Rockford Lodge is a fantastically charming property and a perfect escape. The location is stunning - right next to the river, beautiful walks from the door and an excellent pub serving great beer and food just over the footbridge! We absolutely loved it and haved vowed to come back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Rockford Lodge. The location is stunning as it sits right on the river and we had the most wonderful daily dog walks and runs to Watersmeet and the beautiful national trust cafe there. The cottage was very cosy and comfortable with everything you could need for a relaxing stay. Our host Lucy was very helpful and friendly. We would highly recommend staying and would love to return. Quaint, well-equipped cottage in a beautiful spot by the river. Great for exploring the south coast path and beaches and villages of North Devon. The nearby town, Lynton, is great for cafés and restaurants but you'll need to drive further for a big supermarket so best to do a bigger shop on the way.

Fantastic little cottage in an amazing area. Access is an extra little quirk but that adds to the fun. The descriptions couldn’t be clearer. Great little pub across the road is a great place to sit when you are not enjoying the walks or playing in the river. Definitely hope to visit again

Wonderful stay

Lovely cottage in an excellent location, very clean, river room was a great place to sit and let your worries float away, Lucy was always available if needed on the end of the phone.We had a lovely stay over Christmas and didn't want to go home, great experience recommended

What an amazing property The instructions for finding the property are not idealIt didn’t mention the access is across a wooden bridgeThe stairs to the first floor are very steep The property is not entirely suitable for people with mobility issues Having said that it is a unique and lovely property in an amazing location Do try the pub opposite

Thank you for your review on Rockford Lodge and I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay at the cottage. Due to the unique, stunning location of Rockford Lodge, I do make it very clear in the cottage details that it is not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. There are photos and details of the access including a video from the bridge to the cottage. We also provide stairgates for the top and bottom of the stairs if needed and there is also a handrail. We are very fortunate that a new team have taken over at the Rockford Inn who have settled in and have made a great success of the pub already. Pete, Jess & Owen the chef are very welcoming and the food is superb! Bookings for evening dining is advisable. Kind regards, Lucy & family

Great stay in a beautiful location

The cottage is lovely, full of character and in a wonderful location right by the river. It’s extremely peaceful and there are great walks from the door step, our dog loved it! The hosts were extremely responsive and helpful too. We would definitely like to return here.

Beautiful location

The lodge was well equipped and in a beautiful, quiet location. The car parking arrangement was not ideal but understandable given the location and certainly not a deal breaker. We enjoyed our stay and certainly had everything we needed for a comfortable week in the lodge.

Lovely location

Beautiful spot on the river with extensive walks all around. Cottage had everything you need. The beds and linen were sumptuous. Stairs a bit scary!

A Short break by the river

A very nice area with lovely walks along the river The cottage had everything we needed. The only issue was the property was not as clean as we would have expected. However we had a relaxing break.

In a valley

Set in a valley the property was peaceful while not seeming completely isolated. Wonderful walk along the riverbank in both directions. Short drive from Lynton and the breah-taking clifftop walk to Valley of Rocks. Highlight was watching the cattle drive across the ford which passed within feet of the riverview room. All in all a very enjoyable stay.

River view

Lucy was so helpful in answering questions and supporting us. It is a lovely spot unique and connected to the history of the area. Walks from our front door. Good pub across the river and comfy beds as we fell asleep to the sound of the river . We will be back!

Perfect as always

Not stayed for a while but we’re so glad nothing had changed. Been visiting since 2004 and cannot fault the Cottage, always had an amazing time with family and friends who have all loved it The Rockford Inn has been up and down over the years but at present it’s the best it has ever been, great food and service. Can't wait to go back

This is such a lovely place. We felt like we were in a fairy tale, nestled in the woods and listening to the stream running by. The host was responsive to our messages and helpful. I hope we get to go back--but for longer the next time. (The stairs up to the bedrooms and bathroom were fine for us but I could see how they might be too narrow and steep for some with less mobility.) Overall, it was a great holiday and perfect location.

A lovely spot to stay

We really enjoyed our stay. The location suited us really well. It’s on the river with paths in both directions directly from the door. The pub across the river is really cosy and serves good beer. It’s also a good spot for access to other parts of Exmoor. The cottage was very clean and reasonably comfortable. We liked the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. The kitchen is very cosy with the Aga stove. However it was exceptionally cold during our stay and the central heating was not enough to make other rooms comfortable. Although it was not an issue for us, parking up the hill and having to cross a bridge by foot to access the property may not suit everyone.

I do try to make the location of the Cottage very clear in the details and crossing the river over a footbridge makes it very unique and special. With reference to the heating, the cottage details which are available to you explains that the central heating can be overridden beyond the settings so you can choose to have it on as much as you like and the boiler can in fact be turned up if required. I am always available by phone 24/7 for any queries.

Cozy and magical house!

We had a fabulous time at the Lodge! This house is a gem... like walking into the country place you wish your family had had when you were growing up! Our family (myself, my husband, 2 teenagers and a small dog) had such a magical stay for one week of the Easter break. We love how so many of the details and history of the lodge have been preserved, and we felt very at home right away. Walking over the footbridge to the property, waking up and walking out straight onto the river bank, going to sleep with the lovely warm blankets listening to the river... we all felt so comfortable and at home. Being able to walk straight out to the trail (definitely walk to Watersmeet!) and nip across the river for a beverage at the lovely Rockford Inn was exactly what we needed, and the coast and all it has to offer is just a short drive away. We can't wait to come back in the summer so we can take a dip in the river and hit the water at some of the local beaches. Thank you, Lucy, for a lovely stay!

A very comfortable and quiet retreat

We had just three nights at Rockford Lodge, but it was a beautiful, peaceful place in which to escape from everything. I have never had the opportunity to stay anywhere so close to a river, but by the end we were wishing we could take a little part of the East Lyn home with us. The cottage was very comfortable and had everything we needed, including in the kitchen (and it was great to be able to cook with an Aga that was identical to one we used to have when I was young :) ). Walks from the property were remarkably beautiful. Wifi was fast and reliable. Great to have so many books and games in the cottage - could easily have stayed for a few weeks just sitting and reading! Parking was tight on the first try but was easy once I'd worked out where to position the car...and the car park in Brendon just up the road was very useful to be able to turn around and head in the opposite direction. The trips to unload and reload the car took some effort but the road was quiet and it was good exercise :) The back of the cottage is quite dark as it is built into the hill, but this turned out to be part of the cozy attraction of the place, and there was plenty of light to the front. Very well-looked-after garden. Great location to explore the North Devon and Somerset coasts, and wider Exmoor just to the south. Beautiful and memorable. Thank you!

Wir waren mit Hund und Kind da und wir haben selten einen idyllischeren Fleck Erde gesehen. Wunderschöne Lage vom Haus! Bei Fragen war Luzy immer sofort zu erreichen. Wir werden sicher wiederkommen! Einfach fantastisch!

Sehr schönes Cottage direkt am Fluss, super Ausgangspunkt zum Wandern. Die Technik im Haus muss man erst verstehen, aber dann funktioniert es auch. Können wir sehr empfehlen.

Sehr schönes Cottage in sehr schöner Umgebung. Super Ausstattung und sehr netter Kontakt zu der Eigentümerin via mail. Vom Cottage aus waren einige Wanderungen möglich, ohne das Auto zu benutzen.

Anniversary Weekend

The cottage is perfectly situated for those who enjoy plenty of different walks directly from the front door. It’s in a lovely spot right by the river, very peaceful and relaxing. …and great for dogs. The cottage is well appointed with everything you need for your stay. We were only there for 2 nights but would like to have stayed longer and hope to go back.
