About this property

Basque house with picturesque views of the Pyrenees

Bonjour! We are Leona and Jan.
After more than 10 years of regular holidays in the region, last year we fulfilled our dream of having our own house on the Atlantic coast. Since we ourselves can not always be here, we would like to share this dream with you!

Only 6km from the sea, quietly in the countryside and surrounded by sheep and grazing horses, the house offers a picturesque view of the Pyrenees.

We have already put 12 months of loving renovation work into our little house and we still have a lot of plans - many ideas and dreams about how we can make this wonderful patch of earth even more beautiful.
Since Jan is a furniture and interior designer and also a passionate craftsman, we do everything ourselves, from insulating ceilings, laying on floorboards or pouring screed, to the self-tiled washbasin.
Own designs, beautiful materials and loving details are very important to us and of course it takes time. Here and there are therefore some unfinished projects such as unevenly painted shutters. Unfortunately we could not finish the oak sliding doors for the two upper rooms during our last stay. (The necessary privacy is provided by beautiful, heavy linen curtains. Regardless, both bedrooms are out of the main ways.)

For us, our Maison Basque is much more than a holiday home - we spend several months a year here - for us it is the dream come true of life in the immediate vicinity of the sea.

We will not be there during your stay, but are always available by phone or email. In addition, two close friends are at your disposal to assist you with check-in and check-out and to answer all your questions. Our team speaks French, English, Spanish and German.

So you have our beautiful house so completely for you alone and access to all rooms. Only a few drawers are locked - this as well as a small closet, which is occupied with our clothes and the storeroom on the upper floor are private.

Detailed description of the living room and the outdoor area:
The house has an open floor plan in which the large dining room and cozy fireplace corner connect to the small open TV lounge on the first floor via a gallery, with all these areas opening onto the garden via large glass doors and windows.
On the ground floor is a bedroom with a 1.40m wide double bed and next to it a bathroom with bathtub.
The kitchen also has direct garden access, is cool in the north of the house and can be reached via the dining room, whose large table invites you to come together.

Two further bedrooms and a second bathroom with bathtub are accessible from the upper floor gallery, which also has access to the balcony. Here each morning enchants us the great view of the mountain "La Rhune", which shows a little different every day and at any time.
One of the two north-facing bedrooms has a 1.60m wide double bed, the other is our variable room. Here the bed can either be used as a double bed (1,60m) or divided into two single beds (0,80m).

Wonderful linen or cotton sheets in beautiful colors await you in all bedrooms. In the bathrooms we provide French soaps and shower gels for you.

To the east, the house opens to the large veranda, which invites you to enjoy the morning sun during breakfast or, if the heat is too high during the day, to relax in the shade.
The large south-facing terrace with its picturesque view captures the French Atlantic sun from morning to late at night, with both the beautiful plane tree and a large, mobile sunshade shading the sun loungers - if desired. In the evening there is a large, round garden table and a gas grill for the barbecue.

2000sqm, not visible from the outside garden, overgrown with various large and small trees, surround our house in the countryside. Here is also a place to retire with a deck chair and a good book. For example under the big palm!

We look forward to seeing you!
Yours, Leona & Jan

P.S. We look forward to personal contact with our guests.
