Waterfront Cottage On Candy Point: Familievenlig og hundevenlig!

Vil du slippe væk fra det hele? Dette er stedet for dig. Kør ned ad Candy Point Road og
du vil føle dig som om du er tilbage på sommerlejr i dette fredelige sommerhus med smukke originale fyrvægge og høje lofter. Dens hyggelige veranda vender direkte mod Rogers Creek med udsigt over Potomac-floden og Chesapeake-bugten.
Vi kalder dette sommerhus "Det lille hus", fordi det er det mindre pensionat på ejendommen - "det store hus" er i nærheden på tværs af gården. Lige ned ad bakken ligger vores sandstrand.
Køkken og badeværelse blev opdateret i foråret 2017.
Der er netop installeret en vaskemaskine / tørretumbler.
Sommerhuset har central aircondition og varme plus loftsventilatorer i hvert værelse.
Lig i hængekøjen for at se både spektakulære solnedgange og solopgange. Stor stjerne stirrer.
Til dit brug finder du strandstole, parasol, nudler, indre rør, kølere, fiskeredskaber, sandlegetøj, cykler, en ildsted, voksen kajak, en juniorkajak og 1 padlebræt i garagen.
4 sovepladser i to soveværelser, et med queensize-seng og et med to enkeltsenge. Badeværelset har bruser, intet badekar, flisegulv. Kæledyr er velkomne, men hvis de bliver våde og mudrede, skal du tørre dem af og læg håndklæder på mine puder!
Køkkenet har el-komfur, mikroovn, brødrister, kaffemaskine og køleskab med fryser. Trådløs internet service, intet tv. Malede gulve, hooked tæpper, dyner og masser af charme overalt.

We love this little home!

This is our second time staying, and we loved it just as much this time as last! My 12 year old son was so excited to catch different types of fish than what he’s used to in the Shenandoah Valley. We had great luck and caught a wide variety from Blue Crab, Croaker, Spot, Drum, and Flounder. We appreciate a good river cabin - my husband gets his primitive living and I get to sleep in a bed vs a sleeping bag we’ll definitely be back!

We had a wonderful few days at the Little House as part of a longer week exploring VA and WV. The cottage was inviting and well equipped (even Band-Aids!). The property was tranquil with great water views. It was in a secluded area yet a short drive to nearby towns. We enjoyed use of the kayak, relaxing on the porch, and listening to the rain hit the roof on our last night. Rob and the neighbors are welcoming and friendly.

My wife and I stayed at the cottage on the water at Candy Point. She had vacationed there as a child. It was so beautiful and quiet. We will definitely be back.

Great family getaway

We had a great weekend at the Little House. It was perfect for our family of four. Our kids and dog loved the beach and water. Access was easy and the shallow water was fun to play in. The whole property was lovely with amazing sunset views. I highly recommend it!

Summer getaway

Absolutely perfect weekend away! The cottage was so cozy and had everything we need. We relaxed in the hammock and made snores at night and took the kayaks out in the creek during the day! We were very comfortable the entire stay and had a much needed break! Thank you for letting us enjoy your beautiful cottage!

Water front at Candy Point

We very much enjoyed our stay. Loved the water and the use of the tubes to swim with. Loved the sun sets and the sunrises. Was able to get beatiful pictures. The home was clean but the walls needed a good dusting.

A Gem in Northern Neck

This property has stunning views of the water- a super host and an impeccable cottage that was a delight to stay in. We’re already planning our return. Swim in the river, relax on the dog or grill local fish- this place is near perfection. Very clean. Everything you need and a sweet charming cottage that’s been beautifully preserved.

Fantastic location

This is the second time we stay in this property and we always leave wanting to come back. The location is perfect, with great views of the creek and river. Water is just a few steps away. The small sandbanks make this place perfect for kids/teens who like exploring. The equipment provided (kayaks, boards) where all we needed to enjoy the river. Highly recommended to families and nature lovers.

Location, views and perfect short trip

The “Little House” was perfect for our first rental with our two large labs. My husband enjoyed the line crabbing all over the property while the pups and I mostly spent time on the porch with its shade in the afternoon and great place to watch the sunrise in the morning. Sunsets were spectacular just like the 1st picture with all the colors shown.

Quick two night getaway from NOVA and teaching. Cottage beautifully situated on Hull Creek and the Potomac River. Beautiful view from the porch. So relaxing!

What a relaxing spot! We spent hours of our trip on the screened porch reading, plying games, and napping. The house was well-appointed. We enjoyed the kayaks and SUP. WiFi was spotty at times. The only downfall is that there’s nothing nearby. This is just fine if you’re looking to relax, but our kids were antsy.

Should’ve told you about Compass in Kilmarnock. Huge entertainment complex with games, climbing walls, putt putt, batting cages, etc.

Felt like a trip back in time

We had a blast, my kids loved the doll house! And we're comfortable sleeping. We all enjoyed the small beach. The tide was higher though and there were a lot of jellyfish so we couldn't really play as much in the water as we had hoped, esp bc it was so hot during our stay. We didn't use the property to it's full capacity (only went canoeing once) It's a bit of a drive to restaurants so plan your food accordingly, but otherwise, no complaints. It felt a lot like the cabins we stayed in on the great lakes as kids!

