About the host
Hosted by Host
Carrington House is situated in the picturesque village of Snettisham, on the west coast of Norfolk.
The house was built in 1735 and is one of the most prominent houses in the village.
Today Carrington House is a gateway to the North Norfolk Coast a short drive away, the magnificent Snettisham Bird sanctuary and the burgeoning restaurant and gastro pub scene, all in walking distance.
With a population of just over 2,500, Snettisham offers the perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life, while being just a few miles from the market town of King’s Lynn.
The town is perhaps most famous for the Snettisham Hoard – a number of discoveries of Iron Age precious metals, including nearly 180 gold torques, found in the area between 1948 and 1973. In 1985, the Snettisham Jeweller’s Hoard of Romano-British jewellery and raw materials were also found, which had been buried in a clay pot in AD 155. This suggests there has been a long tradition of gold and silver working in the area over hundreds of years.
Today, Snettisham offers something for everyone – easy access to the beautiful Heacham and Hunstanton Beaches, with nature reserves and animal sanctuaries also on the doorstep.
