Very good communication with the host. Beautiful cottage right on the lake. Lots of beds and space for everyone.

Property was pretty much as shown in pics. Was rustic but had most everything needed. It was a good size and accommodated my family of 11 with family dog as well. It could use a few things to make it even better such as blinds/curtains on all bedroom windows and bathroom window for sleep and privacy. It also could really use better lighting (or at minimum working lamps and bulbs in all rooms). Master had no lamp at all and no working plug that we found so we had to use multiple extension cords to run a C-pap machine. Many steps to beach but well worth the ups and downs. Great sunsets to watch! Kids enjoyed pool table, swing and paddle board.

Our family had a wonderful time togetherAt Sandyedge retreat. Jennifer the HostessWas quite happy to help make your stay asWonderful as possible. We had lots of room for our entire family. It was very nice and clean on the inside. The weather did Not cooperate as well as we would have liked. Very wet outside. Which made insideSeem damp. Thats where central air can be quite beneficial. The beach was AmazeingWe were told by friends from the area that 75 steps to the beach was pretty good. Usually it could 100 or more. We would definately revisit Sandy edge retreat or any other property Jennifer Hosted as we know it would be wonderful thx you

Lovely lakeside property

The cottage is just as pictured in photos, large open downstairs, nice patio with lakeview and GREAT beach. Upstairs can get VERY hot and the track coming in is super muddy but we had a great time there.

Beautiful Spot

Our big , multigenerational family loved our week at the beach. There is plenty of room and the ping pong table , kayaks and SUP are a nice bonus. The beach is beautiful and private . The occasional morning beach walker to chat with - but that is it. I highly recommend this cottage for your clan!

Our stay at Sandy Edge Retreat was the perfect start to summer. The cottage was the quintessential lake side getaway. Upon arrival our host Jennifer had provided us with everything we would need for the perfect weekend. There was a nice welcome package including some local coffee and information about the area.The cottage was clean, cozy and close to the beautiful town of Bayfield. Our family enjoyed days along beautiful Lake Huron and nights around the campfire. The cottage was the perfect family escape and we would love to visit again.

Family Get Away August 2025

My favourite things about this cottage: great location, great beach and sunsets...you can fall asleep to the sound of the waves. Great for kids and dogs to run free. The cottage is roomy. Bonus is having the loft area for the kids to play away from grownups. Unfortunately, we didn't swim as it was too cool but it didn't stop us from spending hours on the beach. Shopping is only a few minutes down the road. Thank you to Jennifer and Shauna at Cottage Stays for looking after us. Barbara

Lots of good memories made!

From the first inquiry 8 months ago to checkout, communication has been quick and great information. During our stay, Jennifer checked in with us to make sure we were settled and things were okay. The 4 grandchildren loved it! Ping pong table was well used by us as was the beach and the kayaks. Our 7 year old grandson and 10 year old grandson told me they want a week at the cottage for their birthdays next year! Thanks for a great week!

A great getaway!

Sandy Edge was exactly as described in the listing. It reminded me of my childhood cottage time in a wood cottage in Muskoka. I loved the wood interior and the thoughtful layout of the cottage. We had 3 couples and 2 kids stay during our time and we all had our own space. It was nice to have a couple bedrooms on the main level so that we had our own area. The house is situated at the edge of the woods and a ravine and feels quite private. The kids loved the "fort" on the deck and of course we all loved the beach. The beach was beautiful, with a sandbar about 20 feet out in the water to stand. The bonus of a lakeside property is that the beach is private. I am a big sunset person and I lucked out and was able to see a sunset every night of my stay. If you stay at Sandy Edge, open up your windows at night and listen to the waves lull you asleep. Jennifer was an excellent host, in contact before and during our stay. We were missing some paddles and life jackets and she came by with new ones! Some practical notes: there is no air conditioning- open up the windows and run the fans. We brought a couple extra fans to stay comfortable. The kitchen is new and beautiful, but bring your own BBQ tools, cheese grater and marshmallows roasting sticks for the firepit. There is no washer or dryer on site. We did our big grocery shopping in Goderich at Walmart and used Bayfield Foodland for a few essentials. It is nice to be situated between both towns. Bayfield berry farm was fun to explore.

Rustic Gem

We had an amazing time at Sandy Edge. The cottage is the perfect balance of rustic and equipped, and the beach is amazing. Bring water shoes to get past the ~20 feet of rock and play in the waves on the huge sandbar. Our kids are 5 and 7 and had a great time. We enjoyed the kayak and paddle boards, you may want to bring your own life jackets are sizes at the cottage are limited. We enjoyed bonfires on the beach, playing in the waves, and exploring charming Bayfield, only a 5 minute drive away. Would definitely rent again.

Beautiful week at a beautiful property

Our group had a wonderful stay at Sandy Edge Retreat. The cottage is very spacious and the owners are doing a great job with renovations and upgrades. With 7 bedrooms and two living areas on the main level, there is a lot of space to be together and apart when needed. Stepping into the backyard, you are greeted with amazing views of Lake Huron. From here you can continue down the beautiful staircase that opens up onto a massive private beach with panoramic views. Some days it feels as if you are in Mexico and not Ontario! Communication with the owner was very easy and we will definitely rent this cottage again.

Best beach and sunsets in Ontario

When I was speaking with the property manager she made it quite clear this property was a liike an old school cottage. The outdoor space makes up for iit. The sandy beach the waves the turquoise water the blazing sun and out of this world sunsets is better than anywhere in Ontario. We felt like we were in the tropics, minus the palm trees! Wouldn't hesitate to rent here again. Thanks for the memories!!!!
