If you’re looking for rustic, historical, isolated, right on the water, quiet, plenty of wildlife to observe, beautiful sunsets that is within a reasonable driving distance to many of Maine’s popular attractions and places, this little house is going to be perfect for you. Luckily for us, that is exactly what I love. We prefer this type of rental over a hotel or noisy resort-type place. Sometimes, however, you have to be willing to also experience some things that may be different from what you are accustomed to. One of the things we didn’t like is the well water. The house does have a filtration system, but the water still smells and tastes bad. We didn’t like the old, narrow clawfoot tub with the clingy plastic shower curtain either, though the shower had good water pressure. The house, being old and on the water has a musty, dusty smell. All the overstuffed wooden drawers and cabinet and closet doors are swollen and difficult to open and close. Could use a good clean out. Our favorite part was the back porch on the water. I spent as much time as possible just watching the water and wildlife and beautiful, ever changing sky. One day a porcupine just walked right past us while we were on the porch. Deer in the yard every day. Harbor seals and porpoises. Birds everywhere. The host, Jean, is so nice and communicative. We found everything we needed in the house, but I’m sure she would have done anything she could if we needed anything else. We had a wonderful stay.
