Hello!
We live and play in the Black Hills and we hope that you enjoy your time at the Homestead aka Stella. Please reach out to us with any questions that you may have about things to do, places to go and where to find great food & beverages!
We enjoy hosting, aka showing off Stella and traveling whenever possible ourselves.

* We have on hand, for your use, lots of visitors maps and guides - help yourself to what's here.

Why they chose this property

We found this wonderful old 1904 homestead log house, that had sat empty for almost three decades... It needed a complete renovation. We're suckers for an old, interesting house and decided, why not? ;-)
We started renovating Stella in the fall of 2018 and spent four years+ doing so. A complete labor of love, and a little bit of crazy idealism! But we love her, the property is beautiful and has privacy, wonderful views - we hope that you enjoy the place as much as we do!

What makes this property unique

The homestead was originally settled and built by Isaac & Eva Jatko along with the help of Nels Juso and his sons. Isaac was a logger for the Homestake Mining Co, hence the old growth logs and the extraordinarily large home for the time as he cut all of the trees needed. Nels Juso, a neighboring Finn, and his then young sons, helped with the building of this beautiful home. The Juso Bros. went on to become prolific log builders, building almost every log structure of the time including the Grandstands at the Days of 76 rodeo grounds in Deadwood and Ranch A near Beulah WY for Walter Annenberg. Take note of the double-dovetailed joints of the house... Stella is an amazing, historic structure and we hope that you enjoy staying here!