Porch, Paddle, and FISH!

Location is perfect! Went there with my college son and nephew who brought their fishing kayaks. Although there is a tandem and junior kayak and paddle boards available. The screen porch makes you forget all your cares as you are perched higher up but have a close up water view. You can go down some steps to the shore for put-in and paddle the day away. The hosts were friendly and private but were available if we needed anything. The views of the open water and all the wildlife were just what I needed. The flowers and plantings are an added bonus and I love the sea breeze! Beds were very comfy and house is just enough size wise with modern and nostalgic vibes. And cool furnishings! It was really, really hard to leave. Easy drive to many spots in NN.

Magical!

We had an absolutely incredible time slowing down as a family together. Cottage was plenty spacious, stayed cool even in hot temperatures, having a washer and dryer available was terrific after our days of summer adventuring. Enjoyed fishing, paddle boarding, exploring the area. Absolutely loved the screened in porch for reading, relaxing, naps, meals, enjoying incredible views from sun up to sundown including some rain storms that passes through. We enjoyed seeing the crabs, bald eagle, jellyfish, bunnies, herons, enjoyed the sights and the sounds of the wind, water, and crickets at night. We were so fortunate to meet the owner, very kind man, very gracious and hospitable. The whole trip felt like grace. I have incredible memories and incredible pictures that I will return to frequently. Rob, thank you so very much. My heart is so full.

Perfect!

We stayed at the Little House for 10 days and we loved it. The location, a few steps from the water and with a small beach, was great for our kids and our 4 months old lab. The water equipment provided was great and we explored the surroundings using the boat, kayaks and paddle boards. We spent most of the time outdoors. The creek is very safe, and the children, 9 and 11, enjoyed kayaking and paddle boarding in the creek on their own. Swimming is fun, especially in the creek where the water is deep. The area was quiet (no many motor boats) which made the location even nicer and peaceful. The house had everything we needed. Beds were comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped. The high ceilings in the living room together with the long porch and the view of the creek and river, made it feel very spacious. The view is spectacular. AC worked very well, especially during the last two days when the temperature sore and there was very little breeze. The owner was very responsive and helped us with a few things we needed. Lovely neighbors. Grocery store is about 18-20 min away but did not seem that far (no traffic!). We highly recommend this place and would certainly love to go back again. Thanks!

Website is very misleading!

First of all check in is NOT 10:am nor 1pm! It’s 3pm. We get there@11 beds were made towels hanging up were wet and the house was a mess and very dirty. Thank God that I brought my Lysol & Clorox wipes cause there was NO cleaning supplies, not even a vacuum to vacuum the rugs. Just a broom without a dust pan. Me & my 81 year old mom cleaned and whipped everything down for a hour or more. The cleaning lady shows up and refuses to do anything cause we were there. Apparently she never does much cleaning away by the looks of all the dust, dirt & cobwebs all over. We striped the beds and washed everything. Thought we would never get the first load of towels dry. Finally my husband cleaned out the outside vent that was clogged up and was finally able to dry the linens. It’s a shame the cleaning lady nor the owner doesn’t take a better interest in this property cause it’s a unique cottage with beautiful views.

So, these folks arrive hours early and then complain about having to clean up! My housekeeper arrived right on time only to find them there. They rejected her help. The husband followed her into the second house, lit cigarette in hand, and made unpleasant comments to the housekeeper. These folks are not welcome to return.

Very disappointed!

The house number was difficult to locate in the dark, very hard to find. No lights were on, and the outside entrance light did not work. The temperature inside the house was 63 degrees when we arrived. The heat pump only got the temperature up to 68 degrees during the two days we were there! The house was not very clean. Cobwebs everywhere. Instructions for the WIFI were unclear! There was no TV in the unit. Dead bugs were found on the floors and in the kitchen. There was no major lighting over the dining room table and even with all the lights on the house was quite dark! To get some of the lights to work one had to use extension cords. With the strong wind our first night one could feel the cold air coming right through the walls of the house! It certainly was not what we were expecting and not what was described in the description of the property!!

We'll be back!

We had a wonderful stay at Robert's cottage. The cottage is cozy and comfortable, equipped with everything we needed. The view from the house is wonderful, and the little beach area was perfect for our children to splash in the water. We spent a lot of time reading in the hammock and sitting on the screen porch. My birding husband saw nearly 30 species of birds just around the house. We love visiting the area and frequent Hughlett Point Nature Preserve, which is about 25 minutes from Robert's cottage. We look forward to coming back to Robert's cottage in the future.

We are native Virginians and live in Alexandria, VA.
The property includes 2 cottages, a garage, 1 acre, and a dock. It's our family's favorite place and we've been restoring and upgrading it for the last 35 years.
I love painting furniture and floors and anyone can see I have been very busy with my projects!

Definitely its proximity to the water. Candy Point is practically surrounded by water... you can hear the waves at night. Visitors feel like they are on a boat because the house is up on a hill and you see water everywhere you look!

In the spring you can watch ospreys ( just back from their winter journey to Argentina) building their nests. Bald eagles soar above the creek. We have bluebirds and hummingbirds too. It is a very quiet setting --at night you hear the waves and the frogs across the creek at Froggy Bottom. Plus the star gazing is amazing! also, there's fishing and crabbing from the dock.
