The longest route, for those with the most stamina, follows the Danube Cycle Path. Of course, there are also many beautiful attractions in and around Blaubeuren that don’t require as much stamina: You can bike to the famous Blautopf karst spring and the late-Gothic Benedictine monastery, or take a break in the charming old town. The monastery, a cultural highlight of the region, is closely linked to the development of Blaubeuren. Today, the monastery houses a classical high school with a church-run boarding school. The respectful demeanor exemplified by the monks still holds an air of mystery. The monastery’s high altar and choir stalls are works of art of European significance, created by sculptors and painters of the Ulm School.
