We were astonished to hear about the red squirrel in the cottage; we have been renting out this property for over forty years and this was a first. We hired an exterminator to trap and to reinforce the house, repair access points, etc., and the current renters have not seen any red squirrels.  As for mice, we've had very few reports about them over the years, and when we have we have addressed the issue right away. We appreciate our renter's tolerance of the unexpected wildlife, but have taken that information to heart!

We would like to thank this guest for his constructive feedback and kind words. It is a beautiful place. With regard to... Mouse droppings: We have apologized to this guest for this issue, and do so again. For some reason, this has been an unusually bad year for mice and, in some cases, even squirrels. Many of our neighbors on the river have reported atypical infestations of both this summer. Prior to this guest's arrival, we had hired an exterminating company to address the problem via several rounds of trapping and reinforcing vulnerable points in the exterior of the house. We asked this guest to let us know during his stay if he saw evidence of mouse activity. We offered to set traps (we would deal with any mice they caught), but understand renters not wanting them around. Further, because of the problem, we refunded $500 to this guest after the end of his rental. In addition, after this guest's departure, we set more traps, and none of the several subsequent renters has had a problem. Having said that, again, this is an older cabin in the woods. As the exterminators told us, they cannot guarantee mouse eradication in even the newest dwelling because mice can fit through such tiny cracks and openings. Bathroom and kitchen soap: We apologize that the bathroom soap bottle was empty; that escaped the notice of our cleaner prior to this guest's arrival, and in the future we'll be more vigilant. As for the kitchen soap, there was an unopened bottle on a shelf near the sink that escaped this guest's notice. Toilet paper and paper towels: Point taken that we should be clearer with guests before their arrival as to what we do and do not provide. Because of the very limited storage space in the cabin, our policy has been that we provide a couple of extra rolls of TP and one or two extra rolls of paper towel, and after that, guests purchase what they need at the local store. First, we apologize that there was only one extra roll of TP; like the bathroom hand soap, this was an oversight on the part of the cleaner. Second, based on this feedback, we will revisit our policy, and further clarify what we provide and what we do not. Moths: This is a summer cabin in the woods. The only way to completely avoid moths is to a) never open the door, or b) never turn on a light. Please note: If you are bothered by the kind of moths that are attracted to light on summer nights, this cabin may not be for you. Again, we thank this guest for his valuable feedback.
