The lake setting was average at best, about 5/10, and the property itself was disappointing. This is clearly a weekend rental cabin built inexpensively, not a high-end permanent home. The construction reflects that, including single-pane windows.I own a home at Lake of the Ozarks, so I understand the challenges of maintaining a lake house surrounded by woods. However, there is a difference between normal outdoor conditions and poor maintenance. The outdoor porch and surrounding areas were extremely dirty, with extensive spiderwebs and thick, accumulated dirt on virtually every horizontal surface. This was clearly more than a few days of buildup.Inside, I would rate cleanliness 6/10. The worst issue was the upstairs couches, which had an overwhelming dog odor. Simply sitting down forced air out of the cushions that released an incredibly strong dog smell. This wasn’t a faint pet odor; it seemed deeply embedded in the upholstery.Additionally, a strong rotting odor came from the kitchen garbage disposal.Overall, the setting was acceptable, but the construction quality, cleanliness, and maintenance fell well short of expectations for a professionally managed vacation rental.
