Annual Family Reunion of 22 of us. All couples & singles had their own room/ bathroom as we rented entire place (14 rooms), which was GREAT - for so many years, we packed into cabins, sharing beds, bathrooms so this was very nice. Huge, very clean pool was used ALL DAY. Camp kitchen/community room could use a bit of work but we managed easily to feed our crew. Entire place is definitely rustic and some features are outdated, but we had a fabulous time.

Great communication, Great accommodation, Phenomenal stay!

I booked this for 40 people for a team retreat and Lisa was phenomenal. Upon arrival Lisa checked us in, showed us the property, and made sure we knew where everything was and were comfortable. I look forward to booking this location for our next retreat!

Family NYE

Wick the property manager was very nice and responsive to our needs. Plenty of space for family activities. Our room was great, however some of the other rooms smelled like smoke and the kitchen oven had leftover food and dishes.

Family Vacation

Our group of 37, ranging from 1 month to 75 years old, were able to enjoy this rustic setting. We loved the private pool and the community room where we could all fit to share our meals. There were rooms enough for all our families. Lisa was quick to respond to our questions or needs.

Girls weekend

We had an amazing time!!! The property and pool were wonderful and Lisa was around to help with anything and everything we needed. She even took some of our group through the haunted house which was truly a hit!!! Thank you for such a wonderful weekend!

Cowboy Creek Lodge

Our family loved it here. It was rustic, fun and had everything we needed. The property manager Lisa was the best. She showed us around the grounds and gave us some of the history and she was so good to us. Such a fun place for us to gather. We loved the common room and that we had the place to ourselves. Clean rooms, lots of places to sleep, super cool grounds to walk through and a really nice pool. Highly recommend.

Adequate

It is rustic, for sure. Nothing fancy, but our needs were met. We were happy to have a private room for each couple or family unit. That was a main reason to choose Cowboy Creek Lodge. We were happy to have the community room, kitchen, and grills exclusively for our family gathering weekend. Bring your own tableware. Wick, the on-site caretaker was fantastic, friendly, always ready to be of assistance, and very helpful.

Family reunion #14

The property is very unique. We loved having individual rooms. The pool and outdoor space was convenient and very enjoyable. We have an older family member with walking issues and we were able to navigate fairly well. The kitchen space is inadequate. The common space great for all of us. It could use some updating.

Communication was really good with the owner! She answered questions quickly and allowed us access to the property to eat lunch before the rooms were ready. For the space however, our expectations weren't proportionate to the pictures provided. It was fine for what we needed.

Absolutely perfect spot for a family reunion!!

Ignore the few bad reviews, this place was perfect for our family reunion!! Each of the rooms were great and with all the indoor and outdoor spaces to gather and hang out it was perfect for exactly what we wanted, tons of family time! We had a large range of ages and everyone loved the pool, fire pits, common room, etc! It was perfect with some connecting rooms, some had different arrangements in bed sizes/types so it worked out great with all the families. With the unpredictable weather the common room was great for the rainy times but the outdoor stuff was wonderful for everyone to have plenty of space for hanging out, yard games, hanging out by the fire pits at night, etc. Definitely recommend this for a family reunion or anytime you have a large group and want a lot of space, it was so great having the entire property to ourselves!

definitely an experience !!!

the property definitely needs updated in several areas. a lot of it is unusable (pavilion, amphitheater, chapel other buildings) there has to also be a way to keep outside visitors from accessing the property when it is being rented out. several times we had to go address this situation and people weren’t always happy about it. there should not be the worry of additional people on the property if we are paying to rent it out. that is unsettling as they could walk into any of the areas we are using. the water has an iron smell to it and many of the showers were cold water only in the bedroom area. overall it was a fun experience but it really needs updated and freshened up for sure !!!!!

Cowboy Creek Lodge

Very rustic. Nothing like the pictures posted. Outside area not well maintained most areas in the rear of facility, pool area and play area overgrown with high weeds. No hot tub as advertised. Some rooms were ok, most needed a lot of work paint especially on ceilings that were patched. Mold on several of the shower curtains no soap dispenser were in shower areas as pictured. Bugs in every room, Dust and spider webs under beds that had frames. Some rooms had air conditioners that worked 3 rooms had temporary a/c units that were noisy. Community room had 1 refrigerator that was dirty with leftover food when we checked in. Wifi was challenging at best service in and out hourly. Trapped 3 to 4 mice every day in kitchen and community room. We used lots of lysol spray and wipes everyday. A lot of unknown visitors just walked into community area while we occupied this facility. Also people stopping in to to purchase fire wood . No real main office to direct unknown/unwanted visitors too. Area was nice, family made the best out of a disappointing facility as compared to photos posted on VRBO.

