. In addition, a numeric code for the keypad on the front door will be provided during your welcome and orientation. On the day of departure, you may remain in the house until 2:00 p.m.



Check-in is available from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00, and check-out is from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
