Owned and operated by Manu Guy, Playa Poderosa opened its doors in 2021.
Hailing from Montreal, Canada, Manu first fell in love with Popoyo during a 2019 vacation. What was supposed to be a small side trip ended up an extended stay and the highlight of her solo travels around the world. A long-time snowboarder and wakesurfer, she picked up surfing and was instantly hooked.
After returning to Montreal, the town called to her. The clean food, the striking beaches, the worry-free way of life—it all felt like home. Within weeks of getting back to her routine, she sold every one of her possessions and told her employer she was moving to Nicaragua, permanently.
Months after relocating to Popoyo, Manu found a charming property for sale and immediately knew that it was her calling. No stranger to the hospitality industry, Manu has nearly a decade of restaurant work under her belt and a Masters in Business Strategy. In addition to managing Playa Poderosa, she operates her own website development and social media company that attends to small business owners like herself.
Today, you'll find Manu happily working the front desk and enjoying her sunshine-filled new career.
When you see her, say hi. She'd love to hear your story.
