We felt really snug at Syms Cottage. Very comfortable and well equipped in a good central location for Exmoor exploration. Walking distance to the village pub and shop too!

Fabulous few days relaxing cottage was so comfortable and homely absolutely loved it . Slept like a log . So quiet too .

Lovely, characterful cosy cottage.

Had a lovely stay in this cosy cottage. Everything we needed was provided. Very pretty area. Pub and small shop in walking distance but not maybe with young kids. Great for a couple of nights away and base for exploring Exmoor.

A absolute gem in North Devon

We loved out stay at the cottage. It is equipped with everything one would need for a break. Location was perfect to get to walks and the beach. Our host was very good at communicating and allowing an easy checkin/out. The cottage is very clean and the beds are comfy. Book it!

A highly recommended place to stay! The cottage was very well equipped indeed. The quality of everything really stood out for us - a hotel style cottage :-) It's also full of character. Creaky old floors and low ceilings making for a cosy place to be. The location is lovely and quiet but easy to get to and to get out and about from as well.

Amazing views, sunshine, daffodils in bloom and lambs skipping in the field at the back - perfect springtime on Exmoor! It was very centrally located for our outings and activities. We will be back.

I really loved my stay at the cottage. Wish I could have stayed longer! I loved the whole place - from the vintage hob and oven to the diddy window in the pantry, the fabulous window seats and the views from the windows. I loved the wonky wooden floors and thought the décor was charming. Very comfy bed too. I adored the picture postcard pretty village and that it was so quiet and peaceful.

Wheddon Cross is often called the 'crossroads of Exmoor' -- a friendly village at the junction of the A396 and B3224, right in the heart of the National Park.



Standing at around 300 metres above sea level, Wheddon Cross is the highest village on Exmoor. It sits in the parish of Cutcombe, with the ancient parish church of St John just a short walk away in the neighbouring hamlet. The village grew up around its important crossroads, where travellers on the old coaching routes between Dulverton, Minehead and Simonsbath would stop to rest.



Village Amenities



The Rest and Be Thankful Inn stands at the centre of the village -- a 19th-century coaching inn serving food, local ales and accommodation. Wheddon Cross also has a well-stocked village shop with post office services, a petrol station with ATM, free public toilets, a children's play park, and an active village hall hosting regular community events.



Nearby Towns



Minehead (8 miles) -- The main town of West Somerset, with larger supermarkets (Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl), high street banks, a sandy beach, and the terminus of the West Somerset Railway.



Dunster (7 miles) -- One of England's best-preserved medieval villages, dominated by its castle and famous yarn market. Excellent independent shops and places to eat.



Dulverton (10 miles) -- Known as the southern gateway to Exmoor, with a National Park Visitor Centre, independent shops, a butcher, and several pubs and restaurants along the River Barle.
