We love the Australian flora and fauna, so the choice of stay was determined by location, location, location! So Grasstrees Private Nature Reserve, Bolivia, was the place for us. For an feast for our senses we only needed our walking shoes, a day pack, and a lunch. Lovely walks were from full day strolls with a camera and binoculars. Short strolls were rewarded, too. Hosts supplies binoculars BTW.The unexpected happened when we saw birds and wildlife different from where we live and work.BTW, access is by AWD vehicle

Grasstrees is GREAT

Trish/John are the perfect hosts to their wonderfully warm and inviting accommodation.. a nature lovers delight.

A wonderful haven

The gatehouse was wonderful- beautiful views - cabin was very equipped and comfortable - fireplace was enjoyed ! We went for great walks and our favourite time was sitting on the veranda watching the local wildlife in the morning with a coffee and in the afternoon with a wine.

Comfortable nature retreat

Beautiful property with sweeping views from the cabin. Super clean and comfortable with all necessities and amazing Woodstock. Trish and her husband were super helpful and accommodating. Lots of walks to be had on their property with wildlife all around Perfect getaway 👌

Wonderfully relaxing!

You know when you really need to get away from the city and you book accomodation and hope for the best. Well Grass Trees was everything we hoped for and more. The accomodation was even better than the photos. The cabin is clean, well appointed, very comfy and has the most amazing view. Every single afternoon we couldn't wait to get back to the cabin after our country drives and watch the sun set, Wallaroos eating grass and small birds enjoying the native trees next to the cabin. The hosts, Trish and John, are so lovely and friendly and very discreet. They leave you alone to get the rest you need but equally love a chat if you are up for it. If you need some down time away from it all don't hesitate to book this lovely country stay. :)

A tasteful and comfortable eco cabin with an amazing view

My husband and I have just spent 10 nights at Grasstrees on Bolivia Hill. John and Trish were lovely hosts - there when you needed them but not there when you didn't (though we did manage to have a glass of wine with them one afternoon!) John and Trish have created a beautiful haven on Bolivia Hill, surrounded by granite boulders, bush and lots of wildlife. The Grasstrees cabin is beautifully constructed - well insulated, with a fabulous fireplace and deck where you can sit and watch the sunrise in the mornings and ponder the most amazing view of the Bolivia valley below. The kitchen is well equipped and the bed very comfortable. The sheets were pure cotton which is lovely. The bathroom is tasteful and the natural products eg. shampoo, conditioner, body wash are all organic and very nice to use. The property is well located just a half hour's drive in various directions to Torrington Conservation Area, Bald Hill NP, Kingsplains NP, Emmaville Mining Museum and Tenterfield. So if you're looking to get away from the hustle and bustle, we recommend a stay at Grasstrees. We wish John and Trish all the best with their endeavours to attract tourists to this scenically beautiful area of Bolivia Hill.

Quiet place to chill out

Hosts are very accommodating and friendly without smothering. View and space are good for replenishing the soul. Road into property was a bit hairy in two wheel drive but got there all the same; best to heed owner’s advice.

Bush getaway

We thoroughly enjoyed our stat at The Gatehouse. The accommodation is very clean, well maintained, reasonably new and high on a hill with a deck to enjoy the great views of the valley. There is plenty of pristine property to explore on site, like a mini Girraween national park - there are GPS co-ordinates for the more adventurous walks. Good Telstra mobile reception. Tenterfield and the Stanthorpe wineries are a short drive away. Trish & John are great hosts too. Great place to relax and unwind. Enjoy!

Relaxing and back to nature

We had had a very long day with car troubles and when we arrived the fireplace and calm music just relaxed us. I loved the quiet, the views, the walks in the bush and sighting some of the natural inhabitants. It was clean and the hosts are happy to fit in with the guests. I am happy to come back anytime.

Fantastic getaway to unwind and relax

Had a fantastic time here relaxing with my partner before our first child is due at the end of the year. Couldn't recommend this place anymore highly to those looking to unwind and relax in complete peace and isolation. The hosts are fantastic and provide everything you need to thoroughly enjoy the property and the cabin is perfectly set up for a cozy and relaxing stay.

Getaway on Bolivia Hill

Delightful getaway in nature with stunning view

Beautifully appointed and cleverly designed small house, with a huge sun-filled verandah for cold days and a fabulous wood-fired oven to keep you snug at night. Comfy, clean and a great place to relax. The property is massive - so for keen walkers there are lots of places to explore, including Thunderbolt's Cave. Trish has also mowed lots of meandering paths for easier strolls. The view is amazing. A great place to unwind and relax.

Hidden gem

This is the perfect stay if you would like to get away from the hustle and bustle and just enjoy the view and surroundings. Photos don't quite do this place justice -- it's a beautiful part of Australia to get to see from this vantage point. Trish and John are wonderful accommodating hosts and small touches including a dedicated botany book for the property make this a cut above many places we've stayed. I hope Trish and John continue to host people as it's a very special place indeed and I hope we'll be back one day.

A place for relaxation

Trish and John’s place is an eco-haven. We had a healthy dose of rain and the cabin is just right for hunkering down with a book or two by the fire. There are plenty of short walks on easily followed trails, with peaceful spots to sit at the end of them.

Unique location

Beautifully kept cottage perfect for 1 or 2 with lots of thoughtful touches. Lovely hosts. Wonderful place featuring massive granite boulders with its unique bird and plant life. Come with warm clothes and note that cooking facilities are somewhat limited. Check beforehand. (A pair of binoculars and a bird book would be great inclusions.)

Peaceful Property

Excellent place for a getaway

This was such a lovely place to stay. The hosts were welcoming but gave us plenty of privacy. There are lovely bushwalking options and the property is home to beautiful habitat and wildlife. And we couldn't believe the view when we arrived! It was a pretty cold winter day when we checked in but the wood stove made things very comfortable. The Gatehouse was comfortable, immaculate and had everything we needed to feel right at home. The property was easy to get to but felt like a world away from anything. We brought groceries with us as it's away from town, but only about 30 minutes' drive from Tenterfield so pretty accessible to get out and explore as well. And it was a really lovely place to be able to take our dog for a holiday, too. Highly recommend this property for a lovely bush getaway.
