We did have a wonderful time even though we had very windy days making it a bit hard to use the pontoon boat, but overall it was a good time. The cottage was a little bit outdated, but nevertheless, clean and comfortable.

Second time at this very peaceful lake home! Well appointed for outside activities of boating, fishing (caught a northern and bass off the pier), fire pit, and quiet walks. Inside has everything you need for an easy and relaxing stay! Hosts are quick to respond! We will be back!

Other reviews said it was very clean. I hate to leave this kind of review, but as a VBRO owner, I felt I needed to be honest. I wonder if they got a new cleaner. The house, without going into detail, was very dirty. I had to sweep and mop the floor. Appliances were super greasy and dirty. The host was great. He answered all questions very timely. The included pontoon was a bonus!

Thank you for your input. We strive to make and keep the place clean, but have been aware that standards vary as does the level of cleanliness throughout the season. We have a deep clean in the springtime before the summer season starts. Our cleaner comes in before everyone's stay to ensure sheets and towels are clean, beds are made, floors are clean, and things are tidied up. We will do our best moving forward to make sure that these standards are met. An honest review like yours will help us to only make things better and improve on what we already have.

If your goal is to get away and just be, this is the place. It feels quite secluded although driving to the gas station, country store or to have a meal out is less than five miles. Hosts are very available and responsive.

The cabin was very cozy and nice. The pontoon was the highlight of our stay! Despite the weather, we were able to catch a good number of fish! It was nice to meet the owner's son, Anton, who shared a lot of information about the cabin!

Great spot!

Perfect size place with great fishing. Has everything we needed including wifi and TV. Located on quiet and picturesque corner of lake. Saw loon, Eagles, ducks and swans as well.

Beautiful area of WI

The cabin is in a beautiful area. We enjoyed our time there. It's quiet and peaceful, there is lots of wildlife, and the pontoon was fantastic to take a leisurely ride around the lake. The interior has all the amenities of a home, dishwasher, washer & dryer, huge TV, large fridge, and a nice gas stove. I would recommend it to anyone for a relaxing vacation.

Summer up north

Excellent place to stay for summer fun. Bringing my side by side next time to check out the trails. Took boat out every day to stop at the bar and beach across the lake

Peaceful Retreat!

Small, but mighty house right on the water. Very private location, which we love! We went for the fall colors, golf, walks and boat rides on the very nice pontoon. The home has everything you need! Beds are comfortable!! Hosts are gracious and responsive.

Nice cabin with New Pontoon Boat!!!

Very nice cabin with brand new pontoon included. Private location, only a few steps to dock. Super comfortable large pontoon with 90 hp 4-stroke, Hummingbird fish finder. Good fishing and nice bars and restaurants nearby. Easy check in and check out process. Definitely will be back!

Great Lake and Boat

Took my 3 sons and 2 grandsons their for 5 days. It was very nice, the boat was great, plus kayaks, canoe, tubing and foam island mat were all available. We fished, swam, watched eagles and had campfires every night. Worked out great for 6 people.

Vacation

We had a great time, a very nice cottage with everything that we needed. A very few problems, some firewood was too big to burn and no way to split it smaller, also the fire pit was not cleaned out. We took care of that too.

Snowmobiling around Pickerel Wisconsin.

We had a great time. The trails were great all weekend! It was a cold start with below zero temps but Saturday was nice around 20 degrees. The cabin was clean. They had everything needed for an enjoyable stay. It would be nice if there was a good access area to get on/off the lake with the snowmobiles but we made the best of the one spot we could find to get on/off the lake. It was a fun weekend for all of us.

Horrible Fishing Lake!!

Lake average depth 2 1/2 feet. Weeds everywhere. Pontoon with 90 hp Mercury....way to big for incredibly shallow lake. House was average at best. Electricity went out twice...no storms in the area. I went home 2 days early. Waste of money!!

Robert, Sorry that you Left so soon before giving the fishing a chance. Its unfortunate that you didnt use the depth finder to find the large 20 foot deep trench that is around 100 yards wide and over 1/2 mile long that runs through the west bay of the lake. Also, the east bay of the lake is mostly 5 to 8 feet deep with some areas up to 18 feet deep. You should have called us or used the GPS fish locater to find these areas. Its too bad the electricity went out. We had an ice storm in April and the lines were still being repaIred For a month after that. All is fine now with little chance of losing power going forward.

Outdoor fun!

The outdoor opportunities were fantastic; pontoon, fishing, water activities, camp fires, wildlife, etc. As mentioned, Pickerel Lake is not great for swimming-too many weeds. Dan, the owner was readily available via phone and quickly provided solutions when the septic alarm sounded and an issue arose with the pontoon. Cleanliness of the cottage did not meet our expectations.

A nice experience for the family

We spent a week with 4 adults and 3 children and had a good time. The home is well-kept and navigating the bathroom area was not a problem. It is a small home but adequate for 6 people. The kitchen was pretty nice with appropriate appliances and adequate utensils and cookware. There is not much to do around the area for kids apart from water activities on the lake. A trip to Eagle River for a tube float down the Wisconsin River and a dinner out with shopping was a good move. Antigo is good for mid-sized town basic shopping and groceries. Local quick marts have some basics and it’s only a short drive for bait, gas, ice, and misc items. The fishing was not what we hoped for on Pickerel but was still fun. We cast each day for several hours using mostly spinner baits with chartreuse skirts and flashy silver spoons in areas where the weeds were a bit deeper. The whole lake is quite shallow with only a few deeper areas. Trolling with minnows or worm rigs is not really an option with so many weeds. We caught around 50 pike but most were in the 12”-18” range....cigars....fishing mostly in 3’-4’ of weed flats and around the backside of the small island on the SW side of the northern section of the lake. Caught 4 keeper pike around 24” and one LM Bass that was 19”. Also caught around 20 smallies....usually around the edges of bountiful Lilly pads. All were between 10”-14”....no keepers. The dock is actually quite fun to mess around with fishing. Worms and a small hook with bobber catch bluegill in just seconds. Get cheap crappie minnows from the gas station and catch some nice crappies ranging from 6”-10” along with an occasional perch or even a smallie off the edges of the lilies. Even caught a couple pike off the dock. The boat is very nice and ran great for fishing, cruising, and tubing. Live well is great and the provided tube holds three persons and is great fun. There is not very much storage for food items so bring bins or boxes to keep food organized. It might be nice to have shelving or even a storage cabinet installed where the controls for the AC are located. All in all, it was a nice experience for the whole family to experience nature and time together. Do yourself a favor and don’t count on the internet to entertain everyone. It is sufficient to check email or take care of some business, but may cause some strife if the kids want to be on it all the time. Unplug and be with each itger for fun and games and margin.

The place was great to relax and disconnect from the hustle and bustle. The lake is beautiful, lots of wildlife. The lake is weedy but in front of the dock it was clear. Unfortunately the weather didnt allow for us to swim much, a little too chilly. The boat was awesome, there were so many places around the lake to stop and eat at by car, there are two you can get to by boat. The tubing and Kayaks were alot of fun.
