We LOVED this rental! I was lucky to get it because of a last-minute cancellation.
The view is incredible from every window. We built a campfire and watched the sunset sky turn a dozen different colors before the stars showed up, bright and visible with no city lights around. The rushing creek/waterfall near the property was just a short walk & quite impressive!
My favorite thing about the main house besides the view was the master bed, which was so comfortable, I went online to research the mattress to get one for myself (turns out it's pretty expensive, though). The kitchen was user-friendly for making breakfast and cookies. All the TVs had plenty of channels and wifi was solid, especially over at the guest cottage side. There was so much attention to detail all around the property and photo ops galore.
We traveled back and forth to Boone every day of our trip, with no issues. Lowes Grocery is not far and we also ate at the Mexican restaurant in the same plaza as Lowe's, which was great. Only minutes from the house was the Todd Mercantile Bakery, with mouth-watering, fresh-baked pastries and cute gifts.
On our final day we received a visit from "Turk", the Anatolian Shepherd dog that helps guard the farm animals. He acted as though he'd known us all his life and just accepted our love and affection (and leftover bacon!) happily.
We met owner "Betty", a graceful and kind southern soul, and enjoyed every second with her as she showed us the collection of interesting animals at the barnyard on the way out. Betty knows a great deal about every species she keeps and we enjoyed hearing the stories. She is truly a lovely person to be around.
Chronic complainers (the world is full of them!) would probably find fault with various small things, such as the guest cottage was slightly musty at first and the long driveway up to the cottage is steep and winding. None of that was an issue for my family. This was one of the few vrbo rentals where I definitely want to return again (usually I have a 'been there, done that" philosophy where I'm always ready to try the next place).
If you get the opportunity to rent this one, take it! I knew it was special when our group ended up discussing how much each of us would love to retire there and just watch the seasons change from the top of the mountain!
