Big house for big family. This house would be great if the floors were completely redone. The carpet was awful.

Spacious and comfortable. As described except the Vrbo listing implies that there is lake access across the street, although lovely spots close by. We had everything we could have possibly needed and had a lovely time! Very llarge deck, perfect for dining and games. The beds and pillows were really comfy too. Would highly recommend.

Our stay could easily have been 5-star but there were some minor issues. However the host (Meghan) was extremely responsive and quick to address our concerns. Loved the space but BEWARE if you have mobility issues… there are 50-some steps to climb to enter the main living area. It’s quite a hike. It is very serene and the noise level is low. Enjoyed sitting on the deck and watching the lake through the pine trees.

Rustic donner lake cabin

Quaint, spacious cabin at donner lake. We enjoyed our stay. Property can get hot in the summer, could use another window screen or screen door.

Lovely View

The property itself is rustic and beautiful. Digital communication prior was on time and detailed but we did not get a response from a property manager until after we checked out. Overall a good stay.

Excellent property with steps

Our family of 6 had a very comfortable stay at this large home. At 81 years old, I found the 61 steps to the main level to be a doable task.

Lake Donner House

Great accommodations for family. Kitchen, dining area (large table), bedrooms, beds & bathrooms were great. Outside decks were wonderful places to sit and talk. Downsides are number of steps, very difficult parking & initial musty smell. May book again.

Beautiful views

The kitchen was great! Lots of silverware, pots, pans, etc. Clean and spacious kitchen. There are a LOT of stairs at this property, I would not want to check in for the first time in the dark.

Ideally stay for our family

We recently had a wonderful vacation at Donner Lake. The house is well furnitured, clean and very nice inside . it's perfect for a large crowd and not too far away from everything . Our family is very active so the stairs were not a problem for us but , I could see if others were less fit or active it would be a problem. Overall a perfect week for us.

Good family vacation!

Our family had a wonderful time at Donner. House was great. Beds were very comfortable which is important to us. Deck was nice to hang out on and the view was gorgeous. Property company was easy to communicate with and helpful. Would have given it 5 stars but parking was not ideal. Even though it’s a 3 car garage anything over a small suv does not fit and there is no street parking. Would definitely come back.

From the owner: "We are glad you enjoyed your time at our cabin. We should have been more clear on the parking situation. We can’t park across the street, but we frequently have a lot of family at the cabin and have gotten creative with the parking. You are able to park on the right in the area just before the garage/stairs. If you’ve got smaller cars they can fit in the three-car garage. Then we put cars behind those too".

Great Location & View

We loved the location of this property enjoyed the views of the lake and Castle peak. The listing is accurate that the cabin is older. The carpet is very thick and holds a lot of dust. Bathrooms are updated nicely. There are a lot of stairs! I didn’t mind it but could see how it could be a problem for someone older.

Get your steps workout here!!

I think we counted 90 steps from the street level to the third floor. Thank goodness we are all in pretty good shape. It also helps to have a couple of very strong men to help carry up coolers, suitcases, etc.. kitchen was very well stocked, plenty of bath towels.

Nice place Lots of steps inside and outside!

Overall, very nice place. Listing says "steps required to access property" -- true, but a bit understated. There is one steep flight up from the street, then a less steep flight to to lower level of the house. Once inside another steep flight to the living area, then another steep flight to bedrooms 4 and 5.

Annual Donner visit

Rustic is a fair description but not a problem. The house served our needs well. Our favorite part was the large dining room. We could all enjoy meals together, always essential on our family gatherings. The oven door didn't close properly but we managed to prop it closed to use it. Property manager immediately responded to our concerns. It was a hot week so she purchased and delivered fans for each bedroom. The downstairs den was a great retreat for kids. There are many stairs to the house and bedrooms, just be prepared to get your exercise. Overall a very satisfying stay.

Frustrating

The property itself was average. Outside, on the deck, was filthy. Communication with Evolve was poor, and it was absolutely terrible with the property manager/owner. We are still trying to get communication from the property Manager/owner because we left an item at the house and we want to retrieve it. Very frustrating. We worry that we won’t be able to get this item back and it was valuable to our grandson.

The property manager has already searched for it but was unable to locate it. However, the homeowner will have them check again after the current guests depart and will personally look for the item during their next visit over Labor Day.-We are committed to maintaining a high level of customer service and apologize if our communication did not meet your expectations.-Although we do our best to keep the outdoor area clean, if there are a few days between guest check-out and the next check-in, it is certainly possible for Mother Nature to have an effect on the outdoor area once our cleaning crew has left.We do all we can to make the best possible stay, and we look forward to this property hosting many satisfied guests.

Too many stairs

When we arrived at the house, we couldn't get in. The lockbox code they mailed to me was wrong. Everyone in our party tried it but to no avail. Finally, after an hour someone tried 0000 and it worked. In the house, the living room carpet was covered with lint, and outside Debree and the freezer had melted ice cream all over the bottom. The bed sheets were clean, but the decorative pillow covers had obviously been slept on and not washed previously. Outside, there was garbage all over the yard and the garbage can in the garage was overflowing. It did not say in the advertisement that there were several flights of stairs. We went in expecting just one flight and found 30 steps up to the house itself, then two flights to the main floor and another flight to two of the bedrooms. Since our party consisted of eight elderly people, five of whom are handicapped, this was extremely inconvenient, almost impossible. Overall, I was very disappointed.

We followed up with the homeowner after reading your feedback, and they wanted to share the following: "Thank you for the feedback, and bear with us while we make adjustments to our newly listed cabin. We do learn a lot from the reviews. -We're very sorry to hear you had trouble with the lockbox code. This has been updated on all our pre-stay emails so going forward this should not be a recurring problem. We do have a property manager who should be called with any issues. She is very responsive! -We will update our house description to make people more aware that there are a couple of flights of stairs to get up to the cabin. This is the case with many cabins due to mountainous elevation changes and to take advantage of the views of Donner Lake. -We do have garbage pickup regularly on Mondays although we are in the mountains and sometimes wildlife tries to access garbage. -There are occasional power outages which could be the reason for the spilled ice cream in the freezer. Again sorry for any inconvenience during your stay. We hope you otherwise enjoyed your stay and could enjoy the deck, view, surrounding nature, and many activities that Donner Lake and Truckee have to offer."
