This is a beautiful and unique spot, the scenery is amazing, the place is a beautiful example of Kiwiana, there are lovely things everywhere and books and games. The beds are comfortable and if you are looking for a place to relax this is it, except you will have to bring food and cook. There is a café but the only time we saw it open was as we were leaving. There is a general store but it is expensive. This isn't a cheap place, the issues we came across might have been ignored if it had been. The kitchen has everything you need but at least half the cups are chipped and/or cracked. Only half the toaster worked and there were no really sharp knives. The toilet made a shrill whistling noise every few minutes - there was a notice saying to turn off the valve which did stop the noise but also stopped the cistern from filling. A functioning toilet is an essential part of any rental property. The whole bathroom could have used an upgrade, it was dark and had slipped from rustic into unpleasant. We had a two day drive to get to the Waterline and tried on several occasions to contact the host beforehand, both by phone and email but did not receive any answer. We were half way up the Island before we got entry instructions and as we had paid the total owed in full I was more than a little nervous that the whole thing was a scam. Turns out it wasn't but communication was poor. There are more good things about this place than bad, and the bad things could easily be fixed.
