Rawson Retreat Luxury Country House

Hi Cynthia I just love that our home attracts so many passionate cooks, who are of course, passionate about eating great food! We are that kind of extended family too as are all our friends. With winter upon us now it is such a brilliant opportunity to indulge in slow cooked and oven roasted dishes. Root veggies, hearty soups, baked goodies, pears, apples, cinnamon, red wine.....around a long table on an even longer afternoon. So glad you loved it too! Suzanne

Thanks Richard for leaving our home so beautifully upon your departure - Karen our wonderful housekeeper could barely believe you had stayed 5 nights and with children! Not sure which was a greater hit with the fam - the piano or the spa but delighted your had a lovely school holiday break together....kids grow up so fast, it's truly precious. Hi Jacque so glad your family of 4 couples had a wonderful break together. It's always difficult finding a date to gather grown up children and partners. But after two years of lockdowns it is really special. Having grown up children with partners and now grandchildren, we appreciate having sufficient space to spread out for big loud dinners, quiet corner chats, afternoon naps on a daybed with the weekend papers, curling up in an armchair by the fire with a gripping novel or storytelling with a couple of bottles of red late into the night. Our home has evolved to maximise that wonderful combination of many spaces to gather together and yet many nooks to relax and restore. For us the big kitchen is always a focal point as we love to chop and chat and cook together. What wonderful ceremony it is to set the table with big white plates and sparkling glasses, to light candles, to heap lovingly prepared food on large platters and then sit and share together. Nothing says family, friendship, love and gratitude so much as this beautiful ritual. Something we have had time to miss and appreciate so much more in this last couple of years. As a fellow book lover, you will be glad to know we've extended our library to include more children's books in the bookcase in one of the bedrooms, more cook books (adore food porn!!) and more design and architecture books. Hi Dianne delighted to hear this getaway with old friends was all you had anticipated and planned. After all this enforced time apart a lunch or dinner date just isn't enough to make up for all the lost dinners and lunches of a couple of years!! You need a few solid days together.....and even that doesn't seem enough. So glad our mountain home provided all the space, comfort, relaxation and peace to really enjoy such special time together. Thanks Kim, so glad you were warm and cosy. It can be hard to achieve that in a large home with lots of big open plan spaces. Yet so important in the cold mountain winters. The open fire with all the daybeds, cushions and throws in the conservatory is perfect at anytime, but so lovely at night with lamps and a good red wine. The real workshorse though is the natural gas Brivas central heating in every room. It's SO comforting to walk in the door when it's freezing outside to the welcoming warmth it generates. And sunngling into a warm bed under a big soft duvet.....winter bliss!
