About the host
Hosted by Malcolm Lambert
Malcolm and Aileen are delighted to welcome you to Bolotho Barns, where they live next door with their two young daughters. The slate-tiled and local stone barns were converted from 19th century stables and farm buildings in 2010, and opened to guests shortly after that. They have been lucky enough to move here from London for work locally, and to take over running this successful business, maintaining 5-star standards throughout. They are on hand for useful local tips about where to eat, dog-friendly pubs, little-known beaches and walks, as well as the many activities within easy reach of this lovely part of Cornwall.
Why they chose this property
Bolotho Barns are charming and stylish havens for couples, tucked away down a farm lane in the idyllic Cornish countryside. The two beautifully appointed converted stone barns are arranged around a courtyard, each with a private patio to lap up the sun. Holiday bliss - whether you are enjoying a glass of wine on the patio or snuggling up by the wood burner. How peaceful to wake up to just the sound of the birds singing. As you arrive in the courtyard you begin to relax.
What makes this property unique
Bolotho Barns are located in a rural setting near to the hamlet of Killiow and just a ten minute drive from the attractive county capital of Truro with its historic streets, markets, cathedral and cultural attractions. Guests will love the rolling landscape of fields, woodlands and streams of this special place. From here you are only 15-20 minutes drive from the enchanting creeks and estuaries of the south coast and the rugged coastline and surfing beaches of the north Cornish coast. The National Trust property, Trelissick, is just a 5 minute drive away, and there are several lovely pubs that do good food within a short drive from Bolotho Barns. Access to the Bissoe cycle trail is very nearby, which runs 'coast to coast' from Portreath to Devoran.
It's an amazingly tranquil spot for a relaxing hideaway holiday, but also the ideal base for exploring Cornwall more widely. For interesting days out, you can visit places to the north like the Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan, or Tintagel, and to the west like St Ives or St Michael's Mount all within an hour's drive. In Falmouth, just twenty minutes away, there is a historic castle, maritime museum and the bustling harbour to discover. The nearby King Harry Car-Ferry takes you across to the beautiful Roseland Peninsula, home to quiet beaches and St Mawes harbour village. Or follow a literary trail with the Cornwall of Rosamunde Pilcher from Lamorna to Padstow, or Daphne Du Maurier's Cornwall in Fowey and the Helford River. All within easy reach of Bolotho.
Advice and recommendations can be given on a variety of local activities and restaurants. Bolotho Barns are particularly well located for a range of water sports on both coasts, bike trails with bike hire and beautiful walks.
