We have often enjoyed family reunions with our own family (4 generations) at Castle in the Air so we understand the benefit of having beach access across the private street which eliminates long walks down the street to reach the beach. We find that driving into the 4 wheel drive area is a great way to escape from the stresses of life, especially when we are fortunate enough to find the famous wild horses of Corolla grazing peacefully on beach grass or cavorting on the dunes. Although uncommon, this is the one beach (other than Florida) where we have found the relatively rare, large Conch shells. We designed the house with 4 Master Bedrooms for four families plus two more bedrooms and Rec Room for children to accommodate large family gatherings like yours. Also, thank you for the comments on responsiveness; the satisfaction of our guests is very important to me. We hope you will visit again next year.

Thank you for your compliments, and we are thrilled that Castle in the Air accommodated your extended family so well. We chose the lot on which we built Castle in the Air because other lots on the street require guests to walk a block or more to reach the beach access which is right across the street from Castle in the Air. We designed the house with 4 Master Bedrooms for four families plus two bedrooms and two sleep sofas for children to accommodate large family groups like yours. Vehicles are permitted on the Corolla beaches only during the off-season. Since you visited around Memorial Day, the beach had not yet been closed to traffic for the summer. If you return next year, schedule your visit a week or two later so you will not see that traffic. As the pictures on our listing indicate, there are many activities in the area from paddleboarding, paragliding and ATV or Jeep trips to view the famous wild horses of Corolla to miniature golf, go-kart racing and rope adventure courses. In addition, there are many educational opportunities such as the historic Corolla lighthouse, Maritime Museum, Currituck Esuarine Preserve and Wright Brothers National Memorial. We can make recommendations if you return next year

Randy, Thank you for your feedback and suggestions for improvements. Prior to your arrival we advised you that most pools on the Outer Banks close at the end of September because pool heaters can only raise the water temperature about 20 degrees above the average nightly temperature of 55 degrees. You still requested that we heat the pool for your group, and our pool maintenance company advised us that the pool heater was working properly. We will be addressing your other suggestions in the offseason. Please check back on our future reviews to confirm that we acted upon all of your suggestions.

Dianna, Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. We work hard to maintain the property during every off-season, and we will be addressing each of the suggestions you have made. We have the carpets cleaned during each off-season, but their condition at the end of the season when you stayed at the house depends greatly upon the manner in which previous guests cared for the house. We have addressed the issue of nails in the decking, sanded the decks and re-stained them to address your concerns. We have also installed new high-end, Maytag front loading washer and dryer so that future guests should not experience any issues. We are sorry that your experience was not what you expected, but we hope that you will return to see that we have taken all of your suggestions seriously.
