Top of the World

The balcony overlooking the town and the ocean was the star of our stay! Apartment was spacious and clean. We appreciated the fresh flowers! Great location. Easy to walk to the Pier and the beach. Would stay there again.

Home away from home !

We had a lovely relaxing few days at the Top of the World “Palm”. Should have added another few days. Will definitely be back ! Thank you Jerry, for the warm welcome and hospitality.

laid back vacation stay

Just what we wanted - close to the San Clemente Pier with gorgeous view from the deck and easy access to everything we wanted. Owner very personable, not a sterile, bland hotel-like environment.

Excellent Location and amazing views. Some minor design flaws in the master bedroom. Our family had an amazing time in the area and this was a great, affordable meeting place.

Beach house

View was spectacular as well as the location. There were ants in the kitchen and in the master bedroom. Never able to get the TV to work, other than Netflix. Had fun any way!

Breathtaking View

The place is nice clean and spacious. You can’t beat the view. We walked down to the beach in minutes and they had amazing shops and eatery places. There is a train that goes by the beach here and there. Our kids loved it. Again, the view is unbeatable.

Great View, Perfect Location

Amazing views overlooking the pier and beach. Easy access to beach, walking path, and shops. Jerry was very helpful throughout our stay and made us feel very welcome. The place had everything we needed. The balcony is spacious, lots of seating, two sliding doors to enjoy the perfect weather. The sunsets were great, and nights very calm and relaxing. In addition to the beach access, the location is great for running, walking, shopping, etc… with many walkable activities within a half mile or so. The trolley picks up close by, so you can get just about anywhere in San Clemente without a car. We frequently took the trolley to Del Mar or El Camino Real for drinks/dinner and walked back. San Clemente has some incline on most streets to/from the beach, so plan ahead depending on physical limitations, strollers, etc… we walked to the beach and pier in about 5 minutes. The incline is only to/from the beach, so walking around the neighborhood and town is relatively flat. We had an amazing time and definitely plan to stay here again!

Personality+

Fantastic view and location. Jerry, the host, is the best. A bit of quirkiness (as you can see from the photos) gives the place loads of personality. It's great "bang for the buck". A bit more TLC would be nice, as a couple of items--admittedly non-essential--weren't working. The indoor spaces were clean, but in a pet-friendly unit an AstroTurf balcony is not a good idea. A previous dog had obviously "used" it. Overall, we loved the place and will try to stay there again when we next visit San Clemente.

Amazing Location with Great View

The location of the property is in a great area. We easily walked to the beach and various restaurants. There is some uphill walks, but that is to be expected in the area. A car is not required, but we enjoyed having one to go to the grocery store and other places slightly farther away. It was great there was a parking space in the driveway as street parking is very difficult to find. The unit had a very comfortable bed, ample kitchen with full size coffee maker (big deal for us) and an amazing view of the ocean. It was so nice to drink coffee on the balcony and watch the sunset in the evening. Also, there are beach chairs, umbrella etc. all available for use. Next time we are in San Clemente, we will definitely stay here again.

Beautiful view and location but that's it

We planned this trip to treat our Parents expecting to have a great time near the beach. We were immediately disappointed when walking into the unit. The unit was quickly cleaned and definitely didn't feel like it was professionally done. There were crumbs all over the couch and carpet and leftover food in the fridge. As we checked out the rest of the place, we were disappointed to find the following: Wall length mirrors broken and duct taped together, as well as the picture frame over the bed, water damage on the floor and ceilings, flooring in the Master Bedroom is linoleum tiles that were curled up on the corners and felt spongy when walking on it, towels and bedsheets were mismatched, towels with bleach stains and sheets with stains on them, moldy utensils in the drawers and food splattered on the appliances, a loose razor blade lying in one drawer, the gas firepit on the balcony had no gas hookup and could not be lit, the TV would not work and would cut out every few minutes. We couldn't get a hotel room on short notice and slept in our clothes because we felt uncomfortable sleeping in the sheets. We left the next morning and did not return, foregoing our last 2 nights that we prepaid. While Jerry was a great host in terms of communication and felt accommodating, these things were all clearly left out of the listing and could not have been addressed to make us feel more comfortable.

Had a good time - but read helpful info

Really enjoyed our stay. Terrific location. Priced a little high, but less than other similar locs in town. HELPFUL INFO WE HAD TO FIGURE OUT OURSELVES: 1. Piano in pic is electronic - doesn't work. 2. Golf cart in pic - can not use. 3. Towels - Most not bath size (tiny) - and not enough (group of 5) 4. Ad says two parking spots. NO - only one, and street parking is VERY difficult in the area. 5. Owner lives in unit above you. 6. VRBO notice says you get check-in instructions 3 days before stay. NEVER GOT THEM. Begged and begged on VRBO messaging. No response from owner. Finally called him the day before, got him, and he advised door lock code. Just the stress you DON'T need when planning travel and spending thousands of dollars in advance. 7. You'll need to practice opening and closing the coded lock. Unusual mechanism. 8. Had to request a toaster - not in unit as described. 9. VERY poor DirecTV connection - no movie streaming. Loses signal every 3-5 minutes. Gave up watching. 10. Unit same level as street - no steps (nice). 11. Walking access to pier, beach, and even downtown - but be prepared for VERY steep hills. Ok with us.

All about the views

The property has an amazing location with a large balcony for viewing the San Clemente Pier and the Pacific Ocean. Loved staying here. Property is a bit on the dated side and the laminate Floors in the master bedroom appear to have had a water leak at some point. Either way it is an amazing property that we would def stay at again.

One of the best views in San Clemente

A great beach experience, especially liked the large deck overlooking Pier Bowl. Comfortable apartment. Short walk down to the pier and beach,some might say a bit steep walking back up but that's what makes the view so great.

Great vacation July 2018 Jerry is awesome

This was a great house big windows everywhere you can see the ocean. It was a four minute walk to the beach. There was a big living room area that we really enjoyed. Jerry was very helpful and nice. We would definitely stay here again .

The Surfview Top of the World owner is a past San Clemente Veteran of Foreign Wars commander and current Service Officer. He is an active volunteer in the community as a certified EMT, Neighborhood watchperson, Senior Center volunteer, and former Boy Scouts of America adult leader. He is a member of the San Clemente Downtown Business Association, Chamber of Commerce, and the San Clemente Men's golf association. Jerry Quinlan is not an expert surfer, though, he can be found kayaking regularly around Seal Rock, to the south, or, every so often, swimming around the pier. He can be recognized on photo #16, with his daughter, Elizabeth, on the top deck at the 'TOP OF THE WORLD' SURFVIEW PENTHOUSE.

'Top of the World' is like a pressbox in a sports stadium; looking from a most exceptional and unique view down over the pier, beach, harbor, and Islands on the horizon. A short two hundred twenty yard walk down to the sand. The location is equally between Disneyland, Newport, Hollywood; and, San Diego Zoo, Seaworld, Legoland.