No Frills Rustic Motel

We stayed a long weekend at the Cowboy Creek Lodge for a family reunion. We were 20 adults, and 4 children (12, 11, 8, 6, 4) and we all fit comfortably in the lodge with one room to spare. Pros: pool, fire pit, spacious community room (needs updating though and only one window ac so it was a bit stuffy in there), AC in each room, plenty of acres to walk around and view the creepy/gruesome Halloween decorations throughout the property (NOT for kids' eyes, we kept them from seeing the more horrific displays further down the property), great location (recommend Wampler's Lake in Hayes State Park), prompt and consistent communication with caretaker, Lisa and easy check-in. Cons: This property is truly RUSTIC. Be warned that it is not pristine or spotless, the whole place needs a deep clean and serious updating including a few of the mattresses and bed linens (especially the rooms with carpet....pretty gross). Listing states there are only pots/pans so we brought all of our own utensils, plates, bowls, etc. but upon arriving we discovered tons of everything needed to make meals (except knives and forks). We advise asking for a more thorough description of kitchen supplies if you plan on doing a lot of cooking. Minimal AC in the community room with one working fan but the stand was broken. As mentioned, we think the entire place needs some serious updating and a deep clean otherwise it has great potential!

Hidden Gem

We held a family reunion here for about 40 people. It was big enough for everyone to have privacy when needed. We spent most of our time in the community room and pool. there was so much to do at the property, we never left it. Next time, we'll have to stay longer and explore the area!! We had some minor issues, but the property manager address them promptly. Definitely would come back and do more exploring!!

Adult Weekend

Great Family Location

We all (28 of us) enjoyed our stay. The large gather spaces and pool were fantastic. It is really a unique property with a lot of history. Another review I read before visiting stated that if you are in a camping mindset, the place is fantastic. I would concur with that description. My family wanted to rebook for next year as we were departing.

Family Reunion

The property worked well for our family reunion of 68 people for a week although some of the families had to stay off sight. the pavilion is very large and gives a great space to get out of the rain or sun. The best part of the site was the pool. The kids swam everyday. It would be nice if the pool was heated a bit as it was very cold getting in. Some of the things that could be better are another air conditioner in the meeting room as it gets very, very hot during the day. Screen doors on the meeting room would also help so you could open the doors to get a breeze at night without all the bugs coming inside. The playground needs a major update as most of the play structures are metal and very old. A highlight was Lisa, the manager, who is always onsite (lives next door) and is wonderful. A text to her and she was there to help. Final hint: make sure to bring bug spray and citronella candles as it is in the woods and the bugs are bad.

Great time with a group of friends

Cowboy Creek is not The Ritz, but it is a huge, clean, and totally unique place to stay with a big group. The common area was perfect for making and feeding meals for our group of 35 people. The whole property is very private and fun to wander. You will definitely not stay in another place like this - an abandoned fake western town. It's great fun! Shoutout to Lisa who was very accommodating and helpful whenever we needed anything.

Awesome Spot for a Bachelor Party or Reunion

What a great experience! I had a group of about 13 guys for a bachelor party. The place is MUCH bigger than the photos suggest. We each had our own room and could all easily fit in the giant bar/community room. We could listen to music, enjoy a campfire, and grill outdoors on the property. There is no noise curfew and plenty of space for any get together. Lisa took great care of us the entire time. She is a rock star! There were a few issues and she handled them quickly and professionally. She even brought us about 2 dozen eggs from the chickens in the petting zoo for breakfast! The only missing star for "cleanliness" was because the summer has just started and they had a few bugs to clean up when we got there. There was also a bit of leftover food in the fridge and dishes but Lisa cleaned them up quickly after we arrived. In summary, I'd give this place and management a 10 out of 10.... would love to stay again,

*Friendcation* Great Experience

We had a wonderful stay at Cowboy Creek Lodge. We had 18 adults and 12 children. There was more than enough room for everyone. The grounds are vast and can be roamed at all hours. Clean pool, clean rooms, tons of space. Will be returning for another large group gathering

Family reunion

The community room was wonderful for us to gather serve meals and prepare meals and play games and cards together no matter the weather. Being able to escape to our own rooms when we needed space was very comfortable. The rooms were very clean. The pool and the playground was the favorites.

Great spot for family reunion

Our large family rented the entire facility for a much anticipated reunion. Since we had family coming from everywhere, it was conveniently accessible from the freeway and airport. The rooms are quaint and rustic. The grounds were great and the pool was a real plus. It’s kitschy and fun and the hosts were very helpful and patient.
